Donnington GP 2005

When you buy a ticket for the GP, do you need a special pass to go round the paddock, I have a feeling you do, how much extra are these? Do the DSC do them?

sparkin 09-Apr-2005 22:37

Don`t think you can get a pit/paddock pass for MotoGp,you have to get a "Village" ticket and they`re about 300odd quid and I`m not quite sure how much access they give you either.I think the only time you can get in there is on the Thursday Riders for health day.You can get into WSB a lot easier, especially Assen.

Walenut 10-Apr-2005 09:57

I'm not going this year it was absolute chaos last year trying to get out, well over an hour, on a bike! It was also difficult to see and get a good pitch as there where so many people there.

Walenut 10-Apr-2005 09:59

I shall probably have a ride up for the riders for health day though that looked pretty good last year.

adam 10-Apr-2005 10:07

On the riders for Health Day, do you get to mix with the riders?

Dibble 10-Apr-2005 10:38

I doubt it mate, getting a BJ off Madonna would be easier ...............

neilkeogh 11-Apr-2005 09:39

Wasn't he the little bloke who played for Argentina??;)

antonye 11-Apr-2005 10:42

The best thing to do is get your membership to the DSC in right now, and make sure you keep your eyes on the board!

Every year the club gets allocated a number of tickets to a "Meet the Team" evening at the MotoGP round (as well as the two World Superbike rounds) and these are drawn at random from the hat, from all members who put in to go.

It happens on the thursday night before the race, and you meet up in the hospitality unit (or the naff cafe if it's Donington!) and the team join you for dinner. Lots of opportunity to get stuff signed, chat, have pictures taken and so on. After this, there follows the usual DSC invasion of the paddock.

Last year there was a nominal cost for the meal (£15 I think) but it's basically a priceless event, and one you won't get to unless you're a member of the club proper and not just the message board.

If you want tickets for the actual race, again these can be purchased through the club on the special Ducati UK offer which has run for the last couple of years. The cost is a couple of quid over the face price of the ticket, but the goodie bag last year included a hat, t-shirt and some other bits & pieces along with neck strap for your pass to get into the exclusive Ducati trackside viewing area. This means that not only do you get an exceptional view of the race but that you're not fighting for somewhere to sit. There was also a raffle last year to win some great prizes, along with free soft drinks all day too.

I'm sure that all of the details will be released later on once Ducati UK have got their details, and so on. I know it got incredibly close to the actual race weekend last year and it was a mad rush to send off cheques and everything!

If you have a look back through the board or do a search you will find some of last year's threads about it and pictures too.

Just another great reason to join the club!

The mailout to members with all the information on these events will be going out in the next couple of weeks-so if you're not a paid up member you won't even get to know-now that's what you call a clique.;)

Adam,

The VIP Village tickets will only get you a 'Pit Lane Walk' which is a heavily marshalled stroll up the pit lane whilst most of the garages are closed and none of the major riders are around. The VIP Village at Donnington is a pretty poor place to watch the race really as well, being on the inside of a corner (other GP's have a much better location, Mugello for example is above the pits). I'd save your money if I was you.

Paddock passes are allegedly not for sale and can only be gained by knowing someone with access - sponsors, race teams, Dorna etc.

adam 11-Apr-2005 18:04

All im after is getting some of my minichamps signed, thats all. Sad I know but if I go into collecting things then it means more to me if they have that little extra. Oh well.

Dibble 11-Apr-2005 18:04

i'll sign it ....

adam 11-Apr-2005 18:21

Dibble V sign:D

HW 12-Apr-2005 01:08

I feel sure the last time I was at Donnington there was a price of £5 extra for a paddock pass. That was at BSB last year though so maybe that is different? Did I dream that?

KeefyB 12-Apr-2005 07:29

No,that would just be for the BSB.There is NO public access to the paddock on GP weekend. It would be easier to get in to the Bank of Englands bullion vault.
Adam,if you need owt signing,ie Rossi, then you best bet is either the day of Champs or the GP preview thing they do in Landon Tarn.Be prepared to queue tho, everyone wants a peice of him and he gets mobbed wherever he goes.

adam 12-Apr-2005 17:39

Keefy any idea when day of champs/GP preview is? Good idea of yours though.

antonye 12-Apr-2005 17:42

Day of Champions is always the thursday before the race - the same day as the DSC "Meet the Team" night.

