Baby R + Leo Vinci = :D

Just got my 749R back from JHP/Ducati Coventry. As usual excellent service from John H, Ken, Dave, John B and the team.

I had the 12 month service, plus a 57mm Leo Viinci, Power Commander, new rear spring and 25mm shim stack for the front forks.

John's dyno shows 127bhp and a beautiful flat torque curve. The power is still rising when it hits the rev limiter.

Can't wait for it to stop raining so that I can take it for a quick ride :)

Rob

SWEEEET!!! Congrats!!! :)

No pics, and dyno pic?
How much for the 12 month service??

electricsheep 12-Mar-2005 17:47

pics and dyno chart tomorrow once i get my pc fully functional again

UKRR 12-Mar-2005 18:24

I guess the comment about making power at the rev limiter is the justification for the race kit which revs to 13,000 rpm - nice !

pedro 12-Mar-2005 19:14

sounds very nice too rob, quality finish:smug:

Funnily enough just picked my 999R up today from John, top work as ever, pretty much standard as such, race pipes, only done 72 miles when I picked her up, about 142hp already :D

Doesn't half shift from 6k upwards!!!

Big up to Johnny H, Johnny B, Crystal Ken, Dave and even Craig (even though I have seen the most worrying photo of him as a pit bitch!)...unfortunately this cost them a sale of the shorts, as I will only be able to imagine him wearing them rather than Lily!

Happy days....

Dyno Chart

sbwells 12-Mar-2005 20:29

electricsheep - how much time is involved in setting the bike up once the exhaust has been fitted. What do they normally do. Trim the fueling and CO level, reset TPS etc?

I told my local dealer (475 miles away) that the boys in the UK are seeing around 130 rwhp from a 749R with a 54 / 57mm termi exhaust and some setup/head work. They haven't had one 749 / 999 series bike with anything more than termi asy. muffler kit fitted.

See over here in NZ there is only one bike in the whole bloody country that has had anything more than the termi asymetric muffer kit fitted. Propably due to cost and lack of knowledge. Oh and I forgot availability

...and a power commander?

sharpo 12-Mar-2005 23:11

127 from a 749, is that for real or is the dyno rather optimistic ?
Seems like a lot to me.

dickieducati 13-Mar-2005 09:36

no i'd say thats spot on. its a very well fettled 749 by one of the best ducati people around.

sharpo 13-Mar-2005 10:08

I'm impressed.
It should waste most stock 996/998's yes.

electricsheep 13-Mar-2005 11:52

Don't forget the standard 2004 749R has 118 bhp, so it is not that huge a gain.

Here is a photo of the bike with the pipe fitted

[Edited on 13-3-2005 by electricsheep]

Ducnow 13-Mar-2005 13:00

COOL!!

Doesn't the 749 R comes with a half racing pipe like the 04 999R or the 05 999S?
Is that Leo a full system?

electricsheep 13-Mar-2005 13:13

No the 749R does not come with the asymetrical open termi's that came with the 999R.

I did not know that the 2005 999S came with extra pipes.

Yes that is a Leo Vinci full system.

I the rain holds off for another couple of hours I should be able to take for a test ride :D

Ducnow 13-Mar-2005 13:20

Yep, the 05 S brings extra pipes just like the R did.

Go for that test ride and report back :D

TP 13-Mar-2005 13:37

That looks sweet Rob - can't wait to have a go at Brands ;) and Almeria ;)

Col996s 13-Mar-2005 14:09

Looks good Rob.
Are they as loud as you were expecting?

Open pipes like the 54mm and 57mm termi's or Leo Vinci's need either a new ECU with the correct fuel map or a Power Commander

Termi's come with the new ECU so they would need no setup.

If the pipe doesn't have a matching ECU then you would use a Power Commander

To setup a power commander properly you need a dyno and a skilled operator. If they have already worked on a similar bike I think the process is pretty quick

I found a link on the Power Commander sire for tuning sites in New Zealand

http://www.powercommander.com/center...tml#newzealand

Hope that this helps

Looks great Rob, Have you been out on it yet? Shame on you if you haven't. I've just been for a short ride to Maningtree, Elmstead Market, Thorpe & back to Harwich. Roads were dry & sun shinning :)

electricsheep 13-Mar-2005 17:37

just back from a quick blast, i can definately feel the extra power. It makes a beautiful deep growl on the overrun.

handles much better, not sure how much is due to the fork upgrades and how much is due to the uprated rear spring.

very happy :D:D

neilkeogh 13-Mar-2005 19:25

Rob,

Nice looking set of cans, i trust they're street legal?:D

very happy :D:D

:puzzled: How come a bike like a 749R needs fork and shock upgrades unless if you're racing in a really high competitive class???
What upgrades have you done and why?
What change in terms of hadling have you felt?

Real McCoy 13-Mar-2005 21:36

Ohlins and showas can need different internals and springs due to the riders weight etc

I uprated the spring (not the shock) on the rear as i am a fat git

I have had the suspension setup and usually both front and rear springs upgraded on several bikes, It has always made a noticable difference. The 749R had the best suspension I have experienced out of the box.

But I still needed to change the spring on the rear anyway, and the shim stack cost no more than it has cost me to change the front springs on other bikes

I probably did not need the shim stack upgrade for the forks, but it was not that expensive and I was told that it makes a big difference to the front suspension. I will post more feedback after I have taken it on track

Ok, got that.
To resume........ you're a fat git :frog:

KeefyB 14-Mar-2005 06:40

Fantastic looking bike there!

Monty 14-Mar-2005 10:29

I am advised that Butch's baby 'R' has something in the region of 138rwbhp!-mind you that has the full race kit on-I can't wait to try it at Cadwell.

Be interested to see what you think of the shims etc, John discussed this with me a while ago, but as I haven't ridden the bike long enough to know if I need it or not I thought I'd better get some miles under my belt before I do that
