what happened ? |
apparently I am in trouble as I can't stop laughing as I imagine him making beaker noises..... "memememememe" Wasn't very nice at the time though and not a cheap 1/4 mile ride!! On the plus side, the 999 is much lighter to push than a 998 ;) |
yeah he is fine :) bit bruised and getting stiffer by the minute though |
define "much" remember on a 999r everything is expensive! |
nah, its all cosmetic, just some of it slightly expensive cosmetic :( fingers crossed it will be up and running this week although a few bits may take a bit longer. i am sure he will give full details when he cheers up! |
That's the plan assuming he can get all the bits in the next few days and we can fit them ok. doesn't need too much to make it rideable it just won't look very pretty! |
What happened? Go on, own up. |
Parts wise, of which I need immediately to at least ride are: L/H clip-on (996 variety, not 999) - Long story! Brembo Radial Clutch lever L/H rearset (complete) Gear lever - JHP one for that So not a great deal there... Worst of the damage though was to the swingarm, bike went backwwards up the kerb, so ground all of the braced area down slightly :( so the whole swingarm will need replacing at some point. Also tank got about a 1cm dent (easily repairable) and the seat unit was scratched, but should repair OK also. The water pump cover has a slight mark, but intact, so something else for the long term there. Luckily the trackday bodywork did it's job and took the brunt of the damage, glad I wasn't running with the R bodywork. Also those fork crash protectors are worth their weight in gold, saved the forks at least. No idea what happened, although I suspect just cold tyres, literally rolled around a r/about right next to my house, was doing 25mph round the island (I remember looking at the clocks) as I exited the island the back end just slid away without any warning, and down she went... I guess the good news is I walked away unharmed, worst damage I've got is a bruised little finger of all things, got up, we picked the bike up and pushed it back the 300 yards where I began the process of stripping it down. Starts up first time, and runs OK, so mainly just cosmetic.... better get my wallet out! [Edited on 13-3-2005 by jpmercer] |
BUGGER Mate, as much as I'd like to laugh you went down in similar circumstances to me just over a year ago and I was way peeved! Sorry to hear it, hope everything gets sorted quickly. Although I might have a little chuckle ... maybe after I finish this beer. :) |
Cheers Tony, now that panel I gave you..... £1000! :D |
Sorry to hear of your spill, I am sure there is some kind of Grease fairy going ot at nioght and Greasing up the Roundabouts of the Northwest as a few times this weekend my arse has twitched as ive hit something slippy on a Roundabout. Hope its sorted for next weekend, You can say hello to you old 996 again too |
As this was on the road isn't this an insurance claim ? |
Quote:
Could be, but better for me to pay up, rather than lose all those years of no claims! |
I know what you mean, check all the prices first as I would guess that the swing arm will be serious money. The other problem with insurance will be the 3 months they take to get it fixed. Hope that you get it sorted and that it's not too expensive |
Bad luck, mate. Just one of those "freak" accidents, I suppose. It wasn't with the Renegade bodywork on it, was it? |
Felix Yep, the Koji bodywork is looking a little worse for wear at the moment, but it was still cheaper than binning it with the carbon road kit on. It's one way to warm up on a cold day though, by the time i had pushed it half way back while he rode my bike back I was very warm!! |
Damn, sorry to hear that JPM, and I was only saying how nice it looked the other day! Hope it wasn't me that jinxed you! :puzzled: |
poo:( |
Well sorted clip-on and lever, just waiting for a call for the rest of the bits to at least get me up and running, hopefully get everything I need within the next few days |
oh bugger.:sniff: |
JP....what a bummer mate, Hope you get it sorted ok :( |
Well all but one of the immediate parts are available today, hopefully the last one will be in tomorrow (hopefully) to at least get me up and running, she won't look too pretty for Oulton, but fingers crossed she'll be there. Spoke to Nelly briefly about the big job that needs doing, also sorted another t/day kit me thinks, just got some paintwork to sort, so need to get that ball rolling and hopefully good as new for summer... |
Bugger! Bad luck JPM. At least it is fairly cosmetic and no real injuries to you. |
Jon, Just read rest of the posts and realise you have sourced the bars already, but it there if you need it. really sorry to hear:mad: give me a shout if there are bits you need picking up from around the country as i may have vehicles in the vicinity. |

Shaun, top offer as ever, there's a huge list over at JHP which will hopefully be completed tomorrow, after the weekend I will need to get some stuff down to Ripsnorting to sort the odd ding and scratch also, so you might be getting a call... I suppose the main thing is I am OK, the bike is just a bike and can easily be repaired, unlike me.... getting older and aching more by the minute! :o |
Sorry...............I hate it when you hear someone has binned it................you always feel obliged to say "well no one was hurt"...........but it doesn't help one bit does it? |
Chief... not really, but it's nice to know someone cares to a degree. Just had Ken on from JHP, to check how I was, that was really touching if I am honest, he didn't have to do that... Top fella |

Dry your eye's and get back to work you big poof! ;) |

;) I'd be a great manager  |
Wow, what a bummer :( Sorry to hear about that, but at least you're not hurt and that's the main thing ;) |
ah bummer:mad: I've got a scaffold pole and some gaffa tape you can borrow to repair the swing arm - worked a treat on the CB5:lol: Do you know why it went down? WeeJohnyB |

WJB.... I've had a fair few off's over the years (who hasn't?) but non like this :puzzled: I just get the feeling it was cold tyres and maybe a tad too much lean angle, really hard to say for sure, I was only 300yds from home so the tyres were clearly stone cold and rumbled around the r/about at 25mph, just started to roll the throttle on the exit, not a handful by any means and next thing I'm spinning round towards the deck, like I've said the swingarm is the major damage, the rest is the usual stuff from an off, clip on, peg, lever... blah blah blah It's knocked the confidence a bit though as I keep replaying it over and over in my head trying to figure out exactly what I did. I think they'll be gaffer tape a plenty for the weekend though :D [Edited on 14-3-2005 by jpmercer] |
Jon I've read quite a few reports that the local councils have used a new additive with the salt this year which has made the roads VERY slippy. As the roads still seem covered in it, it may just expalin it. Was something in MCN recently and our area is one of the areas using the stuff. |
Quote:
Hmmmm Might explain it I guess, there were signs of salt/grime etc on the road, no oil/diesel as I first suspected. |
it was very odd i have to say, not a gradual back end letting go as i have seen before, it was so sudden and as he said he wasn't going quick or leaning it over miles as we are both pretty steady. |
Might be worth lodging a claim against the council, take some photos and try and collect up any of the salt if it's still there. You never know .... Lily pushing it home whilst you rode her bike - quality  |
i dunno about collecting the salt, i did offer to wander back over and pick up dzus and various other bits of debris :frog: he did come back to help me push it :) |
Nooooo Not the R. You poor man. I feel for you mate and have similar bruises ;) Hope it dont stop your track antics? |
