bhp

i see dave harris posted 51 bhp for his bike not sure what dave's running but is this what we should be expecting anyone else dynoed their bike.

domski 22-Mar-2005 20:21

That sounds like a 583 engine.

I know of a 58bhp bike, that's with standard pipes and a Big Bore.

I think 60-62 ish will be a good figure from a 620 or a sorted Big Bore.

the old man 22-Mar-2005 23:05

have heard of a standard 620 producing high 50's and would expect a well sorted one to be low 60's. would be surprised if a well sorted 583 with big bore can better this.

skidlids 23-Mar-2005 00:36

looks like i'll be about 6 to 10bhp down on a fair few of the entrants then. Still thats what you get when racing on a budget. So far my whole project has cost £40 more than the tuning work & parts on my GSXR600.

Ditto !

NBs996 23-Mar-2005 09:31

But can the figures be compared between bikes?
What's the variation between all the different dyno's used?

phoenix n max 23-Mar-2005 11:41

Not sure how much difference it will make Nick - I was out yesterday and I felt I had an advantage out of corners on my ickle 600 as I could twist the throttle hard and not worry about spinning the rear where as they were having to be careful on a damp track.
I guess it's true what you blokes say - It's not size (cc's) that matter it's how you use it ;)

DAVE HARRIS 24-Mar-2005 09:49

My bike has the big bore kit but had only run for about 20 minuites before the dyno run, fuelling is ok power curve is good and the torque curve is good It may be just a tight engine. When i have done some miles on it and a couple of races i will reasses the situation and will set the squish and dial in the cams if neccarsary!!

Not sure it matters really, you kinda get what you're given. You make what mods you deem fit or affordable to you and then line up. Power is a factor, but not as important as rider ability.

Was it Barry Sheene who said "When the flag drops, the bullshiit stops" ???

Bring it on!

Does the bhp really make that much difference?

I did a track day on saturday and spent most of my sessions dicing with a guy on a classic with approx 80bhp less than me.

OK, so he has raced the manx etc, but it goes to show that its 80% rider and 20% bike!!

Can we start a sweepstake on who will win?

LOL

Phil

fil2 24-Mar-2005 10:11

as a note torque is the key............AND i got shed loads of it..............

;)

Phil

Lily 24-Mar-2005 10:20

No-one ;)

fil2 24-Mar-2005 10:26

As Tim said ....the power and the bikes are all gonna be very close....its going to be rider skill, experience, race craft, knowing how to ride 55bhp bike and not a 130bhp bike, AND balls.................

Some have all the above and others have some of the above.....should be interesting.

TP 24-Mar-2005 10:29

So is my 76 rwbhp higher than average?

Could be a high reading dyno I suppose, how much can they vary?

As for the sweepstake...

If I were allowed to put some redies on it (of course we're not, under the Sporting Code!) then my bet goes on AK's bike.

You don't have enough cash to buy dog tags! How are you going to spare some for betting?

Or is this 'sponsors' money?

:ninja:

AK 24-Mar-2005 11:58

err... Nick - wouldnt think so mate - its STILL in bits!:(

Forks STILL not back

Pistons only just arrived in Somerset - and a fortnight turnaround before they come back

Jockey for first race hasnt been on a track for 6 years or so - having only done one season when he did try it...

Best to stop where I am.... or will just depress myself further:(

edited to add that we havent even started on the zaust system yet.............

[Edited on 24-3-2005 by CK and AK]

NBs996 24-Mar-2005 12:36

but ck... with yuor organisation and ak's spannering, my (sponsors) money is still on #36!

Well maybe not for Cadwell cos I'll be winning that one with his lordship a distant second :D

off to Cadders now for some practice!

Just make him walk a lap of track before race, he'll not even be able to stand .

he still weighs only 12 stone or so...not fat imho...plus as it stands he could get on the bike unfit and still beat all of us.......we are all battling for 2nd .......hehe..............Bring it..

you'll be towing plenty around.

I just typed up a response but ... suffice it to say that you guys have a lot more experience than I do on the track and at the tracks we're racing at. By doing what I'm doing I'm just trying to level out the playing field in a compressed timeframe.

We'll see how it goes .... but realistically I don't think I'm going to finishing before guys like you and Phil. If I do, I'll be very happy and give you loads of cr@p though ;)

TP 24-Mar-2005 16:19

Ooh, it picked up c r @ p and gave it a whoopsie ...!! Even with the @ !!!

why me...........i have no more experience than you....in fact i have less...i have done none of the " schools " that are so popular............

If i finish m8 with bike intact then im bloody happy......as for beating anyone, the only person i have to beat is the bank manager..............
