Team Psychlist Racing

After a very hectic weekend (diesel included) I'm extremely pleased to announce the launch of the latest crew on the DesmoDue scene, Team Psychlist Racing. Progress is bound to be rapid in any new venture but after deciding at very short notice to bite the bullet and stop fannying around we're go go go go GO!!!
Monnie 600 arrives on Saturday, ACU training day Monday 18th, New Era application tomorrow so I can hopefully get my ACU licence on Monday too, got my race mechanic all geared up (hello Jamcoly), 2-piece leathers are going in Friday for an arranged marriage with a back-protector and vast quantities of needle and thread to arrive 1-week later (as promised by 9-lives leather) in 1-piece guise (that'll be another herd of friesians gone then eh Dibbs
Just need to concentrate on getting the bike race prepped, CMW Motorcycles in Chichester have offered some assistance there, no sponsorship involved but they're like an extended family to me now after my crash and everything else they've done for me. So I'm gonna get them to lockwire it up, K&N air filter, dynojet kit to get rid of the flat spot at the bottom end (sorry if you're reading this Jayse :P ). Just need to source a catch tray and oil breather bottle, number boards/front cockpit fairing (I like the 70's style 900ss bubble fairings) and JACK UP THAT REAR END! God she's gonna have a lot of ballast to carry, who's idea was it to go for 600's anyway?
Take care my friends, I may not be up there with you in most races, but there's gonna be at least ONE WET RACE

WeeJohnyB 11-Apr-2005 23:15

Well done Paul

Good luck mate, you'll love it

Dementor 11-Apr-2005 23:17

All the best Paul, look forward to watching a diesel thrash the field:lol:

dickieducati 11-Apr-2005 23:34

getting a bit fed up with all these people jumping on the bandwagon, cant you all go and do someting else instead?

when it started out i was assured of a top 20 finish, now i'm going to have to get my finger out just to get on the grid!
:o

really good news paul, looking forward to meeting up with you. this is going to be such a great series.

Red-leader 11-Apr-2005 23:43

Good luck Paul, show them youngsters whats it all about.
One for the OAPs in the club!

skidlids 11-Apr-2005 23:52

Nice one Paul, glad to hear your having a go, will be good to see you around the paddock and out on the grid.
So that only leaves Jools to join the fun and it will feel like a proper DSC event

webbyc 12-Apr-2005 08:44

Paul is the idea to cover everyone in diesel smoke so they can't see where they're going!!!:lol:

the old man 12-Apr-2005 08:59

9 Lives (in Guildford) are a good bunch. I can strongly recomend them having had a number of near death of the leathers experiences resurected by their capable hands. They also do a mean made to measure race suit at a very reasonable price (used to look after the likes of Shaun Emmett until he became big & famous).

If only, if only.....Daughters wedding to pay for and a son costing me £400 a month at University (just doing his finals thank God) means a mountain of overdraft and credit card bills that'll take me the next 5 years to clear :(

Once I've done that I can start building up another mountain of overdraft and credit card bills to go racing because it's there on my list of "things to do in one lifetime"...Oh, and I've got to convince Mrs Jools that racing is no more dangerous than gardening.

By the way, I've already copyrighted the name "Rat Racing" for my team, when I get it up and running...which will probably be around 2010 at this rate.

:rodent: "Awwww Jools fancy naming your team after me"

Congratulations on your entry though Paul, I wish you well and I'm not jealous at all, no...really I'm not ;) Good to see you've got enough confidence after your crash to go racing. And if there are lots of wet races, the rest of you look out...I always thought I was quite handy in the wet until I missed my session at the soaking wet Mallory trackday (TA1). Anthony kindly let me out in the Novices and I was miffed to find that I was having the hardest of times keeping up with Paul in the wet...he was flying!

ali 12-Apr-2005 10:46

Good to have you on board Paul! Nothing like a last minute entry to spice things up....

Hope the monnie proves to be a worthy steed and more reliable than my bleedin' SS! Laugh, I nearly killed myself......

Cheers,

Ali

bradders 12-Apr-2005 10:59

I feel so left out.....2006 is another year.

You can count on my support mate! rock on!!:biaggi:

psychlist 12-Apr-2005 11:21

Thank you all

Your encouragement is much appreciated, and if you're around at Snetterton Jools maybe you'd like to try out a REAL race bike in one of the trackday sessions :P

Now how much is a paint job? I can't afford to be seen on an unfinished bike, I mean, this Monnie still hasn't had the yellow topcoat applied over the red undercoat and grey primer :bouncy:

Dibble 12-Apr-2005 11:30

good work fella .... go stick it up the anonymous w*****s jacksy .....

Lily 12-Apr-2005 14:13

nice one, wish i had the guts and the cash to give it a go.

so does this mean you will be the insider that can pass all the secretive stuff to us outsiders

psychlist 12-Apr-2005 14:25

Thanks for the offer Ant but the only clique I've ever fit into are the non-cliquey ones ;)

antonye 12-Apr-2005 14:40

Scored 19!

