Most popular mods Well I know this has probably been posted before but can we have a run down of the most popular mods. I'm new to this website as I've finally acquired a dream - it's only taken me ten years but there you go. |
Are you including further rider skills or training? If not, start by reducing the gearing so it's more tractable in everyday use, get the suspension "tuned" to your bodyweight and riding style, then fit some Termi's followed by a lightweight flywheel and lighter wheels :biaggi: Alternatively, save up yer dosh and buy a more powerful model ;) |
14t sprocket on the front 180 rear tyre (probab have already if its a 748) obviously termi's open clutch cover slipper clutch if you do trackdays |

So long as you don't mind replacing clutch plates every couple of thousand miles ;) |
i've had mine in for at least 4k now never touched it and still seems fine. i do get the slipper working too! |
Hi Rob, In order of overall preference and value for money - 1. 14 tooth front sprocket - £15 2. Pirelli Diablo Corsas (rear 180) - great for road and track - up to £200 3. Overbore clutch slave cylinder - Casoli £80 4. Fit 4 - pad brake calipers - you will not believe the difference - £200+ 5. Slipper clutch for the track (ST4s plates to improve basket life) - from £400 6. Do something to let it make a proper noise. Anything from new system to coring the silencers. £0 to £1,000 plus 7. Lightweigt wheels - if your still feeling flush - £1,000 if new Don't forget crash protection - bungs, case armour etc. Spinoli |
Nobody mentioned suspension mods :puzzled::puzzled::puzzled: You not worried about the bike handling properly then? I'd get a shock and fork rebuild before buying exhaust, P4 calipers, £1000 wheels or a slipper clutch :o |
carbon fibre .. and some more carbon fibre .. and a little more carbon fibre, start with heel plates and go from there .. and a smattering of magnesium .... |
And - Huggerrrrrrr! |

Warning: Thread Hijack imminent. Re: First priority - having suspension work done. One of the things I was most happy to find when I got my first 996s was the high quality of the stock suspension compared to my previous blade and TL1000S (yes, yes, I know....... Likewise on my 998Bip, the stock Showa forks and Ohlins rear give a good range of effective adjustment and I wouldn't say that reworking of the components is a major priority. Using standard adjustments I have got it set up so that I can scuttle around the track at a fair old lick without getting seasick. That said, once my credit situation has recovered from the decimation it experienced last winter, I will probably be sending the forks off to K-Tech, to work their magic (they did my TL which really DID need their help). So to sum up, I still reckon my list of favourites is OK, but maybe some suspension work next. Anyway, Good Heavens Man, where's the bling in a tiny little K-Tech sticker. Yes, I can see where you're all coming from and I'm amazed by the response. I have been quite fortunate really as the bike is loaded with extras already - barnett clutch + open cover, marchesini wheels, termignonis, and lashings of carbon fibre. I just wondered what everybodies opinions were. I am going to get the seat recovered in black alcantara suede - remember seeing three 916's parked up at Donington in the mid 90's and to say they looked exquisite would be an understatement. Also thinking of helibars to give it a bit more everyday usability, not decided yet. Does any firm make slightly longer mirror housings to improve the rearward view, I generally like to know if there are any other vehicles coming up fast. The standard mirrors look nice but by the time you see anything in them it would be too late. |
Alcantara U2U me if you want your seat covering in alcantara ive done a few peoples bikes on the board, £25 posted back to you! Not the clearest of pics but... |
Panting it the right colour  |
