Nurbergring

A trip to the nurbergring, with a few of the boys, is on the list for the summer, anyone got any help, hints, pearls of wisdom, helpful websites etc etc?

reckon it's got to be done at some point. any idea if it's an extra insurance cover job?

beancounter 18-Mar-2005 12:06

The 'Ring is a public road so insurance should be ok.

DaveB916 18-Mar-2005 12:07

Hi,

Confessed all to my last 2 insurnace companies and they said although they were 'concerned' about it they would have to honour the insurance as it is effectively a public toll road and not a race track.

Anyone had any incidents/experience of such?

spinoli1 18-Mar-2005 14:05

Speak to Heather at Byrne-Up.

They go to the Ring about once every month and know everything. They are super-organised, mucho-friendly, provide free (good) instructors. Simon Byrne is a "Nurburgring God".

They can arrange all of your accomadation, passes etc., and will probably do a guided ride from Callais to the Ring (with luggage service) - I've been on many of their guided rides and they are a total blast.

Tell Heather that Spin sent you - I might get some discount on my bookings with them this year.

heather@byrne-up.co.uk

Best of luck and may see you there.

I'm there 8th to 11th July!!! :D:D

DaveB916 18-Mar-2005 14:27

Just looking at that weekend myself, I see it is open all day Sat and Sun.

doogalman 18-Mar-2005 19:24

Put the standard cans on. Even with db killers the bike will still be above their noise limit. It's so s%$t when you go and can't play. Don't go on a full weekend, it gets to busy ( it can get a bit hairy when too busy). I used to go for a long weekend and stay on for a weekday play (when it can be allmost empty) which is best for learning the track.

You have to do it,

Mav is definitely your man. Not going this year, been for the last two. I actually prefer the roads around the Ring to the Ring itself. Spending too much time at the Ring itself gets a bit boring - my humble opinion.

adam 19-Mar-2005 09:00

agree with Webby, the roads around the ring are fantastic. Do one lap of the ring just to experience it then have a ball riding the roads around it.

Webcore 19-Mar-2005 13:39

keep checking your mirrors
keep checking your mirrors
keep checking your mirrors

L3OONY 20-Mar-2005 11:06

So Frankie boy, finally fitted your new Termi's and the advice is to go on standard cans...

There really is no justice

Anyone know how serious they are at the Ring about noise?

Webcore 20-Mar-2005 20:31

they were pretty serious when i went - if your cans look non standard they'll pull you over and noise check you - after the gate so you lose your lap aswell even if you can change your cans.

i was lucky - i was staying with bren and suz at sliders guest house and bren had some standard duc cans

sliders is highly recommended - http://www.slidersguesthouse.com/

MarkyMark76 21-Mar-2005 10:25

I asked Mav the same question (about the noise) and he said it wasn't worth the risk. They were pulling up most V-twins and testing them. You fail, you don't get to play.

Standard cans are going back on for me... although a mate of mine was there two years ago on a 748R with 50mm cans and had no bother all weekend....

MarkyMark76 21-Mar-2005 10:28

The other thing about that weekend (8th to 11th July) is that there is a truck GP on the GP circuit so accomodation was already scarce when we got ours booked.

Frank 21-Mar-2005 10:43

oh brilliant...

...ya put ya termi's on (new)...ya put ya termis off ('ring)...ya put ya termi's on (summer)..ya put ya termi off (MOT)... all together now...on, off,on off shake it all about....

as we saying that every v-twin goes back to standard cans?

L3OONY 21-Mar-2005 15:30

Anyone tried the end can inserts that have been discussed on another thread?

Might be the answer if they get the Db down enough to get past the sphincter police?

I tried the inserts after being pulled of the ring. Failed the noise test. I had to get hold of some steel wool and tightly wrap it around the insert and wire wrap around the wool to back the noise of further. A lot of arseing around to get out. The down side is that the marshalls get to know who you are.
My vote goes for the standard cans. If all vehicles ran race pipes the ring would be forced to close for ever to the public.
