Tank Scratches Anyone have suggestions on how to avoid tank scratches on a 749. Ive got the Dark version, so any tiny little mark shows up like Ive taken a maschete to it. Ive seen some retro fit ducati original tank protector, cut in the middle and 'stretched' across the standard one. Have heard of these thin plastic stick on sheets you can have also (but one be visible on mine as its matte). ... and no... im not on par with vanessa feltz before you mention it ;);) Its the bit underneath the current protector where my legs rub against it, and slightly above too. God. Maybe I do need to diet. *puts down the last of the easter eggs* |
get a carbon one and stick it on using black silicone. WFM |
Sonic - Same problem mate. Think I need to go on a diet |
andyb, would still be the same though wouldnt it? The replacement carbon item still only covers the same area as the standard one. I need to cover more bits so just wondered if there was a way. Ill try to find the picture from MCN site to show you what this guy has done... |
I know this is going to sound stupid, but sit a bit further back in the seat. You should have a gap about as wide as a packet of 20 fags between the family jewels & the tank. The shape of the seat makes more sense & it's a lot more comfortable because it doesn't dig into the underside of your thigh (although it does put more weight on your wrists). |

I've found of I sit that bit further back its a greater distance to travel to knock the jewels when you go over a good bump and it hurts more :( As for the tank protection I've stuck a couple of those dot type tank protectors underneath the factory protector and put a motograffix tank pad above. |

:lol::lol::lol: At least it doesn't scratch the tank though!! |
trickz, dont suppose you have a piccie of it do you (not that I wanna nick your idea or anything ;) ;) ;) Ive tried sitting further back, at all different angles etc but still tends to stratch it... if you sit further back, your gonna end up forwards when you brake anyway, so if anything, its gonna stratch more when you 'fly' towards the ball breaker. Heres what someone did on the MCN site... [Edited on 5-4-2005 by sonic] |
Sonic....have a look at this link:- http://www.tankpads.com/productsbycat.asp?cat=00&sub=12 It's the best solution I've seen |
well bugger me, they make one, cheers Wylie! |
Yep - I bought the Ducati Corse Carbon tank pad and cut it to fit. Does the job nicely - you can obtain them from your local Ducati dealer |

Mine is almost Identical to the pic you showed from MCN. I got the carbon look pad from tankpads.com. Not got a picture at the moment as I only put it on this weekend. I'll get a pic at the weekend if you still want one. [Edited on 5-4-2005 by trickz] |
If its pretty much like the picture thats ok, thanks for offering though, think Ill do the same, getting pretty marked up now and on the matte black it shows up like a bugger. Thanks all for the advice! |
