rockhopper 08-May-2005 18:44

wheel bearings, head bearings, disks moving on the bobbins, pads moving in the calipers, fork bushes....

FiscusFish 08-May-2005 19:33

Ommmmmm.... Ommmmm...... I see a.... I see a.... '98 916....... ;)

Rob B 08-May-2005 22:07

Is this just pushing it about or rolling slowly? Pads slop about in the callipers and make a racket.

Rgds, Rob

Check your caliper mounting bolts first?
Second could be pad slap?
Third is Steering head bearings?

small boy 09-May-2005 08:19

Oops! 98 916,sorry had a blonde moment(if i had any hair!!!!).It's a clonk normally heard a low speed,calipers seem fine,bearings???????????
Can i stop pad slap !!!!!sounds a bit rude but hey..........:sing:

Old Yella 09-May-2005 14:06

Bit of a long shot but are the spring plates ok and in the correct position that hold the pads in the calipers?

The pads should not move too much normally but if they or the calipers have become worn then it could be happening?

Have you tried raising the front end on a paddock stand and spinning the whell to produce movement then applying the brake?
Or applying the brake then trying to turn the wheel?
YOu need to get mucky if you want to sort it yourself ;)

Are you near anyone else on here that might have a look with you, I am in North Yorks, where you at?

Its all pie in the sky unless you can get soemone to look at it and possibly ride it to see if it is the norm.

Failing that get louder cans and drown out the noise :eureka: :P :P :P

Now sorted, thanks for all your help.

small boy 10-May-2005 21:06

Steady boys(or ladies),new to this site, did'nt mean to offend. After reading my haynes manual,i noticed there was not any brake pad/anti rattle metal things.
