RIP 996 Looks like my bikes been writen off. The engineer put it as a Catagory B. So she will never grace the road again. Been offered £4800 and the option to buy it back for £200 (That has to be the Worlds Cheapest 996).So atleast I can build a trackday tool and stay within the Ducati Fold. May just buy a Universal Jap Bike for the road. Any ideas on what to get for £4800 was thinking CBR 600RR I'm only 5'6 so nothing huge. |
:( a sad day!!! hmmm... sure you dont want a duke for the road as well? i know where there is a nice one going.... |

Wouldnt happen to be a yellow 748R by any chance! |
maybe..... :roll::burn: |
I've obviously missed something, what happened? are you OK? What model, year, reg, mileage etc was the bike and i'll chack the trade price if that helps. Good luck with getting it and yourself sorted. |

Go on then send me all the details. Honestly as soon as I have Money to Spend on a bike Lily is there to help me. I'm getting flash backs from last November |

Its a 1999 T 996 Bip 11500 miles. Retail is circa £5300 Trade is at £4800. I'm happy with it considering the buy price back to myself. Cheers |
Have you haggled with the insurance company yet ? £4800 for a 996 in this condition you must be mad, you know how it goes. Hope you get sorted out, its hard to Knock a 600rr |

I could haggle, However it has Cans that are not stamped with a kite mark and it has a small reg plate. So his insurance company can make it very difficult. Is it really worth the hassle for maybe an extra £1000 or so. Dont forget I still own the 996 with all its trick bits. I've never riden the 600rr but they do seem to be the bolox of a 600 |
Mr C If you want a 600RR try John at Hunts Motorcycles in Manchester on 0161 432 1303, top bloke who will sort you a good deal on a new or used one. Tell him Shaun sent you coz he won't have a clue who or what BDG is! |
oops your right don't open that can of worms. I use my mate’s 04 cbr600, I have to say it’s a brilliant bike and looks lovely better than the 1000 Pipe, filters and set up go and get a ride and see what you think  |
Hmmm.. What to do??? get it fixed up as a track tool? and sell it? or strip it for parts? Quite a few items on there that would shift quick sharpish... |
If the front wheel hasn't been pushed back to muller the engine you're looking at a grand or so on eBay for that alone! |

being realistic all it need is. Nose cone R/H Fairing (R/H Belly pan is ok just scractched) R/H Handlebar & Brake lever Clutch Cover Rear Brake lever is slightly bent but could bend back. V peice The Forks are straight and the frame is unmarked, Rear wheel has a scuff on the rim. Ohh and a new paint job, but on saying that the tank is untouched as is the L/H fairing. So it will only need the Nose cone, R/H side fairing and a touch up on the seat unit. So may aswell keep the GSE Colours I bet £500 will be more than enough to get it to a decent level. And resell value isnt going to be all that low £2500 ish? |

Cheers Shaun will do |
Sorry, I don't understand. Why is it Category B? I thought that was only for serious frame/forks damage. If that's all you need to get it going, why can't it be put back on the road? |
It down to Economical repair, If they said they were going to repair it, It would have to be as per pre accident and using OE parts. I went to Fylde Superbikes today to get prices, Bare in mind this will cover the renewal of a part/panel even if it has the lightest of scratches caused by the accident. Nose cone £194 R/H Fairings £248+£155 Mudguard £68 Single seat unit £304 R/H Mirror £45 R/H Handle bar £85 Brake lever £43 Carbon Clutch cover £69 Rear brake lever £35 Ti Pipes £600 Rear Brembo wheel £616 + paint £?? + Labour £35 Per hour So economically it has to be a Cat B, But with the power of ebay its not going to cost a fraction of that. Infact some parts i wont replace, Like the cans and wheel as they are only lighty very scuffed. |

Cat B can be repaired and return to the roads on it's origional mark, from memory it moderate to heavy damage. I have repaired cat B cars myself. As Jools says you could break it an make a tidy sum there. |
It's A - Must be crushed - Cannot normally be returned to the road B - May be broken for salvage - Cannot normally be returned to the road C - Too expensive to repair commercially - Can be returned to the road D - Everything else (new for old etc) - Can be returned to the road AB&C have markers against them set when the insurers pay out (DVLA notified using a V23) If you try to re-register it, the flag is noted and in all instances the relevant local police authority are notified. This is to protect against "ringing" You then have to undergo a new vehicle test to inspect for the repairs, and also that the vehicle is not a ringer. It's the Vehicle Identity Check scheme http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/carlgvow...heckscheme.htm So you could (possibly) put it back on the road, or break it or track it...... Can't see why it's a B though. should have thought it would fall under Cat C if there's no structural damage. [Edited on 12-4-2005 by Mr_S] |
guy at work has a cat b - just got his logbook thru and tickety boo all ok. All that needs to happen is (I think) a DVLA inspector checks what has been done and gives it the all clear, then it can go back on the road, thats what he was told anyway by dvla. trackday tool I reckon |
Hmmm how very intersting, It looks like I will have to look into it further... Watch this Space |

aaahhh....Hunts.....got my first bike from them (a 200 Benley before they added the conservatory) and about 2 minutes walk from the shop I grew up in. I remember peering through the shutters to look at the bikes as I waited for the number 50 bus to school every morning. Memories...... |

Mr C does this mean that you have yourself been previously too expensive to repair commercially but have been safely returned to the road?:devil: |
Sorry to hear about your Duke.I have a 996 which went down the road and was luckily able to get repaired.I also bought a Honda 600rr but the other way round i.e for the track and the 996 for the road. Can't speak highly enough of the honda, does everything well, but no character unlike the Ducati. If you change your mind and are after replacing your 996,I am considering changing mine, let me know. |
Track it Mr C than you wont be whinging about not wanting to scratch it on track. At £200 I will have it off you as it will be a good bike for the track. You know you want to but will the Ggirliefriend let you?? Get in touch if you decide to move it on, at a profit of course ;) |
I kind of knew what OY was going to say even before I read it ;) |
Which bit? The track bike bit, he knows hw wants to. The buy it bit, would make a belter track tool. Or the bit where I remembered him saying he dare not take it to Oulton for a trackday in case he might scratch it :P :P :P, his words (or the GF's) not mine. Just shows its safer on track dont it now? From a post I have seen elsewhere it looks like someone is looking for track fairings???? Yeeehhaaaaa, another one on the road to ruin :D Gis a shout when your ready to roll Mr C and we can try and sort a meet. |
