i think you need to have your picture hosted on a website first before you can use it as a avatar

cant quite remember how i did mine, think i just followed the instructions in the control panel

Help with Avatars

Log on to the Message Board
Go to Control Panel
Click on Edit Profile
Scroll down to the "Avatar URL:" section (see screenshot)
Delete whatever is in the upper box (e.g. "avatars/Loz.jpg)
Enter the URL of suitable picture in the upper box or click on the Browse button
If you Browsed, select the file that you will use for your avatar (remember, it cannot be bigger than 155 x 155 pixels)
Click on the Edit Profile button
Sorted.

You need to have a small picture saved on your computer (or know the URL of one on the web). The picture has to be small (155x155 pixels or less, maybe 6Kb or less in filesize). If you have a pic you like and cannot resize it, email someone on the board and ask them to do it for you!

You're not trying to upload a BMP file again are you mark?

They gotta be a JPG file.

All my pics are jpg size ??:puzzled:

Road Runner 11-Feb-2005 20:24

It Now says the picture is to big so how do I make it smaller
:puzzled:

Loz 11-Feb-2005 20:28

I'd use Paint Shop Pro to shrink the size. Do you have PSP or similar Image editing software?

Hello

Road Runner.

When you size the picture I maybe wrong but there is a max size the Avatar must be. If you are on MSN messenger send in over and I will have a look for you.

Mark - email me the pic, and when you have time - pop round & I can help to show you how to re-size it mate. We use photosuite at home, cos Al finds it easy to use.

I dont have webspace tho, so rely on a dear friend:P to host it for me.

C:)

RR, simplest is to use Microsoft Photo Editor which should be an OE fitting on your computer.

Open the image, from the Image menu go to Resize
Then set the size so the biggest of the width/height values is 155 pixels.
save, close, then upload it as previously instructed.

CK... just imagine what that 'dear friend' could do to your avatar if bored one evening!

TopiToo 11-Feb-2005 21:42

Hello

Road Runner another quick way of doing all this is download my Avatar if you are happy with the size (right click on mouse-save image to desktop) and open your image and copy it and paste into my image for size then size your image to fit mine.

Bobs your uncle . .

RR - do what NBs996 said! I keep forgetting about Photo Editor :)
