I was born in 1975 .... :frog:

Well my bike ownership started in 1994:

Suzuki Across (GSX-250 - the one with the helmet compartment in place of the tank and the fuel tank ran under the seat, with the filler above the brake light)

BSA C12

1981 Z1000

ZZR-600

VTR 1000

996 (Current)

Monster 620 (Current)

Rushjob 11-Feb-2005 23:04

Right then...... a potted history of 25 years of bikes wot I have had.......
Honda CB125T - Bought brand new in 1980 16.5 bhp & 16000 rpm ( revved to Nippon Seiki at the bottom ofthe clocks! )
Passed my test on that in 1981 and quickly bought...
Honda CB400/4 F2 - Lovely bike - used to draw circles on the floor with the exhaust collector when you felt like it......
Triumph Bonneville T140V US spec - loved this bike till some low life nicked it...
Anyhow, I then bought a Honda CB650Z which bored me witless for 3 months so that led to
Benelli 654 Sport...what a bike! Had great fun upsetting GPZ550 Unitrack riderswho thought they were the dogs danglies till my little beastie went under them on the Stoke ring road roundabouts.
I kept this one for years, only passing it on in 1993. It had a stable mate from 1984 in the shape of a
Moto Guzzi 850 T3 Cali...this old girl built in 1977 did starship mileage over the next 14 years - although the speedo cables broke with regularity it recorded over 120,000 miles in my hands....no car you see!
Ah well, the times were a-changing & my better half asked me if I wanted a new(ish) bike....
Ducati 900ssie...9 months old when I bought it...superb bike but neck injury from work meant that the forward riding position gave me too much pain so she went to be replaced by a...
Ducati ST2 which suprised many a 748 / 916 rider!
Kept that one for 3 years but a mate mentioned he'd seen an ST4S up for sale for a good price so I bought my current ride as a 40th birthday pressie to meself.
Andy

AK 11-Feb-2005 23:09

Me:
1978 - 79 Suzuki AP50 - sold
1979 - 80 Honda CB125J - seized twice
1980 (one month) Honda Superdeam 250 - crashed & totalled
1980 - 1987 Suzuki 750 & at same time had GS550 - sold both

1987 - 1998 Lay off due to 'off' keeping me in hospital for 7 months & then being on own with small child/short of dosh/too much work/no time

Then
Sept 98 - Mar 02: Kwak Zephyr 550 -sold
Mar 02 - Jan 04:Monster 750ie - traded up
Jan 04 - present: Monster 1000sie

am now banned from 'shopping' in Ducati shops:lol:

Alan says it will take all night to list what he had had, as he is quite old:lol: and has had a number of bikes, so the post would be quite long! First bike was as a 14yr old in late 1970:o
Suffice it to say: he only had his first Ducati in 2003 - when he brought the bits for the 'project'.
This was mainly done because he liked the people who he met on the Ducati's via both clubs - and had done Kwaks 'to death' as projects & dragsters.

Great fun..... I see some "classics" in there!

Love the kwaks Mav, and look how many of us started with a humbe 50cc ( have you ever seen the minute size of a 50cc piston!) I think my own quest for speed eminates from those years, thrashing the nut$ off my ss50 trying in vain to keep up with the fissies. Just never grew up I s'pose:D

upto the age of 16, several "field bikes" C50's, C70's, C90's, AP50, CB250G5, XL125 etc.etc.

Then at 16 MT50. Tuned to the hilt, 60-65mph everywhere and 18000 miles.
17 brought in the RD125LC.............tuned to the hilt 100mph+
19 saw me pass my test and by a 350LC.............tuned to the hilt. 130mph+ and a crank a month :o
There's a worrying tendancy developing there :devil::o:sing:

Then a forced break due to being pulverised in a car smash.

3 years went by. I had a brief spin on my mates RG500 whilst still on crutches though :D

Bought my first Ducati. and ex F2 500 Pantah racing machine. Converted that back to road trim(ish) and road her for 2 years+
Then bought a 750 Sport with 40mm Dellortos and cans on. What a sound!!
Then had a mind f**k and sold up. Only kept the helmet.....
Couldn't bear it after 4 months or so and bought a H0nda (I can say it) :frog: VFR400 NC30. Loads of fun.
Then a ZXR750J2.............one of the prettiest Jap IL4's ever imo.
Then the Ducati beckoned, i remortgaged the house and bout my 748BP which I still have.
Kind of a rolling test bed, and a bike I really never want to sell on. Should be "a bit special" this year if all goes to plan to

First bike BSA 175 bantam Hornchurch car adome all day every day petrol 50p a gallon
First road bike B Line fizz 74mph A127 rebuilding again this week lad
First off road bike CR125 Honda now that’s what I call a power band, or I thought it was till I got the
Maddest 2 stroke off road Yamaha air cooled YZ 400 C, still got the scares on me elbows form flipping that bas***d, then started to race it, O what fun.
Raced AMCA till the late 1980s

In 1989 I went back to road bikes with a GSXR 750K Vance and Hinds pipe, engine tuned by SST, dragons, mad Sunday now were talking, Track days steering dapper recommend from now on.

1993 Blade yoshi pipe, engine tuned SST, just gone supersonic. I loved that bike it would show
170mph on revit strait, and made a mockery of fox eyes and every thing else over the next few years

The first model R 1, I took to SST, and things just got out off hand now, I just can’t keep up with this bike, its just plain scary, 168 bhp on the RRT dyno, so I don’t need a new 1000 jap bike !

I have been very lucky on bikes but not so lucky racing windsurfers and ended up with my leg in plaster for the best part of Two years, Two smashed disks, a dislocated shoulder, crack ribs, broken ankles. 42Knots best recorded speed, was it worth it ? Foo**in right it was.

Anyway I packed all that dangerous stuff up and came back to bikes.
Doing it on a duke now and am really enjoying riding it so far, looking forward to a long warm summer meeting some of you lot,not getting nicked and having a blast on some of our best tracks.

New ground braking Model bikes are better because they are designed to capture markets, not just to maintain their market share. 916 996 998 ten years, fire blade ten years, R1 ten years? But to be honest any bike is fun even its because its so bad it makes you laugh. Rally Wisp

The bike now Honda 600 RR with a pipe and tune, sweet, sweet, sweet, handling fun, I was back at school in the girls bike sheds. If you haven’t ridden one of these bikes just treat your self to a test ride and tell me I am wrong. Lester Harrises road bike was the repsol one on his stand at ally pally, guess what he likes his to.

Got you all thinking now:sing:

Rocker is by far th ewinner so far.....

BTW I'm 47, with 20 bikes over 31 years, so a poor average by some standards.

What were your best bikes ( apart from your most recent of course) Mine was the The VFR750 fantastic bike, great build quality, plenty of performance, and looks....graet. My VF1000R was also a great ride, sound, speed, looks, only let down by an inadequate frame, how did they race these?

Not forgetting my first bike SS50 in red, thought I was so cool, flat out everywhere, max about 45mph, but it was like a grown up bike i.e. 4 stroke. All my mates had 2 strokes, which all self destructed in time. Love those days. :burn:
