Does oil have a \"sell by\" date Just wondering does oil that has been stored in the garage for a year have a sell by date? |
Doubt it, it's been under the ground for a couple of million/billion years in it's raw state |
couldn't exactly put that straight in the bike |
Does it not absorb moisture the same way as hydrobolic fluid. Re:under ground for millions of years: bottled spring water - millions of years old rain soaked through volcanic rock, kept flowing in deep subterranean streams and lakes for eons....best before September 2005. What's all that about then? |
I'd hope that fully synthetic oil HASN'T been under the ground at all! <hmmm ... smug mode> :smug: |

hehehe ... if I wasn't in smug mode before, I would be now :smug::smug::smug: Actually, the question made me go and try to find out exactly what synthetic oil is. Difficult to get answers of course, because the recipe will be a trade secret (of many different companies). Basically, it seems it is highly refined and "constructed" so that anything in it benefits the engine and the lubricating/protecting process. Mineral oil apparently has many components that are actually HARMFUL to your engine (doesn't mean you shouldn't USE it of course) [Edited on 22-3-2005 by HW] |
I can always 'edit' your post, then be even more smug than you! :smug:  |
