I think its all over............

Hi guys,

On Saturday i was in a bike crash that involved four bikes and five people! We were in a line with about five bike lengths between us doing about 60ish when the lead guy (with his wife on the pillion) lost it on a left hander! His bike then spewed oil + petrol across the rode. The guy following had no where to go and (i think) ran over the first rider. I tried to look up the road but was taken out when the second bike bounced across my path:o I t-boned it and tumbled along the grass verge. The guy following me straight lined it into some trees and on the way took out a couple of bollards on the way. The first rider and pillion were in quite a bad way (lots of broken bones)! The second was so badly brused he thought he had a broken leg. The fourth guy was sore all over and was hit in the face by his handlebar! I was the only one not to go to hospital but later that night i was hurting really badly. I couldnt walk on my right ankle and i couldnt get my left arm above my head.

When i stood up it was like a war zone! All the details are here:

http://www.hullbikers.com/viewtopic.php?t=4955

My bike has been pulled apart! Both yokes have split in half and the only thing holding on the front end is the speedo cable!

:o:o

The main thing is that no one is dead and it looks like all will be ok in time.

RIDE SAFE YOU GUYS!!

HOLY CRAP!

I hope everyone pulls through ok! Wow, I'm a bit stunned to be honest.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery for everyone involved (I'm typing this stuff too often lately!!!)

Felix 19-Apr-2005 16:36

Bleedin' eck! That sounds like a right nightmare. Best wishes to everyone involved. The light at the end of the tunnel will get brighter eventually. Been there myself.

JPM 19-Apr-2005 16:37

Hmmm...

Don't really know what to say, glad you're OK, and get well soon to you any everyone involved, can't imagine what went through your mind at that moment.

The police said that as long as no one died ( they didnt!) Then it was just an accident and we may never know the true cause!!:o I couldnt see anything on the road at all. I think it was the front that folded but i dont think he was braking at the time. There was a 1.5m skid then impact marks followed by an oil slick. I will be getting whats left of the bikes back on Wednesday so will try to see if something failed on his bike! He was the only one with fully comp cover!! The rest of us are TPFT and may well be fooked:(

Steve M 19-Apr-2005 17:24

You may be able to claim off the insurance of the first one down - if you want to of course and you may not like to do this.

might be worth taking the estimated speed out of the post!!!

chris99 19-Apr-2005 17:27

Its only a max speed!! Im sure it was lower but def no more

ericthered40 19-Apr-2005 17:31

Don’t say its all over just yet, sounds like a real nightmare at the moment but your all still hear.
Bones and bikes mend and so dose the mind. Sometimes in your biking career days don’t go strictly to plan and some days go so wrong you can spend a long time coming to terms with what has happened.

Get well soon all of you just glad to hear it wasn’t any worse
:sniff:

Lily 19-Apr-2005 17:37

Sounds like you are very lucky tbh!

A few years back now there was a similar accident on the A5 in North Wales when a foreign car bounced off the curb and into the first in a line of oncoming bikes. Very similar situation with all trying to take avoiding actions. Unfortunately their outcome was not so good :(

Fingers crossed everyone gets sorted soon!

ericthered40 19-Apr-2005 17:53

I know you don't feel lucky at the moment but you will.
good luck fella and all your friends and don,t forget the good times.

Redruth 19-Apr-2005 19:31

So sorry to read this Chris. I hope you and your friends recover fully. It does highlight the dangers of group riding, though. And a bad accident last year too. :o:o I can see why you're feeling enough's enough.

Let us know how you're all getting on.

Best wishes
Ruth

chris.p 19-Apr-2005 20:14

:o, speedy recovery to all, must admit i know those roads quite well & the speeds qouted should not have caused a problem. But it does bring to light the fact about better spaceing when group riding, again speedy recovery toall involved.

Chris:burn:

deej 19-Apr-2005 21:11

chris, keep your chin up and relax, you'll heal faster then

im sure you will be fine and that the bike will be fixed ( plenty of help on here for that )

everyone comes off sometime, fault or non fault you've just been seriously unlucky by the sounds of it

dave

Guido 19-Apr-2005 22:58

Nooooooooo

Real shocker this one Chris, but shows just how easy it is to become a statistic out there

Hope you and your chums make a full recovery...

Best wishes, Guy

Twinfan 19-Apr-2005 23:02

Nightmare. I hope all recover swiftly. Must've been a horrendous thing to experience.

psychlist 19-Apr-2005 23:33

It is awful when you have an off yourself without having to watch in horror as it happens to your mates around you at the same time. I know what it's like to have such bad luck mate and tho' it seems like the end of the world it will get brighter believe me. Time is a great healer and I'm sure you'll be back on 2 wheels in due course. The main thing is that nobody was too badly injured. The bikes will get replaced in time and you'll be back amongst the fold before long.
Take it easy for now and keep your mates chins up too :biaggi:

Webcore 20-Apr-2005 00:51

That's not nice - my best wishes for a speedy recovery to everyone

Jonathan Novice 20-Apr-2005 16:27

A speedy recovery to you and your friends.

Jon

Walenut 20-Apr-2005 18:43

I know what its like mate, not very nice, hope you get sorted.

chris99 20-Apr-2005 21:33

Thanks for the kind words guys. Went to see my mate last night and he is doing ok:) He was pretty out of it on pain killers but was on about the gsxr1000 he is getting next:o

His wife has been sent home! I went to see her and all she remembers is waking up in the hospital:o Her lid has a crack about two inches long from the visor upwards. Its not a cheap one so she must have hit it pretty hard.

Just got the bikes back and it looks pretty bad.

One fork is def bent and one of the brake calipers is split in half. Top and bottom yokes are split in half and the front end has come away from the rest of the bike. The frame doesnt look bent at all! It looks like there is an ali insert in the steel tube of the headstock - its this that is mashed! Cant it be replaced??

The cam belt cover has a corner missing and one of the cylinder heads has a corner missing. Also the lug for the front V-piece has snapped off:(

Not looking so hot right now!!

Both mirrors are ok though:lol:

GsxrAge 20-Apr-2005 21:54

Hope you all get well soon mate.

I'm sorry to hear about the accident and whilst it sounds like the bikes are all in a pretty bad state at least no-one was seriously hurt.

No doubt the police will investigate as far as there were a group of bikes "obviously" riding recklessly and in excess of the speed limit yadi yah. They'll now enter this all into their accident statistics and spend the whole summer persecuting anyone who is seen to be riding in a group etc. etc. .

Still I'm relieved to hear that you're all ok as things could obviously have been a lot worse .
