Daytona 200 - Live on Motors TV

The first round of the AMA Superbike Championship is at Daytona and is televised live on March 12, 16:15 GMT, on Motors TV. I know what I'll be doing...Go Hodgson! Remember, Ducati have NEVER won the Daytona 200.

But wasn't that "a guy on a Ducati", as opposed to Ducati Motor?

Aah c'mon,.. it was a Ducati!!

KeefyB 10-Mar-2005 23:19

Looks like we aint never gonna get a Ducati winner of the 200.The race is now for the Formula Extreme bikes,ie super tuned 600's.There are a couple of 749R's in there, qualifying in 23rd and 30th.:( DuHamel is on pole.
The Superbikes are on earlier in the day.

Felix 11-Mar-2005 10:42

Yes, reportedly done for safety reasons as the tyres won't last for 200 miles on Superbike. Ducati has struggled in the past to last the 200 miles. With the shorter race (70k) it should at least make it to the finish.

Hodgy qualified third and on the front row, full grid here. It looks like the Suzuki's are plenty fast but Honda are not quite there yet. Sort of similar to the first WSB race. It'll be interesting to see how the first BSB race ends up.

The race is on at 11:15 local time on Saturday, or 4:15PM on Motors-TV!

Keefy, looks like we're the only one paying attention here.

I'm with you there mate!:)
Interesting interview of Mat Mladin on the AMA website,He says he could'nt have gone any faster and used Hodgy's slipstream to make the time.A bit of respect there methinks!

TP 11-Mar-2005 22:01

Wasn't paying attention in here, but in the other thread ;)

I wish I could get Motors TV with Telewest! I'm a bit gutted about the superbikes not doing the 200 though, just doesn't seem right.

TP 11-Mar-2005 22:02

It's on SS3 at midday .... on March 20 :(

KeefyB 12-Mar-2005 07:23

Just double checked the listings,
AMA Superbikes live on Motors at 4.15pm and the Daytona 200 live at 6.00pm.:D

I`ll be watching and paying attention:D I really enjoy AMA,especially the head butting:o:lol:
It`s the 1000cc formula extremes on the 200,don`t think there`s any privateer Dukes entered in that is there keef?

Henners 12-Mar-2005 09:48

Go Hodgy!!!!!!

"We're impressed and very proud of Neil for doing so well in his first AMA qualifying session against some very strong competition," said Parts Unlimited Ducati Austin Team Manager Tom Bodenbach. “We'll see how the race goes, pace-wise, but otherwise we're in pretty good shape for the race.”

sparkin 12-Mar-2005 16:48

Felix 12-Mar-2005 19:11

Yeah, you're right sparkin. Tremendous race. It should be a good championship this year.

TP 12-Mar-2005 19:41

One step closer to my £20 then ...

:smug:

sparkin 12-Mar-2005 20:02

Got MotorsTV on now,and it it 600cc class:o:puzzled:
I thought it was 1000cc,was it ever 1000cc`s or am I always wrong?

AMA Website:

Ducati Austin’s Neil Hodgson made an extremely impressive debut as an AMA Superbike full-timer. The 2003 World Superbike champ shook free of a talented group of pursuers on lap 6 of 15, and then proved to be the only man capable of keeping Mladin honest during the middle and latter stages of the contest.

“I’m glad to have gotten that one out of the way,” the British hero said afterwards. “Everybody’s got a little bit of testing planned and then we’ll go to the next round. I'm really pleased. Last night when I was in bed if someone would have said, ‘You’ll finish second,’ I would have taken it. I’ve got mixed feelings inside; you feel happy to have gotten it out of the way and taken some good points and then you feel sick because you didn’t win.

“Unfortunately, Mat was just too quick. Everybody warned me; they said, ‘Watch out for Mat, he’ll go really quickly in the beginning.’ And he did, so I got caught with my pants down. But I don’t think I could have stayed with him anyway.”

The move he made at the start didn't endear him to Mladin thats for sure :frog:

matt748 12-Mar-2005 21:41

Hodgy did well, and it was good to see him back on a podium, but I hope our TV broadcasting doesn't ever get like the Yank TV. Even the on bike cameras were sponsored with graphics on the screen everytime FFS.
As for the cutting between the Live broadcast and the voice of Motors TV man.............Neil Hodgeton on a Ducati 99r.
:puzzled:Must have said it 5 times.
Still, I reckon the Yanks will take to Hodgy well. Not sure Mladin likes his starts though:D

Felix 12-Mar-2005 21:48

The other interesting thing Neil said in the post race interview was that "Ducati got a bit of a wake-up call" and that already new parts are being developed in Italy. Let's hope he's right and Ducati can find a bit more power from the twin...until the V4 comes on-line.:D

Yes it did used to be for 1000cc bikes.I seem to remember Kurtis Roberts winning it on a 'Blade one year.Dunno why they went to 600's tho......
Great race from Neil!:)

sparkin 13-Mar-2005 09:00

Ah, not going mental after all then:bouncy: I don`t think Neil should be to dissapointed with a second there, only beated by MatM.Showed his intent of the line thou;)

Henners 13-Mar-2005 09:59

You're right Sparkin' - shades of no more Mr Niceguy

TP 13-Mar-2005 11:21

I can't wait to see this race then.

I know who I think is the harder man out of the two!

Felix 13-Mar-2005 12:11

Mladin is a moaning git!:frog:

Big fish, little pond springs to mind:) Where was Mr Mladin at Luguna when WSB arrived....................er I can see him...........mid pack!Hats off to him,he keeps winning...........in the same series..............fresh challenge anyone?
"not for me"says Mat:P:D

Walenut 13-Mar-2005 13:42

You can't knock that 2nd first time racing there and that course looks tuff, it must be a nightmare to set up a bike with those banked parts.

Fair enough - he has been to GP's though when he was younger and got shafted.

With the amount of wedge he'd be on there I'm not surprised he's happy to stay - especially as he's winning.

Now imagine if he was going on and on about how he's better than Valentino and could beat him any day of the week ... and then started his own race team (which he has, but the bikes aren't turquoise ;) )

ziggi 14-Mar-2005 10:02

For sure - the AMA superbike championship just got better now that Hodgson has arrived. The americans seem to love him already, the commentators seem to praise him overtly at times.

Mat was probably upset that he was only credited with leading 14 out of 15 laps :D
