Bar Raisers again ... Is it necassary to change the clutch and brake pipes as stated in the instructions ( the instructions say yes, the web site says no !) Also I foun my set didn't have the bolt to attche the clamps to the fork leg ( m8 x 1.25 x 20 Allen bolt) any ideas wher can get one? I have asked spareshack who sulppied the raisers ... Thanks |
Any fixings suplier should keep common sizes like that. Look in your yellow pages. |
Next question ... fitment method is "remove top triple tree". No problem , I can do that. Undo the steering damper, undo the three allen bolts on the fork yoke. Now what do I do ... hit it with a rubber mallet? Cos it tis very firmly in place and doesn't want to move. I have looked in a Haines manual, but unfortunately they assume some mechanical competancy ! There is the central fitment in the middle of the yoke ... slot down the middle, and holes around the out side. Does this have to be loosened? And if so how? [Edited on 20-2-2005 by the phantom pieman] |
There'll be some twisting force on the top yoke wedging it in place. Take the weight off the fromt wheel by jacking under the engine, or use Abba stand, then it should wiggle off easy enough. |
Rubber mallet is always useful to have around. The centre boss is the bearing preload. You don't want/need to touch that. Patience..........................then hit it!!:frog: |
Cheers , thanks for the prompt service ! Basically tw*t with a mallet .... my sort of mechanics ..... but I will stick it in an ABBA stand first. Last question ... if I do detach the clutch and brake reserviours, which having looked at it seems a much do, will I have to bleed both these systems, or will gravity be enough to it sort out ? |
I did not need to bleed mine (cycle cat) just fitted the longer to to the reservoiors and they were fine. Removing the top yolk seems daunting but as previously stated just **** it with a rubber mallet |
Thanks for the advice ..... |
Everything has gone ok, bars in place etc .... Now I am trying to re-attach the hydraulic pipes for the clutch and brake reserviours. Bit of a problem .... the std Duke ones are aroun 10 mm outer diameter and the CC ones are 12-13 mm. One you put the metal spring clip on, there is no way they are going to go over the "male" mounts on the lever and reserviour. And I worry about breaking these mounting points. Any suggestions? Thanks [Edited on 2-3-2005 by the phantom pieman] |
They will go over, you need to have the clip on the hose, not over the bit that will fit the "male" mount. Once the hose is over the male mount then slide the clip down over the male mount Sorted! Where on middle earth are you? |
hope theyre not tooo difficult, got some coming myself! |
Middle Earth is Zurich, in the lovely Police state of Switzerland. Mind you the passes are good ... Ok Riser update. I have been e mailing Cycle Cat in the USA. What an excellent company ... immeadiate contact , and very very helpful. I paid 160 ish for mine, and I know you can get them direct on the internet for much cheaper. But with the service i got, I am more than happy Here is the resume. The set I bought had tubing made by "suppliers that supply HRC" ... and were about a year old. Since then they have reverted to std Ducati fitment and clips. The tubing is less flexible than standard and about 2mm in diameter bigger. CC suggestion was that I used "zip ties" ( they do this on their own show bikes etc). But use pliers to make sure it is as tight as fcuk. And it looks ok to be honest. They are mailing me the new tubing asap, and new clips. But suggest staying with the zip ties, as it's what they do ..... Here is some advice in general. Take of the nose cone, I couldn't be arsed cos it is minus 13 in my garage , and the extra 1/2 meant a lot!. ****ting the yoke off is easy ... you just need courage. Three bolts undone and hit wth a rubber mallet The risers do not sit as high on the fork legs as the Ducatii standard ones. If you move them that high, then they will foul the fairing. i reckon mine are about 1.25 higher than standard. Getting them the same height is a bit of a fag .... but at normal temps, and a cup of coffee , you'll suss it out fine. If you set the bar high ish, you will have to re-route the throttle so it exits BELOW the bar. Small pre holes are drilled at for both above and below fitting. The rubber grommit on the clutch side is too small to use with the std bolt. Take the grommit from the normal clutch res holder. Mine came with bar ends about three inches long .... too wide, too ugly. So i will look at removing or modding them. The brake and clutch reserviours are mounted on the bar ends , inside the cockpit. They slightly obscure the clocks ... ish Stuart at Spareshack is also a bit of a gem ..... Hope that helps,... feel free to e mail me if you have any problems |
cheers PP, got mine from states coming in soooon....seems fairly straight forward and its cold, but not that cold!! so garage and a coffee should work. |
The guy that i dealt with at Cycle Cat was Alfred Kobaccher, even offered to fit them for me if took him to Assen:D:D:D The best customer service I have received:bouncy: |
Yup, that's the guy ..... Stunning service ..... |
