b******s world has just fallen apart !! trip into europe (moto gp & wsb) cancelled (i've let 2 mates down!!) can't ride til end of summer!! in pain!!! REASON--friend asked me to play rugby.. last play of game ouch.. complete rupture archilles tendon (snapped) surgery friday, plaster for upto 12 weeks ("might never be same again") only consolation-- took charge of tv remote on sunday and converted patients and nurses to moto gp racing--what a finish !! enjoy your summer lesson here somewhere ??!! chris |
Sorry to hear that ... I always thought that sport was unhealthy, you keep hearing of people injuring themselves and losing days off work etc. Frankly, I'm amazed this nanny state government hasn't already legislated it out of existence "for our own good". |

It's a man's game! I had my shoulder screwed back together last year after tackle gone wrong. But it's the only real injury I got out of that game and I'd played for a few years. I got more injuries from playing basketball! |

.......Puff!!! :P |
It is a stupid game, and I wonder why I bother any more when my body is constantly telling me to quit! I can't remember a time when I felt 110% physically sound in the last 10 years...even now I'm getting over a really badly turned ankle, that even the radiologist was amazed wasn't broken. I must have missed months of riding time due to niggling injuries that just make riding a 748/9** to uncomfortable for any amount of time. So my conclusion...try to get fit for a cup final in 3 weeks:lol: |

It's poof!! Not puff! :rolleye: ;) You been looking at my backside again? |
Only as I'm about to pull out of the vast slip stream and over take you :D |

 You forgot the 'again' at the end of your last sentence :rolleye: |
At the moment Tony I don't think I could keep up with you on the monnie and me on the R, the off has hit me for 6, and confidence is all but gone, even on my spin at the weekend it felt like it was going to throw me off again... problem is as it's a new bike to me, is that normal? or is it me? |
just feeling really sorry for myself !! i am 38 and have played to a high standard. i retired last year , i've kept fit and got asked to play a "social" game. just dissapointed about monza wsb and le mans moto gp trip cancel. |

Is there no other way you could get there for the races? Small consolation I know, but better than missing everything? You need someone with a sidecar outfit to take you! :eureka: [Edited on 12-4-2005 by HW] |

Don't worry about it, it will come back. I've just ridden into the office on the 996, the first time I've ridden it since Rocky last year. It felt completely alien after the monster! I can't believe how fast it is, and that was taking it easy because it has brand new tyres on it! Sheesh! It will just take a while to get used to it and then you'll be fine. :) |

I bet you are, I bet that hurts! It's not the easiest of injuries to get over, I hope you get better soon. Take it easy, and OWN the remote :D |

Wow, that trully sucks :( I feel sorry for you, i would love to see the WSB at monza. Anyway..... at least you hooked some people to MotoGP :D |
I'm sorry to hear about that injury, Chris. Sounds really nasty. You should just console yourself with the thought that everything that's fun has an element of risk. That's what makes it fun. Personally, I think rugby looks fuggin' dangerous - more dangerous than ladies hockey, and that's saying something! And maybe this injury will keep you away from biking for a while but maybe, had you been out on your bike instead of playing rugby, something worse would have happened. Hey ho, I'm not helping much am I? Get well soon. :bouncy::bouncy::bouncy::bouncy: |
Total bummer which leg right or left ? :saint: |
I sympathise with you Chris. I did mine about 3 seasons ago last game of season, Being self employed had to get my wife to drive the van for 6 months!. September was the first time i felt safe to ride. Good news is it takes a while but it will be as good as new with exercise. |
Sorry to hear the bad news mate :o Cannot Begin to imagine what that must be like... Not being able to ride for the rest of the summer ... Hope you have a speedy recovery. |
sorry about delay getting back to pc-- not easy. its my left leg. wouldn't trust being in sidecar,, it was all about the solo riding and spending a couple of days messing about on pyrenese. thanks for all the best wishes,, really appreciate it.. thanks |

