melting boots

as summers coming and im starting to throw the 748 around my new boots are starting to melt on the inside of the right boot from melting on the exhaust feeder pipe, so far the velcro's gone and its worn a way a bit of the plastic. is there anything i can fit to stop this

will add a photo later on

Mr_S 03-Apr-2005 01:26

You still got the heatshield and heelguards as in this pic of yours?

http://www.bikerboys.co.uk/images/748ENGINE2.JPG

If you have, where exactly's the boot melting onto the pipe?

deej 03-Apr-2005 19:21

its melting above left of the carbon guard thats already there, on the horizontal pipe

the link pipe is a 45 - 50mm conversion and i dont think the carbon comes off

heres a quick photo for you

i think it must be something to do with the fact i ride with the ball of my foot on the pegs and the way i hang off the bike may have something to do with it too

Nigel C 03-Apr-2005 21:05

thats odd! i ride with the balls of my feet on the pegs same size pipes but my boots wear on the heel plates nowhere near where your boots are touching !!

Brent 03-Apr-2005 21:18

I'm "on the balls" - Same as you and Nigel (but std pipes) - Size 15 boots??:D

deej 03-Apr-2005 21:27

just size 11's

as i say it may be happening when im banked over as i do prefer lefts to rights, the first day i noticed it i had been flying and had been round 1 corner about 30mph than ever before, knee was down and inside of leg was touching the fairing, i nearly shat meself at that point to be honest

nothing to put there to stop it then ??????

keefer 03-Apr-2005 21:30

I cant believe you are burning your boots up there, But the pic is not lying.
so there is another set up that would help,

Mr_S 03-Apr-2005 21:34

yep, SP heatshield required.

deej 03-Apr-2005 22:06

you should see the state of the boot, the velcro's melted the outer liners gling and even the plastic was starting to get warm

is ebay the best place for 1 of them and will they fit 50mm pipes ???

cheers for your help so far

Mr_S 03-Apr-2005 22:51

Try ebay or ripsnortin

http://www.btinternet.com/~ripsnortingtwin/

you'll need some bracketry to fit it as well.

Looking at the pic of your bike. I see you have the oil weeping from your engine breather as well!!;) In the same place as my 748. Perhaps I am being fussy and worrying for nothing. Perhaps its a case of " They all do that sir"

Harv748 04-Apr-2005 01:14

It brings water to my eyes because its my old bike:o

Mr_S 04-Apr-2005 12:15

Deej, do you have those Alpinestar boots that have a massive fin on the back, and also hang off like a ba$tard in the bends?

Just wondering, as I've tried to get my boot (Daytona Evo GTX) to touch there and I need to get both cheeks off the other side of the seat before it's even close.

Rattler 04-Apr-2005 12:37

Just get the SPS exhaust guard. You can also get the jubilee type straps with the bolt mount points in and you're sorted.

It must have been a problem for others, otherwise they would have put a larger protector on the later bikes.

I had that problem for a few days, the SP guard sorts it though.

deej 05-Apr-2005 23:00

sorry harv but it has to get wet these days as some scumbag nicked my battered old pub car so its doing a 45mile round trip to work each day and that muck was only 3 days worth

all the bloody roads down here are covered in farm crap and rain water at the moment, as much as i enjoy riding to work im hoping the cheque arrives soon so i can get another car and save the washing/polishing every week

mr s i suppose i do hang off a fair bit but i am 6foot tall so have the legs to reach the ground without moving both arse cheeks off.
i have the spidi xpd 5 boots and although they do have a fin its the velcro on the inside of the boots thats melted the most, when i remember i will take a photo of the boot for your curiosity

hey weeksy see you in louigimoto on saturday, im getting my belts done so shes ready for my stag trip to le mans.

deej 05-Apr-2005 23:03

harv and dsee that was actually taken after our local easter egg run, started off brillaint weather and turned into the worst rain ive ever driven/ridden in and we were 35 miles form home so just carried on regardless, she'll wash off

calm down harv

chris99 06-Apr-2005 09:33

deej 07-Apr-2005 19:48
