Stickers/Decals - Removal?

Simple question - how do I remove stickers/decals from plastic bodywork without damaging it or leaving a mark behind?
Cheers
Martin

A hairdryer or boiling water always worked for me... and patience ;)

also if they are original decals they will have been lacquered over... so not sure you can ... I wouldnt ....

Hairdryer and meths......the metha will clear up any stickyness left, or if it all goes wrong you can drink it:barfy:

Forgot to say - they're not the original stickers, not lacquered on... is boiling water ok on plastics?

dave996 23-May-2005 17:05

You'd be better off with the constant heat from a hairdryer.

Never tried boiling water, not sute I would.

I would be more concerned if motorcycle bodywork (which is fibreglass not plastic??) melted with some hot water.

I've used it and it was fine. Just need to continually fill the kettle, but the stickers come off easier than with a hairdryer... IMO

to take off loads or decals from the van we have, I used (sucessfully) a wallpaper stripper, of the hot steam variety.

I use a hairdryer and clean up the glue with Sticky Stuff remover from Kleaneasy - worked well on a spare biposto seat.

Thanks for the info guys n gals..

So, I get the missus' hairdryer and attack it with that... what happens then - what do I scrape it off with?

Just trying to establish how easy/difficult this is going to be and how effective - it's a sticker on a seat unit and very visible..

Get your fingernail underneath and pull it off very carefully keeping the heat on the sticker where you want it to release.

Either that or bring it down to me this afternoon and I'll di it.

Thanks - I'll give it a go over the weekend

Hairdryer works a treat with a bit of patience as has been said, be careful on the heat settings though - easy to burn your hands!

There is also the risk of being intercepted on the way to the garage/shed with the significant others hairdryer in hand so have your story ready :)

Cheers,

Phil

Martin,

My ST was coverd in stickers when I first got it - and they all came of with the afore mentioned hairdryer technique.

As said above - just be carefull not to let the panel get TOO hot :o

This should help a little:

http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/howto/stickerremoval/

WD-40 at the end is a nice touch to get rid of all the stickiness.

Mission accomplished, thanks to one and all for the advice and hairdryer tip
