External fuel pump
 
Currently building up my class b bike for 2013, just wondering how many people run external aftermarket fuel pumps or if the standard ss unit is good enough? What pressure does the pump run at / what does every one else run?
Any help would be thankfully recieved.

Standard SS pump has proved OK and is what I'm using on the Class B bike I'm building. Even the Vacuum operated pump on the Monster 600s works OK, although a couple of people have replaced them with pumps from other carb'd bikes like Yam R6, CBR600 (mid 90s models) and ZXR400s.
Never measured the pressure on these as its quite low as they only substitue a gravity feed

on the injected class A bikes a 3-Bar bump is used

I've always used an out of tank pump. 7 psi max otherwise the carb float shut off won't cope. But the internal is good enough, but can't be run externally as it hemorrhages.

Kev 3 bar Bump !!! the B is nowhere near the P. :lol:

Ran an external pump on mine with the help from Ghostie above on advice and sourcing it. Bike ran so much better for me.

But that was replacing the Monster Vac pump with an electric one Craig, so the improvement can be dependent on the condition of the vac pump, and the vac acting on it.

The SS already has a decent electric pump and providing the filter in the tank doesn't get blocked is easily up to the job, after all the same pump is used in keeping a 900SS carbs topped up and I bet they drink fuel at a greater rate

Ahhh yes. Did not take note he said SS. And yea you know that Vac on mine was buggered.

Thanks for your comments, think ill stick with the one inside the tank, will clean the filter out though, did a trackday at brands in June and had no problems, if it isn't broke, dont fix it.

You will need to replace the filter as they are not serviceable.

I rode with the same SS set up (internal pump & filter) earlier this year never gave me any problems

Remove the whole filler cap 3 fasteners hold the flip part down then several 2mm grub screws hold the main part in place.

If the mounting flange for the filler cap hasn't been out for a while it can be a stubborn

Remove the cap (3 x allen screws), slacken off the grub screws round the cap housing, lift off the housing (pull off the overflow hose), slacken the hose clamps, remove filter. Unless you have small hands and nimble fingers, you might find it easier to remove the pump and filter together and then split them.
