Carling Cup

Chelsea, or Liverpool?

You tell me, and why.

jobr 27-Feb-2005 15:12

Liverpool I hope because they beat us in the semi-finals (the glory hornets of Watford)

And because I want to see that smug grin wiped off of Moanio's face.

Jools 27-Feb-2005 15:13

No idea about footie, never liked it, never will.

I'm just killing time at the moment. I've had to make a deal with Mrs Jools, she gets to watch the godawful cr@p that is Eastenders, I get to watch the rugby.

Only another 16 minutes

Dibble 27-Feb-2005 15:13

Liverpool, 2-1, mainly because Chelsea have no history of coming through very high pressure games, as well as they are doing this season and as much as they claim to be a "big" club, historically they haven't ever won a lot.....

Liverpool on the other hand .... their record says it all ....

Also Chelsea haven't played too well the last few games nicking one-nils but not being convincing ....

I reckon if they lose todat the league is also in danger .....

Look whats happened to Arsenal since Man U ended their run ...

And no i'm not a glory boy, I'm a Charlton fan ...

I was going to start a poll on that one too ... hold on ..

adam 27-Feb-2005 15:15

liverpool

Reason. to see that smug face wiped of the Chelsea manager.

TP 27-Feb-2005 15:18

Well I'm a Chelsea supporter so I'm going with Chelsea.

With Terry back in and Cech in goal the best club defence in England is back together. Neither team is looking awesome up front but with Drogba, Duff and Lampard I think they'll do enough.

Having said that, I can see this going to penalties!

Brent 27-Feb-2005 15:34

Chelsea of course. We must be due to score some goals eventually without the help of Robben.

Dibble 27-Feb-2005 16:01

whoops ..... :P 45 seconds

andyb 27-Feb-2005 16:03

why is that then ????

it take a lot more eye ball co-ordination, not to mention skill to play football than it does to play rugby, anything other than walking that you do with your feet is infinitely harder than doing things with your hands ......

and before you go off on one I have played both competitevly since the age of 8, playing at county standard in my rugby which included being coached by and playing alongside Micky Skinner at Askeans .... I have also played football to a reasonably high standard and still do ......

no questioning rugby is a "tougher" sport, but don't belittle something because you don't like it ......

sorry, just one of my pet hates ... rant over .... calm restored ...

dickieducati 27-Feb-2005 18:43

wonder how many more tophies they will buy?

most alleged chelsea fans probably never even heard of them before this season.

dare say they'll all disappear when roman takes his money and runs.

TP 27-Feb-2005 18:50

Meeeeeooooowwww - very bitter aren't you!

Take heart, you're still in the FA Cup and the Champions League. You could still have two trophies!

What a loud of complete blx and sour grapes Paul!

Chelsea finished 4th in the Premiership the season before either Abromavich or Mourinho turned up. Hardly insignificant.

My clue about it being Micky Mouse would be,

Its about my millions are better than your millions and i chose to drop them in this label!

The players have no respect for the Referee.

The language used on National tv. is distgusting, rolemodels.........yeah right.

Although given that the majority cant string a sentence together its no wonder why.

The difference between gamesmanship and cheating.

The pathetic way a situation of no contact leaves the player rolling around on the floor, and even if he chooses to confront another its all in a bit pushy handbag way.

The pundits are nothing but a string of cliche's

Who on earth would throw coins at the players on a field of sport.

The fact that it costs the tax payer thousands to Police a few thousand crowd around here for a game of football, when 1/2 mile down the road you get 12000 rugby fans with no contingency required!

The state of its management where clubs apart from the chosen 4, go bust and get picked up by the taxpayer, where as the rugby clubs have generated their own turnover.

Dibble 28-Feb-2005 10:58

mate i'm talking about "the game" ... not "the sport" .... two entirely different discussions, please try and stay on topic.

Football clubs pay their own Police bill.
I went to Wolves on Saturday and there was not one Policeman in sidethe ground, but lots of inept stewards. My guess is they are far cheaper.

no sour grapes.....but look at the debt they had, if Roman hadnt come in, they would be docked 10 points and in recievership now!! Look at Leeds - thats Chelsea in 2/3 seasons.....shame, because ANYONE is better than the Gooners!.......except those red Scousers! (Blue noses OK;))

everton 28-Feb-2005 12:19

PMSL at this lot.........

