Trading places I've decded after consulting with my mentor ( Rattler). I'm no longer gong to put the 996R on the track. She wll be left for DSC td's only and a bit of road riding. I'm stll not too sure what I want for the track, but my short list is a CBR600RR. What you think WJB |
Good weapon choice sir !!!,ex Karl harris,of course, jon ??? :sing: |
748RS ? |
In my dreams Simon. That is unless you know of one gong serousley cheap. TP I've thought about a 748/r/sps. But I 'm more likely to start putting expensive blng bits on it again and thats the reason why I'm keeping the R off. Cartagena was very expensive in terms of repair damage. Didn't look much while covered in mud, but the bloody place doesn't have run offs, more like stone chip offs [Edited on 27-3-2005 by Jon] |
If you wanted to stay in the fold I'd say a 748 of some description would be the way to go for a track bike. If you can resist blinging it of course ... Otherwise a supersport 600 would be a nice cheap track bike. I was mulling this over and I reckon I'd go for a ZX636. Plenty of bodywork around for them etc and well over 100 horsies standard. Probably more bits and pieces cheaper for the GSX-R's, R6's and CBR's though. |
Looked a kwak 636's. They don't do it for me, same wth the R6. I do like the look of the cbr though |
Jon, if you decide to go down the route of the CBR600RR, I know somebody selling a very nice track prepped one. Let me know if you're interested. |
Jon Having experienced Rattler's appreciation of the R6 I am surprised you would consider this as an option. Not that I am biased at all, but if you went for a later model 748r or rs then you would have mosty of the trick bits you need anyway. prices for anything else are coming down and ebay is your friend! I have my r up for sale and I am thinking about the best way to sell it. If you are interested in it as a track bike we could come to an arrangement... u2u me :D |
Now that Lily has posted, I'm bound to say 'buy hers' or I'll be in trouble. I sold my 748 and have emotionally regretted it ever since, but then logically, there is no contest. Now I have the RR, I'm in love - she's a real beauty and the sound with my full Arrow system is superb. Power is enough for me (checkout 600 vs powerbikes times at most circuits and there is a second or two in it - not enough to make any difference to your riding or mine), so plenty of power. The handling is the best bit though, very light and turns in quickly although mine has Ohlins in the forks, damper and shock, plus set up by KTec. Once I learn to ride it, I will be a lot quicker on it than on my 748. Do I stop for a little look every time I open the garage door? Well sadly, or otherwise, yes I do, it's not in the 748/9** icon mould, but it's still a beautifully put together machine. You'll get a road minger from about £4500, but a sorted track one starts about £6k+ There is a guy in Yorkshire buying them new and converting straight to race/track, he's regularly on motoforum.net WeeJohnyB |
and you could have a nice trick 748r for less than that ;) |
I think Simon Knowlson still has his Ex Xaus DFX 748RS for sale at a decent price, saying that its still hell of a lot more than my tuned 2002 GSXR600K2, 116bhp race bike. £3200 with spare wheels and discs. |
doesn't the rs need a lot more maintenance than either a standard r or a jap bike? I have mates who have 996/8 rs and they have pretty high maintenance schedules. |
The CBR600RR I mentioned above is up for sale at £5k. |
so what do we class as track prepped? |
A Gixxer 750 would be a great track bike IMO. I guess it would come down to price in the end, but if it didn't I'd have a 748RS every time. Or a 998Rs ;) |

You could always sell that banana and get that 620 for sale on here, not a bad price, and do DD. YKIMS! |

Yes I saw that, amusing choice of clutch too!!! :frog: |
So Weeksy which clutch did you get, how much do they normally sell for and do they do one for a ZX10R |
Kev, Sigma Performance jobby, give Neil Spalding a call as he's a mate to the DSC and he'll cut you a deal as you're more than capable of fitting it yourself ... www.sigmaperformance.co.uk |

The standard slipper on my ZX10 seemed to perform well - is an upgrade required? Tim:ninja: |
Quote:
probably not but if its available I reckon you'll be buying it ..... |
Quote:
Nope - the ZX is going back to standard and fully road legal!!! Yep that's right - the Rattler will be back on the road this year!!!! That and I need a road-legal bike for my outing at Castle Combe in May!!! Tim:ninja: |

Track-day prepped would be more accurate. WSS spec it ain't !!! :burn: Immaculate 2003 CBR600RR, stripped of all road gear, trackday bodywork, professionally painted in Honda colours, only 500 road miles + 2 track days (genuine), CRG leavers, braided lines, Sprint Damper, HRC rearsets, carbon engine case covers, Acroprovic exhaust, new DID Chain, new Renthal sprockets + some spares (WOW's I think). If anybody's interested, U2U & I'll reply with some contact details. |
Sounds a bargain? WeeJohnyB |

Jon If its a 600rr you really want there is one advertised on visordown in the for sale section for £4500 including a trailer(with V5 i believe),posted under the name of Justice,he dont live far from you either. HTH |
Jon, if you really want a track bike get a GP250, they are like nothing else-ask WJB. John |

depends Tim Get down to Pembrey and let me know how it feels when your doing 1min 06sec laps with the snow falling on treaded tyres and trying to get into the 1'05s The speed at which Dallas's ZX10R was coming down the start/finish straight I'm suprised he managed to slow down and get around the hairpin let alone knock it down several gears. |
so, given a choice which would most go for? Not on the hard sell here, just interested in whether i would be better targetting the 748r as a track bike rather than road? a track prepared rr as above which does sound very tasty or a 2002 748r in track trim with full ohlins, new renthal carrier, sprockets, chain etc, slipper |

I'll take that as a no then !!! ;) |
Crikey!!!!!!!!!! so much happening in such a short time. Thanks everyone for their imput and advice. I had got a yearning for a CBR600RR. Seeing WJB's at caddie on friday only made my choice much easier. I'd thought about a screamng 250 / 400. I'd also gave a R1 10sec's of thought, closely followed by a millisecond for a ZX10:P I think I have a good deal with the bike I have bought, Just hope it meets with my expectations. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...ayphotohosting |
Jon, Thats very very nice ..... |
Fantastic fella - that's a bit decisive for you aint it? Blimey !!!! You've just gotta get some Dymag wheels, brembo m/cyl, quickshifter, V5 etc, etc....and you'll be fine ;) Good choice mate - I look forward to seeing it hooning around real soon!!! Tim:ninja: |
Jon, it's ... it's .... it's yellow!!!! |
Tim it already has dymags/ quickshifter. I will let you know about the radial lever. |
My favorite colour TP |
