They seem rather embarrased that thier anti fraud system didnt pick it up Anyway Bad luck over now (I Hope) |
I had this t'other day. £1k in two days. The bank gave the money back after five days. Going to start keeping cash under the bed..... |

Did they mention how it was done? I'm a bit strapped for cash after buying termi, filters, PCIII + trackday this month  Sorry. Hope you get your cash back soon. |

Dare we ask how these F*cking W*ankers got your debit card details? As a warning to the rest of us that is. |
same thing happened to me on monday...... |
The Bank havent told me if it was used on the Internet over the Phone or a Cloned card. So Im none the wiser |
|
it is the "card holder not present" transactions that got me. They say that someone could have just seen my card number and expiry and from there they can cah in. It was on loads of little transactions, like charging a pay as you go phone.......20 times in an hour!!!!!!! |
however, my bank spotted it, albeit because of a legit transaction, and they have refunded everything that I don't recognise. just waiting for a new card!!!! |
I warned you all about this a few months back. Wait for it....A Million pound a day!!! However its viewed as a faceless crime.............. by the Banks etc. Rule 1, never let your card out of your sight, ever!. It takes a micro second for someone to scam the info from it. However the most likely time your details will be scamed is at the cash point. Initially check around you, look for someone or two hanging around, or someone sitting in a car nearby fiddling with what looks like a lap top. When you go to the cash point look at the bit where you put your card in, it may look real, but give it a little tug before putting your card in. THis is the low tech stuff. Secondly, look above where the roof area of the cash point section is, the bit that overhangs the key pad area. Check there for any thing that looks like a strip with the eye of a camera in it. This is the more advanced scam where they have a bit of kit, reading in a car the microwaves your card emits as the genuine machine reads it. They need a camera link to watch you enter your pin, so when you do enter your pin, cover up your finger as you do it. The information contained on the magnetic strip is roughly two lines long, and easy to send in an email, add to a card the other end and away you go! |
:o:o:o:mad::mad::mad: Filthy scumbags.. Sorry to hear about your sh*tty time ... Kind of makes me realise that maybe the fact that I am ALWAYS overdrawn without a penny to my name ( there is always too much month left at the end of my wage packet..... ) and not owning any credit card is maybe not so bad after all ! I'd like to see those t*ssers clean me out !:lol::lol: |
Sorry to hear this....real bummer. I'm alright tho cos I've got naff all in my account nowadays...They'd have to rob my overderaft...:o Hope you all get it sorted.... |
It\'s the new mugging .. .. identy crime isn't violent but it's huge  |
and just as scary... One of our Practice Nurses went into a local shopping parade in her lunch hour in uniform and used her card in one of the machines..... She went back to work and at some point during the afternoon when she left her room some scumbag went in and stole her handbag and within 1 hour emptied her account out ( thankfully she only had about £80 in it ) using her PIN number..:o:o:o What frightened us most was the fact that she had been watched at the machine and then followed back to work ( a Doctors surgery ) and they had even seen what room she went into....:o Not hugely confidence inspiring ! |
I had the opposite happen. I used a credit card which I hadn't used for a while, to buy some new sofas and a cooker - quite a bit of money. The next day, I had a call from Bank of Scotland to confirm that I knew about the transactions. What freaked me out was the fact that it was an automated call! Definitely legit, as they never asked me to give any account number details, and said that if I wanted to speak to them I should call the number on the back of my card. Shame not all the banks seem to have got it right yet. I'd rather be asked like that every time, and lose the contents of my current account! Saz |
Such bad news Paul, I worry about it all the time hope they sort it soon.:(:( |

Yeah this happens to me too!...If it's outside your normal spending habits AND if I spend at the mobile phone shop I get a call from Barclays!... Now and again I might go into town if I have had a good month and spend a bit extra...If that happens I can expect a call from the bank on the same day!...Beats me why yours didn't do the same!? Sorry to hear such a crappy thing happened!...You must be gutted!:( |
:saint:Always shred documents,my mate was done for a fair amount by people going through his bins! :saint: |
I manage a small software company and our merchant accepts online credit card payments for our software, even with all the checks in place to help prevent fraud we recieve a great deal of fraudulent purchases that are charged back upto 6 months after the initial purchase for "card holder not present" this generaly means a card number has been used without the owners knowlage. While this is a pain in the ass for us as we have to pay around 10 dollars in charges for the funds to be returned to the card holders account, i often find myself wondering how many people actualy check their credit card statements for small amounts that have been deducted, over a year or so these can add up and not be so easy to pick up on. I checked my Tescos Card 2x days ago - business VAT return, but it;s partly 'cause there were only 3x transactions on the card that I really picked it up. €85 transaction in Denmark. Bank is sending me paperwork to complete. Hewlard Packard where to refund me £800 for a returned printer. Double checked today with their returns dept - correct details and account number - but not a sausage as yet. Returned printer was collected a month ago! Will keep an eye on this one. Tim |
My wife mislaid her debit card. Rang the bank to cancel the card. Gave all the usual details to a operative in India:o Waited a week and still no card so got back on the phone. Indian lady tells my wife the card has been sent to your local bank in Burnley. But we live in Birmingham. Sorry said the operative, we will get the Burnley branch to send it to your local branch. That was 3 weeks ago and still not replacment card |
I had £1400 Debited from my account on the 3rd of this month, first I knew about it was when I got a letter saying I was over my overdraft limit. After a couple of phone calls to various lloyds telephone numbers I was finally told they would send me some forms to fill in. 4 days later the forms arrive I sign to say I did not make a payment of £1400 to anyone and also signed I had never made a payment to the organisation stated. Still haven't heard anything, all the bank did when I got in touch with my branch was increase my overdraft limit, hey presto two more withdrawls from my acoount last tuesday, each for £15.99 to AOL who I have never delt with. I now have more forms coming and am currently without use of a debit card which is sitting in my wallet. I hope the bank gets it sorted soon as it causes no end of problems. |