Fly down Chris, or get a mate to take a car rather than the bike. My 996 spat me off at Brands in May 2000, broke both wrist's, had to go to WDW 10 days later in a car-but I still went. John |

You could fly down for the Monza WSB & hire an automatic car (as it's your left leg). It's a short drive from Milan (but set off very early as the traffic's a nightmare). I love Monza, it'd be worth the effort & might cheer you up. |
got new plans-- going to hold out for near end of season and do either portugal or spain moto gp meets.(esteril or valencia) ferry down to santander (hopefully weather will still be mild- october / november. |

Estoril's this weekend mate. They changed the dates so they could fit a round in at Istanbul (I think :puzzled: ). I went to valencia last year. Excellent organisation, atmosphere, etc. Highly recommend it. Enjoy [Edited on 14-4-2005 by Wylie1] |
will the weather be good for valencia motogp ? |

Weather was dry & sunny, but not that warm, low-mid twenties from memory. Loads of good reasons to go: - Good viewing + seating is quite close to the track. - Amazing atmosphere. - Well organised traffic management. - You can drive to Andorra & buy bike kit/ accessories much cheaper than uk prices. - Excellent facilities, ie. food, toilets, etc. You'll need to get your tickets quite early as it sells out completely. |
i'm going !!!! leg dependent !!?? |

Good to see your body might be dented but your enthusiasm isn't. Keep smiling. You know you want to. Best Wishes Ruth :bouncy: |
update,,, should have had plaster off for last time today... consultant not happy -- 3 more weeks in plaster -- bummer !!!!!!! |
BUGGER!!!!!!! |
Chris, I had exactly the same injury on the same leg at the start of 2003 .... 3 week before I picked up my new 749s :( I did try to ride the bike but with my toes sticking out in the cold and trying to hook the heel of my plaster cast under the gear lever to go up gears was impossible. I had about 14 weeks in plaster and physio 3 times a week for a further 12 weeks, still difficult to ride during physio. 1 of the problems was getting on the bike, at one point all your weight is on your left leg as you pivot around to get on your bike. The good news I can offer is that if you stick to the physio and do all the exercise you can get back to 99% as before. 2 years down the line the only problem I sometimes have is a little cramp in my calf muscle on a long ride, especially if you tend to ride on the balls of your feet. All the best and hope it works out for you. |
thanks Carbon749 you been more helpful than all the consultants etc put together thanks |
yea chris i tore my knee ligaments last year playing football and found the consultants absolutely useless when it came to advice and opinions. /ian |
yeah, sorry to hear about your injuries not good. I damaged ligaments + muscle in my shoulder on a mountain bike and after 7 weeks it still isnt right! can't train properly and have only just started riding the bike again in the last couple of weeks.:( it will get something like in time i keep saying to myself!:eureka: |
Chris I`m not a sporting person at all but fully sympathise with you, try and look on the bright side in that after you have had surgery its all uphill and things can only get better and you have getting back on a bike to look forward to. I was laid up for several months a trapped nerve on my left side that has left me with no reflex action in my leg but you learn to adapt and get round these problems with determination. Best of luck mate. regards Bob.G |
good news -plaster off now bad news--can't work (let alone ride) had a shock i thought i would be able to walk away and jump on bike when plaster came off.. can hardly move foot/ankle and still dependent on crunches. hope there is still a bit of summer left for me to ride in !!!!!!!!!! hindsite kept 900ssie til fixed then bought 999bip for same money as my 03 999bip but would have got the then "s" spec.. :(:sniff::sniff: |
:D:D:D back on bike for the first time last night.. had a test ride earlier (still need cruches to walk) hardest part is putting all my weight on "dodgy" foot to get on and off the bike. once on great !!!! went to Paignton bike night with mate (mille r). once there assembled cruches and of we went. riding was a bit rossi like (hanging left foot gear changes--not speed !!) just got to clean all the wildlife of now !! :P:D:P:D |
