Nigeria\'s first signed up DSC Member and Jerez

Hi Guys and Girlies

Well, still being in a rather shellshocked state after touching down at 0545 on Tuesday, thought Id tell you that I arrived.
I arrived
I saw
I thought, oh hecky thump, what a superb place
I wondered before about getting a bike down here for "messing about on" By the time my driver had taken me from the airport to the villa, I had given up all chance and thoughts of that, but I do beleive there is a small percentage of (mad, mad, mad) expats with 750 riceburners, and someones told me there's a Duke as well. Best roads only have 1 foot deep potholes, so not so bad then I thought.

Well its end of day 4 and Im counting till the other six hundred and ninety six days have passed and I can return to some sanity, mind you, with you lot, thats probably too much to ask.

Temperature is constant 30 - 32, humidity not too bad, only 98%, but as you'd expect already found the bars.
Beer is good and really cold, not too expensive, and Im off in 10 mins back to the villa for a jolly old G+T
Time calls so gotta go
CYA all soon

I'm glad none of you are with me now, it would be a shame to see a grown man cry.

It's just finished snowing outside my window here at work :(

I miss that sensation of real heat, and humidity, makes me want to go for a run.

Fordie 22-Feb-2005 18:05

Hi Paul, Thanks to modern man and the internet at least your'e only at the other end of a puter, wer'e still here, the weather is typically British for this time of year, cold, wet and windy but it still rideable, unless you live in Yorkshire and the East Coast who are copping a packet of the White flaky stuff as we speak. Have fun, be safe and keep the Flag flying .Regards 4D

Redruth 22-Feb-2005 23:29

Morty. Yer'll be pleased to know I'm carrying on the blue tradition of drinking red wine in the garden shed (in my case posh summerhouse with 2 internet connections but principle is the same) :D:D:D

Things are just tickin' over here as usual. Didn't see any detailed info from you about Jerez. How was it for you?

Give us some fabulously graphic stories about life out there (I'm looking to crib some for my 3rd novel) :D:D:D

lynn 24-Feb-2005 17:51

Hi Paul, Dont know where Fordie is but it's not rideable here in deepest Derbyshire. Sure you're not missing this bit of blighty.
The wonderful Nelly has at last got Jasper running superbly (it was me valves you know!! Just a bit out!) Been out on him once since then and Paul also took him for a spin and filled up the tank for me. So he's sat in the garage facing the door ready to get out. When that will be dont know, just been to the stables where I keep my horse and my jeep could'nt get up the drive! Schools were closed here too today.
Keep Warm and see you soon. X

Old Yella 27-Feb-2005 09:01

Hi Mort
Nice to see you are settling in to the 30+ degree weather.
Were settling in to the minus something type today.
Just to make you happy it got down to -3 last night and is supposed to go lower tonight.
Gunna start a book to see how long it takes for you to buy a bike or at least borrow one.
DOnt suppose there are any tracks out there?????????
I hope you enjoy your time there and hope to see you soon mate.
Bestest
Geoff

paulmort 28-Feb-2005 18:08

Deej
Just here for the fun, and coz I lurve work................and if you beleive that, then you'll beleive anything
Why am I here? Its for the challenge, now in charge of a department of over 300 peeps, many facets of the telecomms industry all thown into one as well.
More importantly I was offered an obscene amount of dosh, so thats the reason, and its tax freeeteehee as well
But I do miss Blooo very much, but I nkow Nelly has her tucked up nice and warm in bed, so she's in good hands, ...........Nelly,,,, stop poking at those zorsts..............
Jeff ya likkle bu^^er, howzit going mate, glad you're snug and warm !!??!!
I am seriously thinking bout a 250 single, suck, squeeze, bang, blow thumper, maybe small KTM with ultralong fork travel for a bit of local road bashing at the weekend when its a little saner !! on the roads. A
Anyone got any ideas of a 250 - 400 road/off road beastie that can either be imported, or broken into small pieces and carried in suitcases/handluggage (so I dont have to pay a whopping 50% import duty)
Seriously, I am missing riding more than I miss se><.,,,,, No Mort, you aint gone senile yet, have you, No, just my alter ego having a go at me, like Jool's rodent but more vociferous. ,,, ok back on track, I miss riding so much that it will be like an org^^m at the first roundabout, srri peeps, couldnt keep away from the subject
Look out for further updates

Old Yella 01-Mar-2005 14:05

Enjoy mate, it wont be long before your back for a visit will it?

ali 01-Mar-2005 14:51

Good to hear you're keeping well Meester Mort. :D

Sounds like you're missing Blooduke though, better get back for a TD sharpish! I've heard that if you go more than 3 months without thrashing the pants off a duke you come out in a nasty rash and weeping sores. :o Besides, if I don't get to see you mono-ing Bloo down the start-finish straight at Silverstone then I'm sending the heavies round to 're-distribute' her to someone that will!

On the thumper front I'd suggest anything that they have dealers for over there would be best. I've spent months (literally) waiting for parts to clear customs for my landy, and it's worse than not having a car/bike in the first place.

On the importing front I'd recommend bribery. It'll never be a problem getting it back into the UK, so just make sure you can get it in to Nigeria in the first place. As you say, get the bike sent over without any wheels and passed through as 'spares' and then get the wheels sent over. Not sure how registering it for the road would work, but where there's a will...etc. ;)

Good luck and let us know when you're back in blighty.

Cheers,

ali
