DESMO DUE GEARING CHART

DESMO DUE GEARING CHART

What rpm are the speeds based on

If a 620 Six speed flat out under the required conditions could do 147mph on 15/36 gearing what would a 5 speed version likely pull, also would a 674 be able to obtain the same speed in the same conditions on the same gearing.
I assume my 583 would need to run 15/38 in the same conditions that allow a 620 six speed to run 15/36
If 15/36 is around 15mph per 1000rpm then 15/38 would be nearer 14mph per 1000rpm which would equate to the less powerfull 5 speed bikes being about 8mph down on topspeed.
can't see me passing many bigger cc bikes down the straights.
Best I hide the NOS under the seat for CC and Snet.

domski 24-May-2005 15:57

Sorry, the speeds are based on a 5 speed 620 gearbox - and were just for fun coz TP asked me for them :sniff:

The predicted speed does not allow for wind resistance etc. so I guesstimated on a 10% reduction (based on book speed of 115mph on stock gearing) which is shown as the corrected speed.

...but the speed side of it is all rubbish, coz you'd never pull 15/36 or whatever it is... at least not to 9,500 revs in top.

Hope that clears that up :D

paynep 24-May-2005 18:15

My bog standard 750ss was struggling to pull 15/37 last week, but was over-revving on 14/37...........so 14.5/37 is about right, I reckon!:D

domski 24-May-2005 19:10

I'm racing against crazy people!!!!! :o

...technically... when I stay on ;)

phoenix n max 24-May-2005 19:25

I don't get this 15 - 36/7 or 8 stuff
15/46 but 36 ???
what top speed does that give on a 583 ?
On 15/45 road gearing my monster would give a indicated top speed of 126mph so equate that down a bit for speedo error to around 120 and thats what my dynochart said too.
But if it was geared to 15/36 what would that do to the top speed ?
Can someone please explain that bit?

domski 24-May-2005 19:40

Unless you had a very very very very long hill to ride down, I doubt a 583 would even pull 15/36 gearing, it's just way too tall (in 5th gear).

If you did find a very very very very long hill to ride down, then you may see 140mph ish on that gearing.

Think of it like gears on a push bike, if you select the biggest sprocket on the front and smallest on the back, it's really hard to pedal, but once you get it wound up, you go quicker (and pedal less)

If you select the smallest front gear, and biggest rear, you pedal like mad and don't really get anywhere.

Hope that helps :D

Yeah - I think ! Thanks :)

AK 24-May-2005 22:18

FWIW, our bike (bogs std 583) was running 15/36 at Cadwell for the first DD round - seemed to suit for that twisty little track.

A little change for C/Coombe tho is in order

Wasn't it running a 46 rear??

AK 24-May-2005 22:32

no mate - we hadnt got one then, only the original heavy one that came with the bike - and had done loadsa miles:o

(and he wasnt allowed to nick mine!)

however, Al does now have 2 or 3 of heavy ones to muck about with..............

remember, racing on a budget here:P

domski 24-May-2005 22:35

How the hell did it pull 15/36 gearing???

I was sure Alan told Rich it was 46 :puzzled:

Oh well, it matters not. Andy flew!!

AK 24-May-2005 22:40

Al wanted a 46 mate, but we just made do, you see AK is sooo old he still uses wartime sayings.........

I thought he should have taken the huge one off his Lawson - blinking great thing it is - and a whopper of a chain, but he didnt think it would be quite right.... more suited for the quarter mile so I understand:o

So, what you reccommend for our snotter for CC then?

C:)

TP 24-May-2005 22:43

Standard monster gearing is 15/46, were you running standard Charlotte?

AK 24-May-2005 22:47

no, that was the prob - it had been changed at some point in the bikes life as a motorway commuter conveyance, for this dinky one (why we knew not) Its gorn in the bin of bits now tho - not sure what is on it at the moment, or even if there is one on it at all!:o

[EDIT] apology here: it went to cadwell with the 36 on it, and then it WAS changed to a 45, that AK had picked up the night before - sorry Dom, et al.....

Is everyone elses bike in one piece?:puzzled:

domski 24-May-2005 22:53

620 Monster is 15/46
620 Sport is 15/44

583 Monster >94 is 15/38
583 Monster >95-98 is 15/43
583 Monster >99-01 is 15/46

583 SS >94 is 15/36
583 SS >95-98 is 15/41
583 SS >99-01 is 15/46

...and that concludes the gear lesson for today :P

AK 24-May-2005 22:57

and thankyou Domski:P

C:saint:

TP 24-May-2005 22:57

Charlotte, I swapped my 15t front for a 14t this afternoon but that's as much as mine has been in bits. It's all good!

domski 24-May-2005 22:59

I reckon a previous owner must have fitted a Supersport C&S kit.

No wonder Andy was flying... according to my gearing chart he was doing 147mph down the straight :lol::lol:

See, I'm a detective as well

Blimey how badly do I need to get to CC :D

Oh, and our bike is still in bits too... well it has no front wheel or belly pan, but we're working on it (Louigi is, I'm doing bugger all)

:)

AK 24-May-2005 23:02

ours could fit into boxes at the mo:(

ok, well most of it.

Guys - want to pop over at the w/end to help me put it back together to suprise AK when he gets home in the early hours of Tues morning?:D

domski 24-May-2005 23:03

I feel a cunning plan coming on...

...does it have to fit together properly?

oh yes, thankyou so much for the kind offer.

I know where most of the bits go, so can supervise with torque wrench in hand:lol:

C:P

domski 24-May-2005 23:08

You word twister you

I'd love to come and help, but I have to watch WSB on TV and continue my training regime (ask Louigi) :o

I'm sure Alan LOVES playing with bikes anyway :D

AK 24-May-2005 23:10

He does, but how he can leave Mrs Snott the monster (NOT mme you cheeky git!) & go & work on the snakey R6 instead for a w/end beggars belief:o

oh, and you reckon over 140 mph? - be lucky if the bag of rust managed 70 downhill with a gale force wind behind her:lol:

Renthal just told me they don't make a 14.5 gearbox sproket for a Ducati - now what am I going to do?

Bugger!!

My advice for you is to run 15/36 - it's the next best thing! Trust me ;)

domski 25-May-2005 00:20

Otherwise I'll speak to the nice guys at Talon and get them to make a 'special' 18T front to go with your 36 ;)

Honestly, us DD'ers are sooooo nice to each other, makes you sick eh?
