Well what can I say.

Today was the first time I've ridden my 996 since October last year. It's just had it's two year/12000 mile service with Nelly and I took the opportunity to change the gearing again, from 14/36 to 14/39.

I only rode it around 5 miles, to work and back. Had to take it easy because I had brand new Diablo Corsa's on.

But dear me that bike is quick. I know that a lot of you have bikes packing a lot more horsepower (After Neil Spalding finished with mine it's got around 120rwbhp, plus the shortened gearing and lightened flywheel ...) but I'm really impressed by how this thing moves along. I opened her up coming onto a service road onto the M3 and a nice 2nd gear wheelie steadily coming up on the throttle. Sheesh!

If all of you with big bikes want to appreciate what animals you own just do a few trackdays on a bike with only 60rwbhp and it will certainly sharpen your focus!

I am one very happy bunny and Ducati ownership can't conceivably be any better than it is today for TP.

You should see the grin I'm wearing typing this!

Errr, no ... never ridden an ST. But I think my 620 monster is making a bit less than that!

Stalls intermittently
Req's setting up
Req's new coils
May require new subframe and exhaust
New clocks
New ECU

I know what you mean Tony...when I've ridden the DR through the winter off road...I get back on the Duke after a few months off and it feels like a rocket ship...but the thing that always makes me giggle is how smoooooooth it feels compared to the single cylinder 4 stroke engine and knobblies on the DR!

Its worth riding the DR every now and then, just to get back on the Duke to experience this feeling again!

And I plan on staying that way for now!

Can't see a 999 appearing in my garage, unless I'm helping someone out after theirs has broken down.

Err .. thanks. I don't fancy being pulled over again like that. With 10 police milling around in front of a selection of police vans, cars and bikes!

I'll be out and about this Saturday, off to Snell's I believe. I won't be hanging around all day though because it's the end of season bbq for my rugby club on Sat afternoon so there will be beer to be drunk and tales to be told.

I need to change the chain and sprockets on my 996s which has also had Sigma do some similar work on it. At the moment I have a 14t front sprocket and the standard 38t rear. Should I keep a 14t front and go up to a 39 rear or maybe even a 40t rear? What's the general view on this? When I first changed the front sprocket I loved the quicker acceleration but have obviously got used to it now. Obviously the 996 is overgeared as standard so what is the optimum gearing for fast twisty road, track riding and balistic wheelies whilst still maintaining an acceptable top speed and reasonable touring ability as I often ride it to France?

RR - you could go to either a 39 or 40 rear - I also think you should start a new thread with your question otherwise it might not get all the responses you want.
