Castle Combe noise regs.... What are the race noise regs for CC? I received my race paperwork yesterday and it stated that a noise test must be passed. I assume that this is not as stringent as the 105db for the recent trackday, but does anyone know what it is? Ta muchly Tim |
According to the ACU handbook (page 172)... Noise is limited to 105db @ 5,500 revs!! |
105 IT IS AND THEY ARE VERY STRICT. BUT THAT IS THE SAME LEVEL AS FOR THE DESMODUE RACES ANYWAY [Edited on 27-5-2005 by multi600] |
I might be in trouble then - i was on the limit of 105db for the recent trackday, but I thought that would have been for a "quiet day". I assumed that they had a few race days there that would have been "full noise" days. Oh well, best get the drill and baffles out!! Tim |
At the end of the recent Fowlers trackday I asked the CC organiser about the noise regs for the race meeting, and his answer was that it is under ACU control not theirs, so my understanding is that if we were ok at Cadwell we should be ok at Combe.................................:puzzled: |

Ahh - nice one, I was tested at Cadwell and no one complained, so i assume all is OK - I'll be bringing my drill and baffles just in case. ;) Tim |
Hmmmm! Would it help if i put some cotton wool in the testers ears when they start bleeding :o |

Hmmmm - they've got on of them there techno fangled digical fingies that can't be deafened I reckon. Tim |
I would have a back up plan just in case Tim. I suspect Castle Combe are more fastidious than other circuits because of their PR problems. My car failed CC noise check on a recent track day. |

Yep - I'll take the baffles and the drill just in case!! Thanks |
Most of the DD bikes were tested at Cadwell and were giving readings of arround 90db - yet I understand that people at a recent track day at CC were tested at close to 105db. Would appear there are noise tests and there are noise tests! Compared to many race bikes the DD machines are comparatively quiet so I guess it's fingers crossed (and pack a few brillo pads). |

Fair point Ian, I wonder if the CC testing is less tolerant than other places? I didn't actually get to see the reading on the digical fingy. But those watching did say that mine was louder than most out there. Tim |
I have been to Castle Combe several times either racing myself or helping mates that are racing. At CC they only get 3 or 4 Noisey days for running the bikes and all are reserved for racedays, where the ACU limits apply, in our case 105dB at 5500rpm, measured at 45 degrees to the exhaust outlet at a distance of 50cm. CC own trackday test are usually measured differnt to this very often in line with the exhaust outlet or at higher revs. I'm not worrying about mine, both my TL and 916 were louder and I never had a problem with them on race day. |

I actually thought yours was fairly quiet to be honest :o Maybe I need an ear test :puzzled: |

Well I was surprised that it measured 105db on their equipment, but they were asking me to hold the revs at 7K - they must've thought she was a rice burner!!! ;) |
The bit that worries me is on the regs that have just come : ''Any machine which fails the test will not be permitted to race'' Does that mean I won't be able to go away - fit db killers - then go back to test again ? Those of us without rev counters - how they gonna know what revs ? |

Nah - you'll get the chance to fit baffles and then retest if it fails. Tim |
