Running on one pot

Anyone ever had there bike go on to one pot and the engine management light come on,mines been doing it today :(

The bikes not got wet or anything but it runs on one pot for a couple of miles then back onto two...Its done it around 5 times on the way back from Devils and now its back home ( i mean ducati Leeds) :D

KeefyB 02-Apr-2005 19:44

Sounds like a dodgy coil.Which pot is missfiring?

JPM 02-Apr-2005 20:03

Sounds exactly like mine, currently waiting for new coils under warranty

Is it an R perchance?

Dementor 02-Apr-2005 20:07

Had this on my Bip, front pot, coil & plug gets crappy, would get it sorted before it goes completely, it's no fun riding with one cylinder:(

You wanna try doing a track day on 1 cylinder...

Real McCoy 02-Apr-2005 20:45

Did your engine management lights come on aswell...dont know which cylinder it was as i was rushing back to Ducati before they shut, didnt get chance to feel the pipes

my engine management light comes on when i start bike and wont go off till i pull away, also comes on if i slow down or stop at lights, is this normal?? its done it since i picked it up. Hope yours gets sorted Karl.

Real McCoy 02-Apr-2005 23:46

Mines never done that gizmo :(

weeian 03-Apr-2005 00:02

mines does that as well gizmo, someone told me that it was normal and that it was running diagnostics or sumthin, it only does it when im sitting at lights waiting to go, when i pull away it turns off.

Most people think mine is running on one cylinder when I'm on the track:lol:

I'll check it at first service, read the book last night and it will come on according to engine temp, maybe sensor needs air flow of bike moving to cool it down? First time it happened was wheni picked bike up and pulled away from Devils on my way home. Didnt like to look a real tw'at and stop and get book out of me bag, luckily it went off as i pulled away :)

JPM 03-Apr-2005 19:51

My engine management light came on and stayed on. Let the bike cool down fired up OK, light off, soon as it gets hot, 1 cylinder and lights comes on..

Real McCoy 03-Apr-2005 20:14

sounds about the same, which pot was it ?

weeian 04-Apr-2005 00:12

how can u tell what pot? have a feel?

/ian

JPM 04-Apr-2005 12:38

It was the rear cylinder on mine, pretty simple to check one exhaust pipe won't be pushing any exhaust fumes out

Real McCoy 04-Apr-2005 16:56

looks like it was the front pot, new coill + plug thankyou :P

guest1 04-Apr-2005 17:26

Digi dum dum dum - another one bites the dust.

How many more running intermittently on one pot????

Like JPM says, check exhaust fumes, or check exhaust pipe temperatures (soon after starting from cold), or smell exhaust fumes (not recommended for too long).

Rule of thumb is that if it says 999 on any of your panels, then likelihood is it is running on one pot.

JPM - to be truthful - you didn't actually do a track day on one pot did you? Just short of one lap as I recall.

McCoy - what year bike is it? mines an 03 and I've had it back into dealer twice previously with this fault. Each time it ran great after but this time it's do or die I think.

JPM 04-Apr-2005 17:29

I nearly completed one lap!!:P

Glad that's got yours fixed, I'm still waiting to hear if that's the fix for mine, need to pick it up this week, or know by the 7th so I can cancel another track day and hopefully get a cover note/refund

Real McCoy 04-Apr-2005 17:42

yep mines an 03 too :sniff:

guest1 04-Apr-2005 18:00

Unlucky McCoy.

It's just not funny anymore.

Has anyone had an 05/04 with similar problems?

Is there a central register for all these probs at DUK, and if so, what's happening?

guest1 04-Apr-2005 18:05

Y'cheeky monkey:lol::lol::lol:

I can just imagine a future post in this forum:

I've got a 999 thats running consistently on two pots and the amber light hasn't come on for ages. What's wrong with it?

JPM 04-Apr-2005 18:08

Well mine's an 04...

guest1 04-Apr-2005 18:10

Is it too early for 05's to exhibit the same behaviour. Mine's done less than 4K miles, and I'm sure that JPM was a very low mileage?

JPM 04-Apr-2005 18:10

low mileage....

Mine's done less than 200 miles, that low enough?

My engine management light was on first time I restarted bike after picking it up from dealers, beat that :) On second thoughts maybe its a bit crazy, 10K for a bike which brand new is already has its quirks, bring back me ultra reliable SP2

Real McCoy 04-Apr-2005 18:44

2 cracked rear subrames
1 new set of clocks
2 brand new ohlins forks
1 battery
2 ground out sump plugs
1 new coil
1 new clutch

4000 miles, beat that

guest1 04-Apr-2005 18:46

If it was a horse it'd be in the knackers yard by now.
Ever get the feeling you've been sold a lemon?

JPM 04-Apr-2005 18:50

But when he comes to sell it he can say the majority of it's part are brand new!

Real McCoy 04-Apr-2005 18:51

ducati Leeds have given me my own key , bless em

did get offered a muilti numpti to use but didnt bother, and i gave up a spanking gixxer 1000, imagine what i could have done pumping 10k into that :o

guest1 04-Apr-2005 19:02

Rumour has it, that the next Ducati superbike will be called the
senza senso spinterogeno 00800-33228877
with the number being the assistance number so at least you've always got it to hand.:D

dave w 04-Apr-2005 19:26

04 R ...No problems with plugs and coils, Just a few oil leaks and some poor lacquer peeling on the tank  Had no such drama's with my old 999s :puzzled:
