Any Oulton experts out there?

Looking to do my first ever race at Oulton this year. To prepare, I am intending to do at least one trackday before hand. The race date is Sept 3.

Anyone fancy giving me "a tow" around the place?

Lily 16-Feb-2005 11:26

Felix

Come down on the 19th of March (Sat) there should be a few good boys around then that we could tag you on to :)

If not then do a no limits day as Lawsey and WJB were pretty quick round there and you get dsc discount :)

Felix 16-Feb-2005 11:32

No chance for March 19, Lily. I still haven't got an engine! Yeah, I figured a No Limits day would be the way to go. Although, anyone know if there are ACU test days at Oulton?

Weeksy, I thought you quit?! Damn, now I have to start worrying about lapping you again!!

Lily 16-Feb-2005 11:34

tues 7th June
tues 26th July

I'll be doing the pre-race TD so we'll be able to compare and see where we're up to.

.....Errrr I'm flattered.....

Felix, as Lily has said we're doing the 19th March (Sat) first one of the year, and first time I'll be riding the new bike, so if you want some slow laps while I get used to it, then come along.

As Lily has said though, best thing to do is get on with No Limits, and get one of them to show you round, I'm planning on doing a good few throughout the year there (I now have a wall planner.... different story ) most are run on eithera Tuesday or a Wednesday, but there are a few Saturday's also...

It's a fast flowing track, quite undulating, if you like Cadwell I think you'd like Oulton.

If you want any more info drop me a U2U and I'll try and do a lap round the place for you...

Felix 16-Feb-2005 11:41

I've actually done two trackdays at Oulton, so not a complete novice. However, racing there is another matter. The track is indeed a gem, as you say. The August 13 date looks good as I want it close to the race date. I'll get in touch with John.

Was Oulton included in that CD which had BSB lap video? Anyone have a copy?

JPM 16-Feb-2005 11:45

What race series are you racing in Felix?

I'm guessing my mate will probably be there also on his 998RS02, he'd be a great person to follow round and see where he makes up his time, he's down to 1:44's round the place now....

Felix 16-Feb-2005 11:52

JPM, see my signature;)

JPM 16-Feb-2005 12:02

Ah....ha.... says it all...

Have a look at their website then, have a look at the lap record holder for Oulton, think it was around Sept last year.

Lily 16-Feb-2005 12:58

the bike is stunning and he is pretty darn quick!!

he has a good dice with Pensavale (sp) who did a few BSB last year so he is up there on the pace :)

JPM 16-Feb-2005 12:58

You heard right...

He's got 3 engines now, he's just had a laptop of me so he can get all of the telemtry off the thing

I think 1/2 of Renegade's old stock is in his garage:o

Felix 16-Feb-2005 13:11

What's his website then?

JPM 16-Feb-2005 13:18

He's a property developer by day so his website is business related, although he does have a section about his racing etc from memory.

I think Oulton is on the Superbike Magazine video I have Felix.

Althought there's the BBC/Steve Parish footage here as recently posted by Ath748

Felix 16-Feb-2005 18:17

That's ace, Guy! Downloading it now! Can I borrow your DVD to copy?

JPM 16-Feb-2005 18:36

That's a stonking clip, but is a few years old as it still has knickerbrook in, and they're not using Hizzy's

Felix 16-Feb-2005 18:48

I timed it at roughly 1:33, but as you say that's without the chicane.

Gary Watts holds the Derby-Phoenix lap record recorded last September at 1:44:40. I'd be happy to get near 1:50. What do you think, Jon? The 750/twins fastest lap last year was 1:51:72.

Guido 17-Feb-2005 08:32

No problem borrowing the tape Felix

Sorry it's not a DVD but we aint that poosh it this neck of the woods....:lol:

BDG 17-Feb-2005 10:07

Felix,

I've also got an old Perf Bikes vid with track guides including Oulton if you want to borrow it.

If you can get down towards 1:50's you're on an absolute mission, a fastish time on a trackday would be sub 2 minutes, 1:55's or so and you're definitely on it, I think Gary won by a good 6 seconds, so if you can crack a 1:50 you should be top 5-10 easily

Felix 17-Feb-2005 11:25

Thanks for that, Jon. My last track day at Oulton back in 2003 I got to about 1:57 just before I crashed at Old Hall bend (I think it's called, the one after the start-finish line) in my own oil with Jamie Whitham watching. I was my worst crash ever. Now with a season's racing under my belt, I hope to be at least a 2-3 seconds quicker. I really want to be at the sharp end of the 750/twins times.

Harv748 17-Feb-2005 11:39

That is a great link Guy...that has to be something we keep archived somewhere for future DSC TD's etc...superb

Felix 17-Feb-2005 11:58

Guy, thanks, I'll give you shout.

BDG, got that one. However, looking at your avatar have you got anything else I could borrow?:D

Steve M 17-Feb-2005 15:00

Way hay;)

JPM 17-Feb-2005 15:02

You need to clean the back of your plate there BDG, that's just filthy

Felix 17-Feb-2005 15:02

Nice one! Makes my laptimes irrelevant as this would me late to the starting line!

Lily 17-Feb-2005 15:10

Maybe we could ask Dave to get her as brolly dolly for desmo due...

Felix - if you haven't got a bike why not pop down to Oulton on 19th anyway as its a saturday and there will be a few of us around :)

Felix 17-Feb-2005 15:12

Lily, very tempting but I don't think I could bear it; standing around while you lot have all the fun!:(
