Brake Question Will the P4 calliper go straight on the 600ss fork leg and would the disk have to be changed.? cheers Phil. [Edited on 21-3-2005 by fil2] |

 I've got you worried haven't I ;) |
the P34s are all 65mm mounts as far as I know where as our older SS's have 40mm mounts. |

I promise to lose a bit more weight to make it easier for you. :) |
Single cast disc, original SS calliper, aeroquip hose and a later mastercylinder (standard production Brembo with the bleed nipple) as in the last pic posted in my Desmo Due Diary |
I've gone for twin disks up front as I managed to get a pair of forks, twin disks, twin calipers (40mm from a 916) and a 916 master cyclinder all for under £200 - that's without selling the original disk, caliper, m/cylinder and forks! I definitely think that the next step up in braking power is to go from a single to a twin disk, and then from that point to start worrying about radial m/cylinders, different calipers and the later, lighter brake disks. |
Phil not only does my budget rule out getting to flash in the braking department, although I could easily fit the Radial from my 916 or TL I see little point especially as my mates that have raced SuperMonos and a like will take the Pi55 out of me (yes Glyn that means you if you are reading this) |

A later OEM Brembo 320mm disk weighs a lot less than the original disks the SS bikes use. In terms of a percentage increase of the combined wheel, original brake and tyre this is very minimal, but the gain in braking power is substantial. As they say in racing, you need to be either on the gas or on the brakes - if you're not then you're not doing it right. |
i best get a different disc then or im gonna loose out i guess....... Phil |
I remember weighing my 916BP disc (same as 600SS) my 748RS disc and a SPS disc and found there was very little difference in weight. My wavey discs are no lighter either, the only discs I have that are noticeably lighter are my Spondon ones and they aren't allowed. |

thats good feedback kev..........so no real weight advantage in changing then Cheers Phil |
The later OEM Brembo 320mm disks are 1.88Kg I'll have to weigh an SS one and see what the difference is. But, as I said, in terms of total percentage compared to a complete wheel and tyre it's not a big increase. |

Those are R disks, but I guess there shouldn't be any difference other than offset? I was just going by the Brembo quoted weight rather than weighing them myself. |
http://217.199.188.40/xmb/viewthread...=5910#pid47853 few more weights here. I must put mine on the calibrated scales some time |
Here ya go Fil - these are what you need ... http://www.redracingparts.com/englis...iperbrembo.htm Only €860 EACH! Mind you, are these allowed in the rules? |

Ali has those already...............dammit...................... phil |
Is anyone going to be travelling fast enough to need brakes? You're only trying to stop a 150kg lump from 100mph if you're very lucky, you don't need MotoGP style stoppers. The CB500 had one disc, and weighed 180kg, and the brakes were plenty good enough to embarrass race reps on trackdays. If you really want to spend money, do extra races... that'll make you faster. 2p :biaggi: |
