MCN police crackdown shock horror probe

I was reading the bit in MCN about the police across the country targetting bikers this summer, with the usual slumping of shoulders etc,...why us? ..have they nothing better to do? and so on......and then I thought, how much of this has been hyped up by the paper trying to emulate the daily redtops( hach!,a plague on all their houses!),you know the sort of thing...invaded by immigrants type stories that are more to do with scaremongering than news and leave everyone feeling insecure.
Is this just an annual police response targetting what they see as traffic problems, including bikes which has been reported in a headline grabbing way or has the paper got it right and we are being singled out unfairly as an easy target?
I'm not so sure now.:o:mad::o:(:puzzled::puzzled:

dickieducati 11-May-2005 16:20

dont really know the answer but the law and justice system in this country is a joke. FACT

beancounter 11-May-2005 16:21

Could not agree with you more Dickie.

antonye 11-May-2005 17:39

Seems odd that Essex won't be targetting bikes this years as they usually do, although they're not running the BikeSafe campaign this year either (I tried to book up for some DSC Essex members...) so maybe their aims of reducing casualties on the Essex roads to zero was a success last year?

Or maybe I'm just being cynical and it's all about the money.

By the way, if you do live in Essex the best day to go out burgling houses is a tuesday as the coppers are usually far too busy checking bikes at the Dick Turpin pub, which is a well known bike meet. Just thought you'd like to know

dickieducati 11-May-2005 17:46

they were out doing speed checks on the way to burnham on sunday. very visible and in a 30 limit to be fair.

antonye 11-May-2005 17:47

I wonder why they chose Burnham .... :rolleye:

uncle porry 11-May-2005 18:25

i got a ticket for the zorst on my zxr last bank holiday monday, the plod who stopped me reckon they are gonna do routine spot checks in suffolk thro the summer to catch bikers with illegal zorsts, visors and number plates...apparently whistling on a tuesday will soon be an offence as well.....

:saint:I think your right, some forces do have a problem with bikes, but on the whole i think we do o.k.I live in Hampshire and i have never had any problems,I used to have a KTM 640 with full race exhaust (louder than my 749 with termi)and i never got pulled once.I think the police in Hants are fairly reasonable and tend to stick to nicking the ****s who speed in built up areas and villages etc.Let's face it these are the people who should be targeted.
It is interesting to note however that bikes which in the main are well maintained and looked after seem to attract more attention than the boy/girl racers in their clapped out, uninsured and non mot'd tin cans.I know who most people would like to see being targetted.:saint:

Interesting to see that point of view as to listen to the " Croozin' " fraternity, they think they are the hardest done to section of the community when it comes to Police attention.
Added to that my own experience with only a "hearts and minds" approach to bikes and a fairly organised firm line to 4 wheeled shed gatherings would tend to disagree with the comment, or that's the game plan at least in my area.....

I laughed at the Cumbria bit, lets see how far into summer we get without seeing a roadblock aimed at bikers, bet it won't be long, try BH Monday A686, would love to be proven wrong, however I won't know 'cause I won't be using the road !

Youll probably find the roadbloke is necessary for the £1,000,000 investigation into the motorcyclist road death up the road!

GsxrAge 11-May-2005 20:31

you got to laugh at one of the forces :lol:

I mean a harley police bike :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

andyb 11-May-2005 20:35

As for hype, i posted purely fact in one of Antonye posts earlier but it got removed!

I dont think it was slanderous to tell the amount of information that had been given to that motorcycle paper, only for them not print a word of it, but instead say we declined/refused to comment.

Believe who you want, but i know who my moneys on.........

That's the problem - most coppers will probably agree with a lot of the sentiments about catching "real" criminals as that's what most of them joined up for.

I'm sure they don't like it any more that we do, but orders are orders and it's not the front line troops that create the battle plans, just carry them out. Unfortunately they also have to take the flack too.

It's the very thin end of the wedge and one of the reasons I gave up working with the public a long time ago!

As for AndyB's posts I can't see what was wrong with it either. I posted the original article about Marc Potter (MCN's editor) getting quite a few votes in the election. I think there was one sarky comment bringing the journolistic worth of that particular publication into question, and Andy commented on a particular article from his side of the fence, and how what got printed was entirely different. Then the post disappeared without explanation to neither myself or the other contributors as far as I'm aware.

:puzzled:

Webteam 11-May-2005 23:09

That particular thread you are referring to was removed because of comments directed at MCN, those comments weren't written by any current contributer to this thread.

At the time the post was edited and the reason was posted in the thread and it was subsequently removed.

So it wasn't anything you guys said.

I also wanted to make the point that if a thread is removed it is normal practice to notify the thread originator and the person who posted the contributions that caused the thread to be removed. Whilst I agree that it would be good to notify all contributers to a thread sometimes it's not practical because of the volume of contributers to the thread. As you know, some of the threads reach well over 100 posts.

I hope that helps.

Cheers,

TP

Dave before you talk about scaremongering our firm are laying off 60 fitters/welders in London, terminal 4 Heathrow has 80% of construction workforce made up of illegal immigrants they are claiming dole and then being picked up in minibuses to work for peanuts.
wait till your job is under threat then youll wake up an realise it aint propagander.:flame::flame::flame:

Northwales police seem to be the same this year as last, on the upside they have less budget meaning less chance of getting stopped, and also the feeling from the officers that enforce this policy is becoming more than sick of brunstrom.
TBH sometimes we are are own worst enemy, last night was a warm night and all i could hear all night was the sound of loads of IL4's screaming down a built up 30 and 40 limit with the odd rumble of a V2 thrown in. And lets be honest a full size plate hardly slows us down does it ? also if stopped wearing a black visor, if carrying a spare clear no officer would bat an eyelid i bet.
It doesnt really worry me if the police want to clamp down against bikes, i have no problem in getting stopped in one of thier road blocks to be persecuted / checked out, my bikes are all legal with the odd slightly louder pipe (RGV SP) and its an excuse to stop for a quick ciggi anyway.
At least with a large layby type ambush there are less feds hiding behind hedges down long straights in quiet areas

bradders 12-May-2005 10:43

I read the article last night...so what are they doing about it? I thought it would be a call to action, they are the bikers champ after all, but nothing!

I cant see the reasoning beind roadblocks, its anti-democratic and persecutory (spelling??) and should not happen! What if you are going somewhere with a deadline? Picking up kids? Metting someone? Its an outrage!:flame:

But nothing more than I would expect frpom this nanny stated poxy country we are becoming:mad::mad:

stopping people for no reason in the street (how will thuis bring down crime??)
stopping drviers for spot checks (cash generation??)
ID cards (what could a billion do for the poor and sick in this country??)
nazi-style immigration and terrorism controls (the enabling act ring a bell Mr Blair??)
farmers with no rights to use their land for bikesport
rediculous speed limits and restrictions (another cash cow)
rights to everyone but the victims (well, you wouldnt want justice would you??)
border control based on PC liberal management with minimal staff (trying their best but let down by red tape in inadequate resource)

could go on but feel my blood pressure rising - need to take a pill!! (chill pill possibly)

NOTE: this is not a dig at plod, on the whole they are doing a job and much of what they would like to do they cant but it is a dig at top plod who operate cash flow charts and p&l philosophies

off soap box and going to get more coffee.......

antonye 12-May-2005 11:00
