helmet help please

i have also listed this in the amrket place but feel it best to ask you knowledgable guys first

last year i bought the agv valencia rossi rep and am not overly impressed with it compared to my old so i was thinking of getting a plain arai and the having it sprayed red with the white ducati stripes to match my 748 until a mate suggested the red roof as a option. has anyone on here got a roof helmet or worn 1 and also what price should i expect to pay and wheres the best price to buy from. how comfy are they and whats the fit/noise like them and how easy is it to change/replace the visors on it

cheers in advance

dave

p.s. does anyone want a good condition agv with standard/black visors and rossi decals?? if so please u2u

Festa748 19-Feb-2005 21:30

Ive tried them on but was not impressed with them at all

I have an arai rx7 rr and had it painted. but if i was to swap my lid id look at the shoei xspirit of shark rsr but that is it.

Go for the arai

deej 19-Feb-2005 21:36

yeah i would love the arai but im getting married so only have the cash form the sale of the rossi lid to cover a new 1,shoei dont fit my head and the sharks are hardly ever reduced to my range.

how much did your paint job cost and what did you have done, any pics ?

Melnie Mouse 19-Feb-2005 22:41

Hi, roof helmets do tend to be a bit noisy, shame you weren't impressed with the rossi one, as I'm an agv fan, it wouldn't be worth having your inner cheeks and headling replaced would it? It's fully removable on your helmet..

I was going to suggest Shoei too, but if that doesn't fit, then maybe you could try helmet painting anyone that fits providing it's not the cheap poly one that you buy.. I know someone that would do it for you, but I now see you live in Cornwall, so guess that's out of the question...

Incidently, have you tried more than one AGV or Shoei on, as you know they have different head shapes within their range, and it's so easy to rule a brand out if you've only tried just one! maybe try again... :)

good luck

Festa748 19-Feb-2005 23:12

Yer here a couple of pics
and it cost me £135

Festa748 19-Feb-2005 23:12

And another one for you

deej 19-Feb-2005 23:36

very nice mate

i like it, i like it a lot

melnie, thanks for your tips, yes the cheekpads have been changed its just too big on the chin and my ears have a real bad ring in them after about 45mins riding, all my mates who have owned agv will never go back although a guy i worked with swore by them

have tried a lot of shoei's on but to no good, i beleive in spending good money a lid as it does protect whats supposedly the most important part of me. i think it could be the custom route with an arai if i dont get much positive feedback about roof

GsxrAge 20-Feb-2005 00:19

I have a arai and have had Agv and shark in the past and they were all quiet.:cool::cool:

But i do always wear ear plugs :bouncy::bouncy::bouncy::bouncy:

deej 20-Feb-2005 00:28

tried the old ear plugs today and i dont like them, my ears just dont fit well into the agv and no i dont have big sticky out ears before you ask

right then she be going on fleabay tomorrow

Walenut 20-Feb-2005 09:51

I've always had Shoei, the main reasons I originally went for them was that the bit that goes in front of the jaw is slightly lower on the Shoei compared to the Arai giving you a slightly better range of vision, and the police use them, if there as mad on H&S as our lot then that’s got to be a good advert.
But I have noticed that the latest Shoei helmets are not as quite as the older models, I now have to ride with ear plugs where as I never use to, so I think I will be giving an Arai a go next.

Rooney 20-Feb-2005 10:32

Mate go for the Arai I have had a few different lids but the Arai is definately the best fitting lid I have had. I got an astro j in plain red with a black visor does look good.

Can`t agree more,it`s either the arai or the shoe. They don`t get their reputation for nothing, whether Rooney looks good in his is debatable:P:lol::lol:

Ha Ha fat boy look better than you :D:D:D

jobr 20-Feb-2005 11:29

Flogged by RX7 Corsair on fleabay as I thought it was noisey and went back to Shoei. Got over a £100 off at Ally Pally on an XR-1000.
Very impressed with it.

m1keyp 20-Feb-2005 11:46

I have an AGV Ti Tech, which is the best helmet I have ever worn

My girlfriend has a Roof which is noisy

m1keyp 20-Feb-2005 11:51

Seeing the bit about ear plugs/

Had a set made last year, the difference in performance/comfort between these and foam is amazing

S.P I had a mid ranged Shoei before the RX and the RX was noticably noisier, so I flogged it on fleabay and got the XR which I am delighted with.

Road Runner 20-Feb-2005 16:37

Uvex RS Wing the best Ive had to date and the one I use now, tried most types over the years liked Shoei helmets but hated the Shark bought one at one of the bike shows only wore it a few times just couldn't get on with it awful thing. But then we all have different shaped heads.

deej 20-Feb-2005 17:27

didnt mind the shark as it was my first lid, the arai is the best no 2 ways about it, cant find a comfy shoei and the agv ti tech fits nice in the showroom but not so nice when riding, really big chin bar which really gets caught by the wind, its not a noisy lid but my ears just have a constant ringing in them,i rode to brands with it on lats year for wsb and it took 15 mins for my heraing to be back to normal yet when i rode the arai to donnie they were fine

not a great advert for the lid really but is each to their own by the look of it

kirk748b 20-Feb-2005 21:39

Hey Festa, where you get the helmet sprayed for that price?

Rik...

Frank 21-Feb-2005 10:11

I've got myself a roof. very easy to change the visor, have not noticed it being that noisy but to some extent this may depend on your ear plugs.

down side to it is the front airvent. does not close air tight so in the winter a very nasty stream of cold air comes through even when shut (not so bad in the summer!). I block it will a tissue but that's not the point.

smilo006 21-Feb-2005 10:28

Am now on my third Arai, always had them. Like the fit, the venting and build. Actually never paid anywhere near full price. If you hunt around and don't mind last year's paint job then you can uaually pick them up at a good discount.

For example:
Arai Astro J Parkes Rep - 11400 A stunning Race Replica Helmet SALE PRICE RRP £399.99 Price: £230.00
http://www.motorcycle-clothing-store...e_Helmets.html
Mate just bought one, very pleased.

Henners 21-Feb-2005 19:02

TP 22-Feb-2005 01:48

Indo has a rep for this sort of dodgy stunt in Oz.

But hey, they bombed our embassy so take a pinch of salt ;)

rcgbob44 22-Feb-2005 09:24

I always thought that Roof helmets were for people without any taste at all. There really fugly! ........................ if you own a 749 or 999 it would probably match!:pig::pig::pig:

deej 22-Feb-2005 19:04

got to agree to a point, it was just a cheaper way to get the idea i wanted but hey hoo !!

been and tried on the shoei range today, typical really 1 model fits well on forehead and 1 fits well on the cheeks, mind you they are bringing out the yukio rep in rep instead of blue

tp did you know that suomy are releasing the new bayliss rep next month. looks good in a dodgy ozzie way, well will look good on a yellow monster thats for sure

deej 22-Feb-2005 19:06
