Ok, now i\'m confused???

On other bikes i've had when you want to lock the steering with the key you either can lock it to both sides or you can only lock it with the steering to the left.
But on my 999R i can only lock it if i turn the steering fully to the right.
I found that strange so i checked on the owners manual and it says it lock to the left, so now i'm like WTF!!! :puzzled:

Is that normal?
JPM, Dave W, how does it work on yours?

dickieducati 07-Apr-2005 10:56

you may have a left hand drive model.

UKRR 07-Apr-2005 10:56

I have a 749R which will lock when the steering is turned to the left....haven't tried the right yet but will do so immediately

That would be  since i'm left handed :D

Mad Dog Bianchi 07-Apr-2005 11:13

Sounds like an upside down yoke...

Steve M 07-Apr-2005 11:19

dont worry ducnow, if they are like the 916 series bikes and if I remember right, the steering lock doesn't work at all on the steep head angle.

:o You serious ?? Well..... since it's a Ducati nothing can be excluded.

But this doesn't look like an upside down yoke, does it?
If a yoke is what i'm thinking.........

:puzzled:

So, you couldn't lock the bike?

no

yellowisfriedegg 07-Apr-2005 12:49

Now what is strange is that your 749R does not have a 749R tank but a standard one , why is that then ? :puzzled:

JPM 07-Apr-2005 12:54

Isn't it an 04 999R?

dickieducati 07-Apr-2005 12:54

because its a 999r

Ducnow 07-Apr-2005 13:29

Yes, it's a 999R.

I still don't know why it only locks to the right :puzzled:

JPM, does your 999R locks to both sides?

Murray Mint 07-Apr-2005 14:05

You need to check that the lockstop is not bent, this happened to my bike after i droped it. The lockstop is welded into the frame is mot very robust, Pete at Pro V's just bent it back but be carefull when bending it back.

UKRR 07-Apr-2005 14:11

To confirm

Just checked my 749R and it lock on both the left and the right.

nathanhu 07-Apr-2005 14:14

er i think youŽll find its just badly made like the one on my old 999s,
it would only lock on one side aswell

Mine locks both ways :D You must have a bent one:D

I personally think that you lock stops need to be adjusted ;)

Ducnow 07-Apr-2005 16:34

Thank to all for checking and giving advice.

I call my dealer and he said..... "errr..... it's a Ducati it happens sometimes...." :D
They'll check it out when i go there for first service.

I'll check the lock stop to see if it's from there.

Are the lock stops supposed to be ajusted, or if it's not working right it means it's bent?

Real McCoy 07-Apr-2005 16:39

welcome to Ducati land , read the "running on one pot " thread for an insight into whats lurking round the corner waiting for you :(

Any news on your bike?

Real McCoy 07-Apr-2005 17:08

Faulty coil, ready to collect and wait for next mishap :puzzled:

Murray Mint 07-Apr-2005 17:54

There are adjusters for the lock settings, could be that your machine was not correctly setup when it left the dealers.

It's a Ducati, so it could be......

dave w 07-Apr-2005 18:21
