progress or lack of it

well with 2 weeks to go the fairing and seat mounting brackets are still not made, the fairing needs to be fiitted and trimmed then painted, the footrest lowering brackets are still not made and I need to make a catch tank(plasic coke bottle anyone).
All this should have been done at the beggining of this week but I am waiting for the metal fabricator before I can do anything else. there is also the small problem of setting up the bike as I think that the rear is a little low.
also buying large tent type thing and new gloves as mine split at rockingham this week ( I thought clothing split when you put on weight not when you lost it:frog:)

never mind at least i have got my beer fridge and tonight will get a diesel generator to power it and a light etc!

my preperations have degenerated into chaos, basically a normal state of affairs!!

If it's any consolation you aren't the only one.
Mine sprung an oil leak from a casing bolt and is currently away having it sorted and subject to that going to plan I get the bike back next week and then have to get to grips with these coke bottles and fit the rest of the brake conversion.
Despite best efforts I feel there will be a lot of chaos over the next 2 weeks for quite a few folk.

Don't worry Dave, each new day brings another ten heart-stopping moments when I remember things that need to be done! Panic comes as standard.....

How you would have laughed yesterday as my very-wet-and-freshly-painted seat unit went barrelling across the floor after I executed a perfectly controlled triple-salko while trying to cath the paint gun which had fallen off the badly-angled screw above my head...:lol:

Cheers,

Ali

I finished off my seat mounting bracket last night, which was more like a subframe!

Take one sheet of 500x250x1mm steel from B&Q (£5.39) then cut to size with the angle grinder. Add some bending with the help of a vice and hammer and it fits like a treat!

All I need now is some seat foam and that's another tick on the list.

TP 15-Apr-2005 10:21

I had a few beers last night :D

AK 15-Apr-2005 10:30

our outstanding list of 'to do' is:

zaust (still waiting)
catch tanks
running in the big bore

Thats about I think:sniff:

antonye 15-Apr-2005 10:32

That looks about the same as my list now CK.

Oh, need to get the chain on, but that's about it.

Tonio600 15-Apr-2005 11:14

Last night I was painting my seat unit. The result is ugly, but home made. And also I ordered some stickers, because even without sponsor I want to display something on my bike :lol::lol::lol:

What about "Sponsored by passion" ? Is it a good phrase in English ? I want to put this on my bike :sniff:

skidlids 15-Apr-2005 13:12

primary list now complete that allowed me to go testing at Llandow yesterday, so now on to my secondary list required to be done by race day, just need to add clean out fuel system and source a non rusty tank to the list.

TP 15-Apr-2005 13:13

Need to get a jerry can and filler sorted out. A tent, mattress etc.

antonye 15-Apr-2005 13:19

Go to the seasonal section of a large Tesco, loads of camping stuff just in inc air beds and all seemed very cheap. Seen it in Gatwick only this week.
Anyone want anything from Argos i can normally get on the qt minus 10% but has to be cash.

paynep 15-Apr-2005 16:10

Looks like I'm way ahead guys.

I have tent, coolbox, deckchairs and camping stove sorted.

I just have only one wheel, no front brakes, rear shock, exhaust, footrest or seat on the bike following running-in......

Roll on May 2

Just a thought, what’s the situation going to like for those poor sods that don't get through scrutinering on the first DD race day, I’m sure that there are going to be loads of fellow riders offering their help but on the day they may just to busy themselves to give much assistance. Is there any other sources of technical know how available?

scruitineering shouldn't present a problem - it really is an MOT-like check of wheel/swingarm bearings, non-leaking fork seals, tyres fit to use, lockwired sump, bore and stroke on c/cases, vent into bottle, lock-stops work, everything's done up tight, got kill-switch, brakes work etc etc.
All basic stuff.

Cheers for that Daz, and welcome to the site.

I'll have a glass of Wolf Blass Merlot thanks mate :D

Are you doing scrutineering for any of the clubs? Involved in New Era?

cooperman66 15-Apr-2005 23:00

Nah, not me, I'm an ex-club racer, did 5 years '88-92. The only time I failed sctuineering was when I was so skint I was trying to blag a leaky seal here or non-snappy throttle there! I suppose it could have all changed since then but I doubt it ;-)
