998 OWNERS I have been in the club for about two years now and been on a few ride outs mainly round Norfolk and the surrounding areas. I have yet to meet anyone else with a 998 and would like to know how many 998 owners there are in the club. I got mine 2 years ago and I'm still in love with it. I had thought about changing it for a 999 but as yet can't make my mind up. The 998 is still the best looking of the two. I test rode the 999 last year which is a very good bike, however, the 999 2005 is better looking with the few changes its had ie red frame, vent out of the fairing and the swing arm. Hopefully I will meet some 998 owners at the Cadwell track day. |
I've got one and I love it. Had the DP engine upgrade kit fitted and loads of other extras. I'm in Scotland though, so a bit far away for Cadwell. :) |
Terrific! S'only way to describe my 998! See you at Cadwell  |
998 Owners I've got one and love it. I'll never trade for a 999. This one is a keeper..... http://images5.fotopic.net/?iid=y3kl...ze=1&nostamp=1 |

Ah:sniff: bless! ain`t my old 888 good enough anymore? Wait `till it comes back from Carl`s:devil: |
are the 998's the ones with the Twistedstressy engines that are all super smooth and feel like IL4's ??????? unlike my agricultural 996 which feels like a real Duke .... ;) |
I have a 998 , should be at Cadwell , hopefully ! |
do I qualify??? |
Sparkin the 888 will look great I know but will you dare ride the thing .Would look good in your lounge though.:D |
I love mine as well |
dibble is that the mrs:devil: |
Yep, 998 here too, although only had it a few months. |
Ah, another one of those "im insecure about my out of date duke threads," Id best justify myself to the club.............:frog: |
i love my 748 if that counts  |
Here, here, me too ! 748 ponies are ample... It's how you ride it that counts. Delooney If it ain't revin, you ain't movin ! |
God I must be really out of date with the 916, you'll be telling me its a classic next.:burn: |
Thats eight of us then. centurysup how much difference has the Dp upgrade kit made :)deej, Delooney what can i say still the best shape. whether it be a 998 or a 748. |
S.P the 916 was the one that started it all off for me. unfortunately its took me this long to get this one. |
Worth the wait mate:D |
roll on 2007 for the next installment of Ducati reincarnation. The 999 didnt last long? Long live the 916/996/998. [Edited on 20-2-2005 by adam] |

It's made a noticeable difference. Feels smoother and gruntier. |
The only problem I have is town riding it is a bit lumpy at low revs probably because of the termies . |
Rooney, try changing the gearing, a couple of teeth up on the rear. |
Try buying a 998s.or an r. I cant understand why you would buy a std 998 and then upgrade the engine which is to the s spec?? Surely the costs involved would warrant buying the next model up and some??:o |
Andy - I realise that now. Engine upgrade didn't bring it up to S price. :o Hindsight's a great thing though isn't it. [Edited on 20-2-2005 by centurysup] |
Adam I changed the front went one tooth smaller |
yeah have to say allthough i have a 10 year old 916 its still faster than any of the new stuff thats being churned out .and yes the 916 started it all off ,anything after that is a reproduction fake in my eyes:frog: |
fd, are you feeling threatened by any chance;) |
Dave shouldn't you be saying that " your faster than any of them 999 guys" ;) |
Here`s my old nail! |
Hey Jon, if you take the space after the .jgp in your signature block, your logo, it will display correctly. As in, no spaces between .jpg and [/img] butt them up against each other. [Edited on 20-2-2005 by tp-996] |
Well spotted that man. Thanks Tp for helping out a tecno nurdy:) |
Bob, I see someone attacked your bike with yellow spray paint. Are they trying to say something?? Centurysup - are you member of the Scottish Region? <- my 748s (sorry for high jacking the big boys thread) |
All those years of study ..... :D |
Forget about trying to justify your choice to anyone else, buying a Duke is about being selfish and not bothering about what anyone else thinks, A mate once called a mono seat duke a " selfish mans bike" maybe that sums it up. The 998 series have the same engines as the 999 series with only a few tweaks on specific models. Just choose the bodywork you like. Ray. |
998 or rather 996R. Went to a bike show yesterday and saw the 2005 999 range. Mmmm, still not right. Welding still not well done on frame, bike still looks incomplete. Those odd triangular inserts at the top of the frame where it meets the seat section, odd and out of place. 998 it is then. :frog: |
well done that man, fantastic choice, 996R it is then:lol: |

I'll second that choice. |
Ive got one. Got it last april and did about 3500 miles last year. Its awesome and is a big improvement on the 996 I had before. Being a greedy get I bought a 748 for the track this year too so have to admit to liking the pure style of the originals. |
I make it ten 998s not bad still pretty exclusive then . Well hope to see a few of you at Cadwell roll on the good weather thats what I say:burn: |
