Men and Motors

I know that most people have Sky or cable but for people like me with Freeview I discoved last evening that M and M are now on Freeview channel 38.
I'm sure this is common knowledge but I missed the anouncement.
Is M and M any good?

No. They've stopped showing all the dodgy non-pR0n after 11pm :(

ath748 19-May-2005 15:38

Mostly shite. Lots of Septic-Tank shows with vaseline smeared all over the camera lens - you know what I mean.....that slightly blurry picture that American tv's have. How do they watch that stuff?!

No offence to Shazam or any other fellows across the pond. :)

Ade.

Col996s 19-May-2005 15:39

Do they show AMA coverage?

HW 19-May-2005 15:44

They don't really have coverage of anything much as far as I can see. There was also something in one of the magazines recetly that they were not commissioning any new bike shows as there was more viewers for car shows. Not that you'll miss a lot as it's mostly repeats.

God .. that sounds miserable and depressing doesn't it? Sorry ... :puzzled:

Mark 19-May-2005 15:44

That's Motors TV Col

beancounter 19-May-2005 15:46

Until recently M&M showed a fair number of generally crap car and bike programmes.

Now they've stopped showing even those and it's now mostly crap old episodes of The Professionals and The Sweeney.

Avoid.

Mark 19-May-2005 15:50

The Sweeney rocks! When TV was gritty, not this washed down american rubbish (excluding 24) we get now.

JPM 19-May-2005 15:55

Hey don't knock Bodie and Doyle!

beancounter 19-May-2005 15:58

I'm not really knocking either programme, but really :-

1) this is Men and Motors, where are the Motors programmes ?

2) how many times can you watch that old '70's stuff ?

HW 19-May-2005 16:04

There are actually MORE progs on bikes on Living TV I think .. so long as you like watching "Chopper Build Offs", or it might be the same one repeated over and over but I never stopped around long enough to discover that!

All the time

 I know ya not knocking it, well not 2 much!

Col996s 19-May-2005 16:37

Thanks Guys,
As I thought you don't get something for nothing.

antonye 19-May-2005 16:49

M&M was ok a while back - they used to alternate between bike and car programs every hour from 6pm until 11pm - but just recently they seem to have dropped all this for crappy repeats.

............Probabaly since they went onto Freeview.

clint 19-May-2005 17:59

Men & Motors used to owned by Granada. But there is a change over period going on. I'ts now owned by ITV.
So expect no motorcycle programmes and more reality tv repeats.

Clint.

Rattler 19-May-2005 18:32

I heard that ITV were about to convert it into ITV4 and drop all the Men and Motors parts.

More threepeats of Corry I reckon!!! ;)

Correct.

rcgbob44 20-May-2005 10:13

M&M is complete rubish!

lane748 20-May-2005 19:33

Most if not all of the programmes have the same presenters. Lousie Brady for one. And who thre F**k is that one who presents "full throttle famous"? (cut to arty shot of her posing against a bike every two minutes, like she is some famous model)

Ozz 31-May-2005 23:13

Have had Freeview for a couple of weeks now and watched M&M a few times.

There is a load of tat but some good stuff too:

This weds/thurs is NW200 at 8pm
TT starts friday 'exclusive coverage' - whatever that means
Watched TT thing on a Canadian guy who wanted to race there tonight
Next monday Ewan McGregor starts a series on Troy Bayliss (as far as I can see)
Then there is the Professionals and Sweeney!

Just don't watch the right crap after about 10pm. Uncut reps or something. Very dodgy!

bradders 01-Jun-2005 00:19

saw that tonight, $50k spent to race a one off TT, theres dedication!! Must be gutted he couldnt break the 100 mph barrier - 99.28mph...now thats close!

Bit confused why he would spend $6k renting a bike - would have been about £4k in 2002 so why not buy one and sell it for similar cash at the end??

Ozz 01-Jun-2005 10:06

Yes seemed a little strange really. Certainly obsessed. He has some degenrative disease or something hasn't he?

Wonder where he is now 3 years on?

WeeJohnyB 01-Jun-2005 11:38

Sadly, I used to watch M&M a fair bit as there was some bike stuff on it like Jamie Witham, R6 cup and other stuff which was better than more repeats of 70's and 80's 'men' stuff. I'm a bit disappointed really.

The TT is alive and kicking on M&M from Friday, so can't wait for that, although no idea how much coverage it will get, but they're certainly advertising it a fair bit.

By the way, Granada technically no longer exists after the merger between Carlton and Granada which formed the new ITV. They have a new ITV4 coming out soon which will be targeted at 'men', although it will not be a porn type channel, much more mainstream.

Ozz 02-Jun-2005 23:50

Watched coverage of NW200 which was good. 2 hours over 2 nights and good commentators (Steve Parrish for one).

Jewell 03-Jun-2005 09:44

yeah watched that as well.

annoying weather conditions.

fun race.......