.........btw, thanks Bradders for the blue nose thumbs up!!

Look at the top six in the Premiership today -

Chelsea.......... its a BUSINESS for god's sake. Ultimately, they're in the position they're in because of money. They are the nouveau riche, like the lottery winner. They do nothing for football in my book

Man Utd.........much as I hate to say it owe their success to one man - Sir (rightfully) Alex. His drive, determination and vision through his youth squad put them where they are today. Sure they spend loadsa money but they earnt that.

Arsenal..........dunno why, always had a soft spot for the gooners. I like their quaint old ground and never met an a*se of a supporter - all good uns in my book. Again, Mr Wenger has worked them well and they deserve their success

Everton...........yes I know, my lot. Got nothing, sold our star player (thank goodness..........he's better off surrounded by better players, a steadying influence and the bling culture a big club brings) and yet we're 4th. Pinch me I'm dreaming.....as I had us down for relegation this season.

Liverpool..........gobshites all of 'em ;) I didn't want either side to win yesterday, not possible I know. Seriously though, the Shankley team will always be the greatest and Liverpool only need a good manager to rejuvinate I'm sure

Middlesbrough........often there or there abouts. Would be good to see a NE team back in the hunt.

The most spooky thing, from a personal point of view, is that five of my best boozing buddies in my village support each of those five teams excluding the blues and they're ...

The Chelsea fan..........mega rich himself and embarressed by his team
The Man U fan.........like many a long time supporter (through the Busby Babe sympathy thing but ever been to OT :o ) but know's his footie
The Arsenal fan...........a real cheeky chappie, true Londoner and a season ticket holder...........hates Chelsea!!
The Liverpool fan...........good to make fun of at the moment
The Middlesbrough fan..........passionate, nervous, born & bred in Brough and a stabilising influence on all of us lot.

Sorry if I come across as a bit negative about Chelsea but it's because they exhibit everything that's bad about the game/sport.

I can't motivate my 2 boys to go to football any more. To them its boring :o:o

Can't keep 'em away from the Rugby though fortunately.....it's the one game that instills respect, sportsmanship and pride.

There...mild rant over.

Which bit of players cheating as apposed to gamesmanship, money ruling which team is in and which aint, the lack of respect for the man in the middle, how fickle the players are, and the supporters are for that matter when you look at say Rooney. The bad attitudes that have spilt out from the field of play to everyday life and the knock on effect of that onto the youth of today, is not about the game? Theres no need to be so condescending either, or is that the footballer coming out in you? i didnt realise that you are allways right and have took the mantle of DSC website Enforcer. Find a picture for that.

Everton, you are indeed correct most clubs have now taken to employing their own staff inside the ground. But any problems are just thrown out of the stadium for the taxpayer to pick up. Plus of course there is the getting to the ground and away from it!

As for the Arsenal/Chelsea or any of the top clubs issue. They are all only in their position due to money. Unless theyve built themselves up on homegrown talent?:lol:

Andy,

I don't think I said anything about policing football?? But I will agree that it is police resources, money etc that would be much better deployed/spent in other areas.

As for Everton being .... 'They are all only in their position due to money. ':lol::lol::lol::lol:

We haven't got any........most of the Rooney fee was used to stave off the club's enormous debt!!

Sorry mate, i said the top clubs.............

Manchester united did do well in nurturing beckham, scholes, giggs etc but they are also guilty of buying in players money no object.......rooney!

you still seem to be confusing sportsmanship with gamesmanship .... gamesmanship is your ability to play the game ... sportsmanship is how you play it ....

the other stuff ie policing, attitudes, money is all politics and nothing to do with "the game" ...

I took issue at you belittling a highly skillful sport, one which takes far more talen than rugby toplay successfully .....

If you find that condescending, then so be it ....

Just watched the news.......that player from southampton sent off....sportsmanship? The manager from Chelsea.....gamesmanship?

Can we go a little light hearted here? Everytime i respond on here, i cant help chuckling at the thought of you running around in your shorts that used to fit you, eating a doughnut........:lol:
