Clutch I changed my slave cyclinder on my ducati and it wont diss-engauge the clutch. What sizes are the two push rod lengths ???. If its not that any other ideas what it might be |
Needs bleeding perhaps? Slightest bit of air in it and it won't disengage. |
ill do it again but i think its free from air |
If it's a bigger bore slave cylinder to cut down force needed at the lever, the lever still pushes the same amount of fluid but in a larger bore so consequently not pushing the pushrod as far as it was before. Or it could be air trapped in the system |
its one that i got from ducati shed but he has Been A total W@*ker and refuses to help with it. It is a bigger bore save cyclinder. |
Had the same on my old 916, turned out the bit that the pushrod hits on the clutch plate was seized (bearing type thing) and when the clutch was pulled in, it in turn started to spin the rod, and in turn spun the slave piston and locked it into place. slacken off the 3 bolts on the slave slightly, or you will have to release the slave cyl manually |
Sounds like you have the wrong pushrod. After Ducati changed the standard clutch slave (2001?) they also needed to change the pushrod for (if memory serves) a longer one. Anyway, I know that if you want to fit the latter type slave to an early bike you also need to change the pushrod. My guess is your new slave is going to need the new type pushrod. |
The pushrods on the later bikes are 10mm longer. The STM cylinders for instance come with a 10mm spacer which is dropped in to the piston before being fitted if required. you could knock something up easy enough. The rod diameter is 8mm. Get some 8mm rod, or even a 8mm bolt and cut a 10mm length off, slip it in the piston and try that. A tip though, cut it from ferrous so you can pull it out if needed with a magnet ;) |

Hello Festa748 I am having the same problems with my clutch, although slightly different in respect that every time I bleed the master cylinder all is fine until I am out and about, then I losses all clutch leaver action. I have replaced the orignal master cylinder with an oversized one, (Evoluzione one) and checked the length of the pushrod, bleed the clutch many times with the same problem coming back (loss of leaver) but no sign of leaking oil? So I have checked the bearing on clutch basket and it was not running freely, I guess it gets clogged with clutch dust. the movement when you engaged the clutch lever, on the basket on my bike is about 5 millimeters. And have been advised that this is about right. (thanks PeteB) I have tried both the shorter and longer pushrods in my 2001yr engine and found that the pushrod lenght was shorter on pre 2001yr bikes to the slightly longer one. Which I find better although I have not ruled out Nelly's suggestion "The STM cylinders for instance come with a 10mm spacer which is dropped in to the piston before being fitted if required." I got one from this tosser too, a year or so ago Mine was the same and i ended up binning the thing after the tosser wouldnt admit it was the wrong slave cylinder |
yep same as what he said to me, it is his fault he was moaning saying i said my bike was the older model and he sent that kit to me. What he didnt realise i have a 2000 model and required the newer model slave cylinder . What an arse hole and strngly advise anyone from using him. Shame as i wanted some other stuff from him too but i'm not gonna now. |
