ST3 Recall

I've been told that there is a recall for the 04 models to replace the ECU and exhaust valve springs to improve smooth engine running.

rockhopper 24-Feb-2005 20:52

They have exhaust valve springs?

Henners 24-Feb-2005 23:13

Yep - only lightweight but they're there :)

rockhopper 25-Feb-2005 09:43

True, helper springs they are really.

Recall ST3; sort of

Well it's not a recall, its a service bulletin.
I have an American bulletin that says to replace "closing rocker arm return spring" and the ECU with new partnumbers.

It's valid for bikes with VIN# under 4B003609.
Seem to me that it goes for European Bikes as well.
My girlsfriends bike has 4B002213 so I'm going to ask my dealer to replace the items.

Greetings, Jean

I have an 04 ST3. Had the 600 mile first service done last week and dealer didn't mention anything to me regarding this.

Will give them a call & see what they (Ducati Bristol) say.

Hey Steve ,what did ducati (Bristol) Ridsers? say or havn't you asked yet?
cheers david

JUst sent an e mail to Duncan, the service manager to get his opinion.

Will post it when I get a reply.

Just had a reply from the service manager at Ducati Bristol, and I quote:

"The so called recall in question is not a recall and is only for bikes that have a running problem from new. The valve springs are too weak and cause running problems which we don't have with your bike so don't worry."

I suppose if you have an ST3 you need to decide if you've got a running problem or not. Mine is fine as the dealer says, and it would appear that this issue is not an official recall problem.

Hope this helps

Like I said, it is not a recall but a service bullitin and yes you have to decide for your self if your bike is suffering from bad idling and "on and off" reactions. But I would sure try to get both replaced....