Out of 19 so not bad for an old git eh ;) That's the ACU training course out of the way with the certificate now winging it's way with my New Era membership and ACU licence applications!
Having dropped my 2-piece into 9-lives on Friday, picked the bike up Saturday and discussed next steps with a couple of chaps yesterday I'm on me way to Castle Combe at last :biaggi:
Now all I need is new chain & sprocket set, raise the rear ride height so I'm not sitting on the floor, K&N air filter and Dynojet kit, oil/filter change, fix the belly pan, lockwire the sump plug, oil filter and filler cap and a new clutch lever so I don't have to reach too far to the biting point (are they ALL like that?) then I'll be ready for CK's next traffic light challenge trophy (albeit she wants to retain her 400cc advantage :smug: ).
It seems like ages since I rode my 750ss and this Monnie is just as nimble (maybe more so), I can get into corners a lot faster where I'd have to be backing off the 998 before dropping her in, wicked  Not a good idea whilst I'm using my old leathers though, no sliders :frog:

Well done psych. Look forward to watching man and machine in harmony at Castle Combe.

wherever you like big boy!:P

Its the drag racing training - not many get past me on reaction time:smug: & the first 1/8th mile - not even AK

I just bottle it further up the straight, I dont enjoy the power wheelies at 80+, on these private roads we go on;)

Not sure you should talk so open about PSY's and AK's dress sense....

psychlist 21-Apr-2005 10:53

CARB ICING!

Shows how long it is since I rode a bike without FI!! Got half way to work this morning and the poor little thing was a wheezin and a flutterin, a coughin and a splutterin until I pulled into a layby for a minute to let some engine warmth percolate up to the carbs then she was right as rain :o

Phew, so that's why they fitted diverters from the oil coolers on older SS's :smug:

Jayse 21-Apr-2005 11:01

Hmm, that's odd. never had that half way through a journey only the first couple of minutes and by then the heaters were working and then no probs. But if you're one of those early riser types, I couldn't comment, as I've never ridden her before 6am

Are you sure you're talking to her nicely? :burn:

"We" got as far as raising the ride height on the rose joints about half an inch but all of James' efforts to get anywhere near the rear shocker were thwarted by the fasteners of everything surrounding it having an unending desire to stay attached to the bike :o
Thanks again for your stirling efforts James, much more acceptable ground clearance and knee down cornering confidence round Havant college roundabout!
See you Sunday :biaggi:

Jayse 22-Apr-2005 17:58

Hmmm, that'll be those italian type fasteners then, just got back from fetching 749, it's lurvely! Must just get used to steering it now, loads of under steer, but tis me not the bike!

psychlist 24-Apr-2005 20:28

Hmmm! Dynojet kit

Many thanks to James for his time, efforts and endless patience fiddling with my carbs today to fit the replacement needles, springs, washers and jets. Such small insignificant parts, how much of a difference could they really make :smug: Whoa there neddy
On another tack
Shame the jet kit was the only part of the large order I placed on Wednesday (with 1 to 2 day delivery eh!) to have arrived in time to be worked on this weekend.
That's Cadwell out the window for sure :( especially as one of the footpeg fixing bolt sockets was found to be a nice circular shape where it seems someone has previously had problems getting it off,
and are the socket heads in the lower RH side footpeg bolts supposed to be a different size to the LH side :puzzled:

Jayse 25-Apr-2005 01:09

I think perhaps my service chappy took em off when he first fit the pipes, he thought spacers would be needed, and they weren't. Didn't notice the rounding of them tho! Made of cheese these bolts! I think the LH and RH hand ones are differnt, RH ones certainly longer as they bolt into the engine block through the side stand I think. I have a scematic somewhere, or download one from the ducati site?

psychlist 29-Apr-2005 23:38

I\'ll be ready for Castle Combe!!

Sorry I can't be at Cadwell on teh DD racer this weekend but I'm scrounging a lift up with Mrs Bradders (oh alright then Bradders too!) to gawk in awe at the grid going round the first hairpin in formation so I'll wish you all luck and see you there ;)

Got a fair deal of work done on the bike today, having received my box of bits from Stuart at Spareshack I paid a visit to big Steve at Wraysbury Tyres in Chertsey who not only supplied and fitted DD regulation tyres but also crash bungs and shark fin chain guard for me, excellent chap, thanks Steve ;) .
Lovely ride back across country to scrub the tyres in and spent a very pleasant afternoon fitting some of my Spareshack bits, thanks Stu ;) and James came over this evening to do help change the chain and sprockets, didnt realise you need to grind off the rivet heads before you can crack th eold chain off tho :o
we got plenty done tho, just leaves belts, oil and filter change; sort out the current bellypan; fit a set of catch tanks and still gotta change chain and sprockets all before Cstle Combe. I really admire the speed with which you guys have got your bikes ready for the series, mine is still a basic 583 road Monster but we're getting there.

Her's a pic of Team Psychlist Racing's pit crew in action prepping the standby DD entry

psychlist 29-Apr-2005 23:42

Also got my race licence from the ACU today, along with my 2lt AFFF extinguisher (£27 all in) so everything is coming together, if I don't see you at Cadwell over the weekend give us a shout at Castle Combe ;)

skidlids 30-Apr-2005 00:58

Looking forward to seeing you on the DD grid at CC, my bike could do with a few more allies in its war on the 620/670 army. Mind you if i'm totally out gunned I'm changing sides.

See you and Bradders at Cadwell, will be leaving in the van in 8 hours

psychlist 13-May-2005 23:49

James has been \"at it\" again!

Every golden touch makes the bike go faster or turn quicker or even more stable when cranked over, amazing ;)

This time he even put his foot in it :o

psychlist 13-May-2005 23:51

GRP is just another of his many talents!

Specially modified Imola bellypan becomes catch tray! Good eh!
