what bhp? what is the bhp figure quoted for the 998s? I think my 748r is something like 103? |
qouted at 136bhp |
ok, would a trick filter help that at all? |
136.... standard.... obviously a few more ponies with pipes and ECU D'you think you can handle that? :D |
But aren't Ducati now also quoting BHP figures at the crank rather than at the rear wheel (as the Jap Co's. do) so you may want to keep that in mind. That also explains why some of the power figures for this years models have suddenly been boosted? |
i very much dout it!!! would be interested to see a dyno comparing the two to see how different it is. don't suppose anyone has one? |

so realistically the figures quoted for older bikes against say an R1 or gixer were less and now they are upping them to be comparable? |
Well...thats the impression I'm under. I'm sure I read sometime ago that Ducati were a little fed up of the competition quoting crank figs whilst they were giving rear wheel figs...so they have decided to play the game as well? I could be wrong...but I'm sure I read that somewhere not too long ago. I know my 916SP came with a dyno chart from the factory, which was a true rear wheel figure...but that was 1995! |
Yup true... Also Ducati are now quoting dry weight also, no fluids, fuel, oil, brake/clutch fluid... and possibly even fork/shock oil. |
So...if that is the case...what are the 'real' power increases for this years models over last years?:puzzled: [Edited on 9-2-2005 by Harv748] |
I doubt much at all to be honest, I'd guess the R may have 3 Bhp tops |
None at all for the 749 range, but they're claiming about 3 or 4 bhp IIRC. |
And the historical horse power quoted by the japs was in a different format to ducati which obviously boosted their figures. The only true leveller is to put all bikes on the same machine at the same time ( literally) as air pressure, temp all affect the outcome. Even then some dyno companies can be a bit liberal with their figures............... I do still believe the figures produced by jhp though!:P |
so in what rev range would you notice the most differences on the two bikes? |
i woulg guess across the range from about 4k up. |
Lily, i went from a 748r on to a 998s! There is no comparison whatsoever on the performance of the two. The torque of the 998s is just so effortless, mind you watch the back wheel, has a habit of spinning and or spitting you off!! Get one, youll be saying ah, this is how i always thought the 748 should of gone!!:o |
You know what it's like, you've ridden it several times, and every time you've got that daft grin on your face! It just pulls and pulls from 3-4K all the way to the limit |

Errr No, can't afford to have a dyno in my garage at the moment.:P Being slightly less cheeky Stockport Motorcycle Centre have a dyno, i've run my various heaps on it for comparison purposes, but the R hasn't been on yet. Mind you the 998S is quoted as 1bhp more than the 996R depending which part of the Italian propoganda you believe. |

Eh? You the 3rd Earl of Stockport? With your reputation? SUrely not..... |
well, webby's 996R was knocking out 126 (I think, may have been 128) last year - how does that compare to factory figure?? |
Just come back from another dyno session today, seeing 133-135 rwhp on a 1999 996 SPS:D:D:D |
I think Heners got 130+ at the rear wheel of his FE last year, that was with pipes and a new ECU. It would be interesting to see how this could be improves with a power commander as well as a set of the new style under tank filters from JHP.......................any comments! |
but henners has 130 grunty, easy to use v twin horsepower:) |