KeefyB 12-Apr-2005 18:12

Yep,Day of Champions is usually on the thursday before the GP.I think the MotoGP preview/promotional thing is on the tuesday or wednesday before.Usually held in Leicester Sq.
Keep an eye out for the dates in MCN.

adam 12-Apr-2005 21:28

thanks guys.

V2 PETE 13-Apr-2005 00:08

the day of champs is a very good day , but becoming very popular
your in the track for a tenner and get to meet most of the riders as they do their thing , but some do hide out of the way because its packed .
i did the ride in on the track last year , but was wet ! fun in the dry !
the auction in the evening is good because of the gear thats up for auction and the money goes to charity and all the main riders attend !
overall a cracking day out !!!

Ray 13-Apr-2005 17:51

Day of Champs was great day out last year topped off with DUK meet the riders in the evening.

After the DUK thing we managed to hang around in the Paddock.

Jasper was like a dog with two tails as he managed to get Gibernau, Biaggi, and Rossi's signature.

Some say lightening doesn't strike twice but that evening it struck three times!!!

Ray.

adam 13-Apr-2005 18:29

looks like im going to the day of champs then:D

ttstu 25-Apr-2005 23:18

I did it last year. Good day out. Track was wet with a few bikes being dropped. Too many on track. You meet at Coalville and get to chat with several BSB riders. Did it rain?

I'll probably give Donny a miss this year. Crap facilities. Went to Catalunia GP and it was awesome and much better organised.

deej 03-May-2005 22:01

adam go to the day of champions as you wont get into the paddock on race weekend unless you know someone of importance there like me. i'll have my usual paddock access pass but their rare as f*ck, unavalaible to the public unless you have big contacts.

2 years ago i got bayliss to sign my cap for me as he was going to the ducati hospitality ofr brekkie, last year was gibernau's birthday and i saw him blow out the candles on his cake

btw my minichamps are going up this year too, my leon haslam nsr500 has his sig on one side and ron's sig on the other, looks bloody awesome

bsb is a better bet for paddock access but i doubt you'll get the signature you want

chicken 14-Jun-2005 21:38

possibly a stupid question but what would be the best thing to do around the GP for taking clients to?

I'm not after value for money as the expense budget is decent, but need something that will be fairly memorable.

TP 14-Jun-2005 21:49

Chi, give me enough beer and money and I'll make sure they remember the night :D

masekul 14-Jun-2005 22:20

Ive sent for my weekend tickets via the club. My main interest is the photo's i might get. Can anyone say how close the club area is to the track & on whot part of the track.
I'm a new member & have been having a laugh at some of the mail replies.
On the subject of getting signatures, I was at the German touring round at Donnington last year & stumbled into the Mclaren area & nearly knocked Jean Alesi off his feet! there I stood with a burger in each hand triying to find something for him to sign, all I could find was a £20 which with a smile on his face he signed. Expensive autoghragh but whot a nice guy.
Looking forward to seeing some of you ar the GP. Good luck with the signatures.

so webmeister, can you help me or wot?

TP 14-Jun-2005 22:44

No not really - maybe you could approach DUK for passes to meet the riders?

Or, you could hook up one of the premier corporate packages that hook up meals and drinks etc.

that sounds a bit more like it. Does anybody know the best people to do this through?

TP 15-Jun-2005 16:09

So me dancing naked at the track at 3am after a night of beer drinking games, skulling competitions and whiskey won't cut it? And remember, eatin's cheatin!

I know when I'm not wanted ... :(

chicken 15-Jun-2005 16:26

no,no...your evening sounds absolutely ideal.

Unfortunately a hand-written receipt for £1,000 for 'services rendered' by the 'Tony Perrin Corporation' is unlikely to get sign off from the accounts department....

You could try Big Rock who do packages of all sorts, although it's not direct with a team etc.

Also, any news on the tickets etc for the GP yet? what about the "meet the riders" bit etc? has that been drawn? or have I missed out again? :puzzled:

TP 15-Jun-2005 16:31

Aww, you're just saying that to make me feel better.

I'm devoid of idea's but if you come up with something I'm sure I'd be available to help out in some way ;)

Thank you Mr P - you're about as useful as a <insert item> at/in/on a <something that item would not be very useful to> convention/group/gathering....and what's with the weird links?? ;)

revdecal 15-Jun-2005 20:47

im lucky enough to be in the HRC Honda garage this year getting the vip treatment.

Met a guy in China on holiday this year, who does all their design work and he is getting me and a couple of mates in.

Apparently it will be testing, dinner with max and Nicky and a chance to sit on top of the actual HRC transporter watching the race...how lucky am I?:D:D:D:D
