Suspension set up

Is there anywhere on-line to get a good set up guide?

Ie: tips for weight of rider, Fast road/track use etc.

you know the sort of thing, if you`re 15 stone, using it on Track, 5clicks here, 4 turns there.

that sorta thing?

TIA :)

Loads of threads on this subject, use the search facilty.
Suspension set-up is a personal thing imo, what works for someone else may not work for you.
Happy twiddling!:)

To get mine sorted I booked a trackday with 100% Bikes who have an Ohlins technician available.

You book him in advance - I think it's £40 for the day this year - and you then get to use his services throughout the day.

He takes your current settings (as a reference) and then makes some recommendations on what it should be set to.

You go out and try them, then go back and tell him what you think and he adjusts as necessary.

As long as you can describe what the bike is doing, and whether you like it or not, it's a really cheap way of getting the bike setup for you.

While you can get advice on settings and the like, if you don't particularly like what it does it can be very difficult to adjust it without really knowing what you're doing, and this is where the technician comes in.

For £40 it's an absolute bargain and there's no better place to test it than on a trackday where you can do the same corners over and over again to compare setting.

100% Bikes can be found at http://www.100pc.co.uk/

or go see Steve Jordan at www.stevejordanmotorcycles.co.uk , they are near Box Hill and he is a fully trained Ohlins techie and does an awful lot of set-up work for the BEMSEE racers .. if you call them speak to either sarah (his wife) or Steve directly and he'll twiddle yer knobs for a small fee ...

I found this site helpfull

If you have Ohlins, then the base line setting are http://www.ohlins.com/pdf/mounting_i...ions/du421.pdf

Your weight only really effects the sping rate for that http://home.san.rr.com/shazaam/Ohlins_Springs.pdf
credit goes to Shazaam for that one.

But as has been said above suspension is such a personal thing, but this at least gets you a starting point, somewhere to go back to if you fusk it all up!

i found one of the most important thing is setting the sag on the rear to your weight before you start tinkering too much.

the measurement will depend on what sort of riding you do, ive set mine at 32mm (ohlins) mono sping rating ( i think thats a 5.5)

finding out the reccomended setting would be a good starting point.

then start twiddleing there are many threads on suspension set up and many people to be recommended,

...or http://www.sportrider.com/bikes/146_susp_settings/

I just wait until my bum cheeks clear the tarmac and work out the sag from that.... (similar to Dibble on an RVF (lol):D:D:D

If you are coming to brands on July 4th, we will have a suspension set-up technician available on the day. Although I don’t know him, he comes highly recommended by both Supersport and Superbike (BSB) riders.

For a small charge he will check out the operation of the suspension suggest settings dependent on your weight and style of riding and personal preference. The fee includes his advice throughout the day, so if you require fine tuning or even for him to take the bike out for a couple of laps it all included in the price.

I will post more details later

thanks guys

the go star racing site is very "in-depth" :smug:

I`m at rocky CSS on Monday, they may have a tech there.

Its a setup

:eureka:
I'm organising a suspension setup session with Francis Williamson for Sussex DSC late April/Early May. If anybody else is interested in coming along please let me know. ;)

Here's some good info.

Mr_S 07-Apr-2005 20:50

Just remember that section 8's ride height settings are for mono subframes, if you've got a bip or bip subframe their ride height measurements too much....

doogalman 07-Apr-2005 22:17

Anyone have a figure for the ride height on a Biposto?? Just as a base- line.

Doogalman

Mr_S 07-Apr-2005 22:50

Mine's at 570mm, and that's slightly higher than stock would be by about 5mm.

To set yourself a baseline to work from the ride height adjuster should be 261mm between eye centres (pain to measure on the bike)

This should give you a reference to start from. But take a look at this thread and get your name down for a ride height tool to do it properly :)

When I got my 996s a few years back Trevor Franklin had one on a long term test when he wrote for performance bike. He set the suspension up to suit his weight which is near enough the same as mine. I copied his settings exactly and the bike was 100% better. I will try to find the article (think its with the hundreds of bike and car mags in my loft) I remember it involved raising the rear ride height by quite a bit as I recall if I parked my bike next to another 996 it was noticably higher at the rear. I think he also ended up fitting a different rate spring. I cannot remember the exact settings but I remember my thinking went from being unsure if I had done the right thing buying the bike to knowing I had done the right thing after one good rideout.

haggizbasher 09-Apr-2005 10:30

Check out this website....it'll give you something to work with. Carried out by Performance Bike....
