Does anyone know the official number of sps version's shipped in over the years?
Sad I know, but just wondering how rare they are these days.

Ta,just getting to find my way around here

BDG 23-Feb-2005 01:24

Haynes do a book by Ian Fallon called 'Ducati 916' which lists production numbers at the back, although for certain years it lists figures for Europe as a whole, and in later years UK production.

916 sps 1997 Europe 550
916 sps 1998 Europe 408
Foggy rep sps 1998 UK 202
996 sps 1999 UK 40
996 sps 2000 UK 80

Hope that helps.

Thanks, will do my homework.

bradders 23-Feb-2005 20:35

how come they were far less in 99/00? Or is it likely that a similar number made it to the uk in 97/98? Anyone knwo how many in Europe 99/00?

Harv748 23-Feb-2005 20:39

And what about the 916 SP (1995) or the SP3 (1996, although I don't know if any of these were brought to these shores) both prior to the SPS series which started around 1997 as stated above.

I believe the reason there appear to be so many more pre-99 was that they were all made in European spec with kmh clocks and then modifed by the importers when they arrived in the UK, so this is a total number off the production line.

After this time they left the factory in UK spec and you can therefore tell how many officially made their way into this country.

There are a couple of books by Ian Falloon that give all the numbers - check out by author on Amazon or something like that - they're a reasonable read.

Harv

310 in 1994

The book only gives production figures upto and including 2000.

EUROPE
167 of the 98 model
158 of the 99 model
150 of the SPS2 99 model
575 of the 2000 model

these are in addition to the UK models, and just to confuse matters further there were also French models, which at a guess may have been restricted to 100bhp to comply with French law.....A restricted SPS hmmmmm:puzzled: or for racing?

FRANCE
15 of the 98 model
40 of the 99 model
30 of the 2000 model

At the risk of being corrected by someone more knowledable than me (not hard admittedly)

The sequence of top of the range, homologation specials for WSB racing was as follows, and you will see where the SP3 fits in. Tuned engines, higher spec suspension and brakes than the standard models of the respective years.

916 SP in 1994
916 SP2 in 1995
916 SP3 in 1996
916 SPS in 1997 and 1998
996 SPS in 1999 and 2000

Some people believe the year 2000 SPS with Ohlins forks was the best, whereas others, Nelly at Cornerspeed believe the SP3 is the most collectable with the most frenetic engine of the pre stretta engines.

Hope that explains things.

And Harv748 has one sitting in his garage-used to belong to my mate Cameron who now lives in Hawaii and couldn't take it with him-emissions and stuff-bloody Americans. As I am sure Harv will be only to glad to confirm the bike is an absolute animal, rides like a 916 until you get to about 7000 rpm and then it takes of like someone stuck an exocet up the exhaust, revs to 11500! and makes power all the way up there. I sold it for Cam when he moved-still regret not keeping it myself.:(

This is interesting........

My year 2000 996SPS is number 1500 (so it says on the little badge on the top yoke) but this would obviously refer to total production - still seems like a lot of 996SPS's though - I don't suppose the numbering would have carried on from the 916SPS ?

fastdave 25-Feb-2005 18:22

ohh goody i have an sp3 so will hopefully be worth a bit in years to come
but the engine is no longer standard as i bought conrad bradleys corse spec 955 kit engine with close ratio gearbox :bouncy:

Hell's bell's this is going to run further than Katie Price's PR campaign.
I did see somewhere on the net someone had started a world wide register of Duke Sennas including numbers.
What do you think DSC start a register or we do the same just to see what is left after the wreckage????
