Changing clutch
 

Hello:)

At last the spring is coming to Norway, so now its possible to ride my duc here:D

Found out in the winter that my cluch was worn out, so now I`ve ordered new Clutch plates and are ready to change em... The thing is...how?....:puzzled:
I was wondering is any of u guys have a link to a page with some guidance how to do it?
Btw...I got a 2001 748R Red of course....;)

oh, thats easy ....

take off the clutch cover.

undo the six bolts holding the springs on.

take out bolts, springs and caps.

Gently pull the pressure plate out and the pushrod will come with it.

You can then remove the plates.

Put new plates in (ensuring they are in the right order of plain and friction plates)

Then put it all back together.

About half hours work.

Guess I`ll try to change it tomorrow. I was abit afraid that some springs or something would come out and be a pain in the a** to get back if not done the right way.

no, it really is that simple, even i've done it .....

Pretty much as Dibs has said, just make sure you put everything back in in the same order you removed them. You should keep all the steel plates in order and note where the indented tab is on each steel plate etc also.

If you have a digicam might be worth snapping as each plate is removed, might be over kill but if you're unsure it's better safe than sorry

oh and when you put the pressure plate on make sure the notched hole lines up with the arrow .. it will all make sense as you take it to bits ...

One more thing I wonder about.... How tight shall the screws with the springs be fastened approx? And Locktight etc?

I've never loctited the bolts on the springs, the force pushing on them via the spring keeps them in place. As for torque settings someone will come along with the exact figure, me being a luddite I just tighten them pinch tight and never had a problem.

do not loctite the clutch spring bolts, just torque them up solidly by hand .. overtightening isn't needed.

And, worse than that, you can shear the "turrets" off if you overtighten them.

Does the 748R have the convexed plate that has to go in the right way round or it eats the clutch?

Now its done, and it was no problem at all:sing: Everything works perfect, and like u said... about 30min work:)

There was a few things I noticed...

1. The basket had some scars on it... Does that mean that I have to change that too?
2.I noticed that the "smooth" rings had a gap on the "outside". Shall these be aligned or something?
