preped bikes?

so has anyone actually got a bike in race trim ready to go, race day is fast approaching and it seems some bits needed are hard to come by, who's worried who's not it's frustrating not being able to get out on it.

Rattler 15-Mar-2005 16:08

Mines ready to hit the track, but not race, I've got to sort out fairings, seat, bellypan etc......

I'm not too sure about the twin exhausts, so looking at a 2 into 1 system maybe...

Oh yeh - and I haven't even ridden it yet!!!

First outing is Good Friday, Fast group, Cadwell - sheeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!

Bring it on!!

I'm not too worried because the bike is scheduled to be finished by next Friday. The only things I haven't got sorted out (unless I've forgotten them) is some bodywork bits.

I'm frustrated because my 996 is off the road at the moment as well as having the monster away so I'm not riding at all. I intend on getting all that frustration out at Brands in two weeks whilst trying to learn Brands Indy, learn how the bike feels and making some adjustments and trying not to damage her because it leaves straight away for Spain so no time to fix it if I crash.

Other than that, it's all good.

dickieducati 15-Mar-2005 16:17

really just waiting for my can to arrive, then most of the other things can be done, oh and my front fairing.

NBs996 15-Mar-2005 16:22

The only thing left that I NEED is the bodywork. All of it!
Sigma should have the belly sorted soon, according to some recent posts. And Natty is sorting the inst cowl and seat.

There's other nice things to sort though... just been on the phone to Baines Racing, very helpful chap knew all about the series, and after a bit of discussion I've just left him a mini project.

Quietly confident that all will be ready in time, but only just, so let's hope nothing too rude happens at cadwell at the end of this month!

phoenix n max 15-Mar-2005 16:28

Just waiting for the Belly Pan and i've some lockwiring to do. Other than that we all on schedule here ;)

antonye 15-Mar-2005 16:34

Need to put mine back together!

Everything is waiting to be fitted, but I need to order chain & sprockets and then get an exhaust made up.

The fairing is all sitting there, but I need to bodge a catch-tray on then get it painted.

AK 15-Mar-2005 16:43

ours?

Frame on floor still!:o

Pistons apparently coming by end of the week.
Front forks due back Fri & rear shock Monday

All needing to be assembled, bodywork fitted & brackets made for bodywork.
Discs to be fitted, 2nd caliper to be sourced & fitted
Chain & one sprocket needed
Numbers to be made up yet & stuck on.

Got small bits of 'spares' - also got fire extinguisher too.

Looks like it might be together in a couple of weeks - then .....

the Zaust system is to be done...

ali 15-Mar-2005 17:04

Loads still to do! BB kit should be fitted by next Thursday. Bodywork is white at the moment, forks need re-working as does the shock, seat foam needed, mounting brackets for the seat unit, rearsets, oil change, running-in, change chain + rear sprocket, etc, etc, etc..... :o

Only half of this will get done before May 1st, so expect the worst prepared bike on track!

I thought they had an entry (unofficial or official)

More capacity Sir?

Have just been out to the garage to pick something up for tonight and realised that I haven't started on my race bike yet!

Engine needs to be stripped and gearbox rebuilt (that way I might get 2nd gear reliably) then try and get some miles on before we head off in May for 5 days in the mountains.

Then I sat back with a cup of tea and thought about why do I do all this work? Reason is for moments like the attached photo.

Some of you will recognise the scruffy bloke on the left as me, the guy on the right is Giuliano Maoggi the man from the famous photo at the start of the 1956 Motogiro D'Ialia with the fag hanging out of his mouth. It should be pointed out that he won the race that year when I was still in nappies!

Nice thing is that I now count him as a real friend. Perhaps that is one of the nice things about being a part of the Ducati family for all of us.

Besides getting it running and riding it, I have the bodywork to sort out as well as the suspension, brakes, instruments, bars, rearsets, lockwiring and a few other bits. so still a fair bit to do.

the old man 15-Mar-2005 17:31

I only got the bike on Saturday. So far have removed all street stuff. So that only leaves:
1. fibreglass - source it, fit it & paint it
2. rearsets
3. crash bungs
4. sprockets
5. exhausts
6. engine set-up
7. suspension set-up
8. brake hoses
9. brake pads
10 tyres

Then I need to ride it in anger and see which of the above need re-doing.

But I will be there when the red lights go out.

Why am I thinking that you're missing a Ferrari and Hawaiian shirt?

:frog:

Desmondo 15-Mar-2005 17:48

He wasn't saying a lot about the bike was already doing, gave me a few clues though! I got the impression Baines are supporting an entry rather than actually entering one if you see what I mean.
Does anyone want to own up :puzzled:

As for more capacity... sort of, but not what you're thinking - big bores on 620's are breaking them unwritten rools, and my bank manager wouldn't approve anyway!!!

Boys,

1) I am saving the Hawian shirt for Saturday evening, to match my sons taste in exotic cocktails. Elizabeth wont allow me a Ferrari yet, apparently no one needs 16 Ducatis, so an Italian car is out of the question!

2) I can confirm that the Baines brothers are preparing a 620 Sport for one of the entrants in the series. Also that following the rumours of last week we are sure that the bike will be fully legal and have about 5bhp above the std power level of other standard 620s (i.e. as delivered from the factory) that we have seen on the Dyno aready.

Whatever the score is with Baines, they were very helpful today... especially since they've got their own interest in the series.
I'd reccomend their services.

And Chris, nobody needs an excuse to have 16 Ducati's!!
