Can a Bip seat be easily fitted to a 749R/999R? I managed to fit a Bip seat to my old 996R, but can this be easily achieved on a 749R or 999R. Don't ask me why I want to do it as I take offence easily ;) - but is it a matter of just switching the subframe and seat unit (obviously)? Or are there other considerations for this? movement of components etc, etc..... Anyone done this? Ta muchly Tim |
:puzzled: |
I think so Tim. But there might be an issue with the baby R. Its fuel tank is larger and I'm not certain if this presents a problem or not. |
Subframe and all seatbase bits should swap over ok but remember "R" wheels would not be homologated for biposto use being lighter forged alloy |
Arn't the forged lighter wheels stronger than cast wheels? |

Probably but look at how thin the spokes are and they list those wheels in the performance catalogue as mono use only:rolleye: |

Yeh I know - I did say don't ask me why!!! But in the spirit of openess - I need a road bike that I can occasionally take Mrs Rattler out for a spin on. She won't like it and I can quickly change it back, but I need the capability nonetheless! And it would be a trifle churlish just to keep the ZX10R for such activities. So as I endeavour to procure a new Ducati I need to be cognisant of such!!! ;) Tim:frog: |

Right, I'll get the misses on a diet - that should go down well!!! ;) :) |
How about a 749/999R combo:lol: Bolds your probably right, I've never looked closely at the differences before |
You looking at a 999r ? Go on its only me your telling??? |

I'm looking, i'm looking!! I must say that I'm favouring the 749R over the 999R at the mo, they just seem a bit more "special" to me. But I might just wait for the road Desmosedidicihichechithingy to come out!!!! Now I don't reckon you'll get a Bip seat on that!!!!!! ;) |
Tim.... have got a black 999 Bip subframe if you need one :D |
Quote:
Thanks Dave - I just need to get the bike first !!!! :) |
Could be arranged;) |
I knew I knew I knew... Does this mean the king (996R) is dead?:D |
Tim,its a piece of pee to change subframes and seat units. There are no other components to change over during the conversion. The exhaust and electrics all stay where they are. With practice it can be done in around 30-40 mins. |
Long live the King! |

I think youll be looking at ballpark £11,000 for an 04 749r. I think you could get an 03 999r for around there and probably with the 57mm and cpu fitted. another £3-4000 and you could be in 04 999r territory Dont know if i like the idea of a) on the road with it, and b) pillion stuff, just my thoughts. |
Stiffer rear spring. |

I seiously think you would crave for more power than a 749. Im not saying any of us can really use the potential to full, but its nice to have it there. Now if some say oh buy the engine upgrade, quite frankly it will be cheaper, more reliable etc to have had the 999. Perhaps with your bp issues, 999s? Good price, still top power, etc, and i know where there is a set of lightweight wheels going, for your mono track aspirations............... |
Should ring riders of bristol they have load of new model to get rid off going for silly money. and i mean low prices. |

Andy, who's selling the wheels and how much (please!)? :D |
I cannot see a problem with the wheels ( or the shock ), is it not just the manufactures/Ducati covering their backs just in case of failure. If someone is 19 stone ( ! ) riding solo what is the difference if the rider is 11 stone and the pillion 8 stone ? I am sort of tempted to put a biposto seat unit on my R beacause my wife is 'considering' going back on the bike again ( she said she would never go back on when we had our two young kids, just in case ) |

They are 999r wheels, and .....its Rob at Riverside, you know him dont you? |

i thought the 749r is better for using on a track ?? /ian |

Not on its side though Ian! |

Have you got a number for him mate? Do you know how much they're going for? |
Sorry mate ive got you mixed up with someone else. Yeah ill give you the number on u2u |
The wheels on 749R's and 999R's are identical and are NOT suitable for carrying a pillion , this was stated by Ducati UK in an MCN roadtest |

Yea but, no but - they also state that Magnesium wheels shouldn't be used for the road, but you can!! Isn't this just some potential legal disclaimer against any sort of legal action should you get a couple of elephants going Biposto ? Tim |
Tim may the torque be with you, but you won't find it on a 749R:) |
from the manual with the forged wheels max total weight 390 kg dry weight 193 kg fluids 10 kg fuel 20 kg extra for bip 10 kg this leaves 157 kg which is about 24.5 stone, so if you and your other half are less than that you should be fine. however i am not an engineer |
