REAR NUMBER BOARDS I have just spoken to phil at new era to clarify the position and type of rear number board as I wanted to put the numbers on the 998 rear seat unit which would not meet the acu regulations (ie not flat and virtually vertical). Phil confirmed that it is ok to put the numbers on the rear seat unit as long as they are clearly visible dave |
Thats what i've done with mine- painted the cowl white apart from leaving a nice red stripe down the middle and put my numbers on. I think it might be a bit of squeeze for 2 or 3 numbers though. I'm hoping it will be ok as it's clearly visible. We shall see on Sat. [Edited on 21-4-2005 by phoenix n max] |
I've got ugly boards I think - but they'll get me on the grid. |
kelly spent about 2 hours putting the white sticky vinyl on the rear seat unit on the 600ss...nightmare as its not flat at all and is made up of a pillion seat cover.... As a note....the numbers we have allocated to DD do the carry over to SoT.? Phil |

Good point, I would have thought not. I'm ringing them in a minute so I'll ask. |
Well, I've just spoken to them and the answer is the numbers won't change between the SOT and DD. They were having a bit of an argument about it in the background though, so I'm not sure where that leaves us :puzzled: |
how can that be? my number and many others at new era cant possibly be unique? |
So what if there's a SOT regular who already carries your DD number? Shirley you'll be allocated another one for SOT when your entry drops thru the letterbox? |
I would have thought we'd get different numbers for SOT's to be honest. Aren't they already boarded on white with black numbers ? I can't see my number 6 being free in SoT but i suppose its possible. :puzzled: |
lol..whoever is selling numbers at the race meets is gonna be doing ok................. lets hope tony as you say..the numbers are the same, save a little hassle. But like Phoenix said i cant see my number 2 being free for Sot either.... just wait n see...... Phil I really want to see my entry details now..... [Edited on 21-4-2005 by fil2] |
I can only tell you what I was told! :( Like I said, they were arguing about it in the background so I wouldn't consider that a concrete answer. |

r u sure you did not ring the DSC racing commitee...... Phil |
Are the SOT numbers black on a white background? |
Just looking through the New Era handbook - it certainly looks to me like they are indeed Rattler. |
I reckon that with the use of transducers the need for race numbers ( at least for the officials) is somewhat negated. Its more for spectators I reckon - but they'll easily be able to spot the DD bikes - they'll be at the front!!!!! ;) |
Yes Tim they are , as for numbers my 88 is the same as my New Era number last year so maybe if I enter other classes I will also get my number 88, but as Phil says his No.2 has probaly been earnt by somebody last year that will want to run it on their bike this year. Unless they haven't entered this meeting on the woodlands circuit. As for Number placements I still have to check the ACU handbook but the Desmo Due rules allow me to place them on the side of the fairing, which makes using the specified sizes easy. I know the classic races bike do and they run according to the ACU rule book so I hope I'm OK doing it that way. its either that I put them on my 916 style seat unit where hardly anybody could read them |
For any1 interested who's not in possession of a New Era handbook, here's what we have to comply with: |
Speaking of transponders ... If you sent your entries without a transponder number and have since bought one, don't forget to update New Era with the number!! I've just done that :D TP, I've got a transponder :P |
good shout cheers |
I've entered CB500's, GP250's and 600's all with my number 89, might just be lucky, but with 16 different races with say 30 people in each, there has to be duplication does n't there? eg, the winner gets to choose number one if he wants it, so that means there could be 16 number ones????? Don't know, never noticed really, but love to find out WeeJohnyB |
I paid £10 to have the same number in both classes. Saves loads of hassle. Example: Start the day with #23 for SoT Then change to #74 for DD Then change back to #23 for SoT and back again to #74 for DD ..then if you're doing SoT next meeting, you'll have diff numbers again probably, and unless you're really careful the numbers will fall apart every time you remove them. Although I think it's totally wrong to have to pay £10 to keep a number, it would probably work out cheaper over a season if you're buying numbers. It's all a con  |
Well I hope what they've told me is true, not that I'll be able to do anything about it but I'll be very unhappy if it isn't. I'll only have numbers for number 12. |
Hmmm - well i;ve just looked up numbers for last weekends SoT meet at Mallory with New Era. The numbers featured in the race were : 49-131-168-6 ( thats me buggered)-143-169-155-56-106-38-135-66-129-78-150-139-153-152-119-133-82-90-166 The numbers were pretty similar for Brands too with the addition of 5 and 7 Gonna be luck of the draw i'd say. |
anyone know if its a full grid for sot saturday ? |
Dunno but i can't wait to see the DD's up against the big bikes on Woodlands. :o |

Apparently not, at least it wasn't last week. And a large component of the grid are DD bikes. |
best make a call in the morning then :D |
"and unless you're really careful the numbers will fall apart every time you remove them. " Can't believe you re-use your numbers!! They only cost about 10p each fer christ sake. If you're running in different classes and there is a number clash what New Era try to do is increment your number by 100, so for example you might be 42 in one class and 142 in the other - that way it is easy to change. I guess you must all have your bikes built, track tested to set up gearing and base suspension settings and just waiting for the off - and that's why you've got time to worry about numbers! |
Just found out that my bike is actually being painted before the first race. (although may not have an engine) Louigi was able to go home just after 2am last night too. Personally the number issue doesn't concern me. I'm good like that  |
