BOSTROM 998 ON MY QUEST FOR A NEW BIKE I`VE FOUND A 2002 BOSTROM THATS BEEN RE POSSESED ...£8500 NOW THE CRUNCH....BIKE AND V5 ONLY NO GOODIES LIKE STAND ETC OR WORSE OF ALL NO SERVICE BOOK,,,,,,,,:puzzled: SOUNDS A GOOD DEAL COMPANY ONLY HAD IT YESTERDAY AND SAID BIKE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AS YOU WOULD EXPECT. I`M IN A QUANDRY GIVE US ADVICE OR A KICK UP THE ASS,;) |
you should be able to find out from Ducati if its been serviced at a main dealer as the records are sent back to Ducati (at least I think they are). Lily has a Bostrom, it was JPM's. So might be worth having a word about what spec it should be. shouldn't you be catching a ferry;) |
catching ferry in the morning so need as much info as soon as possible. i was hoping jpm will reply but its the issue of service history and being a repo bike that concerns me.. got a cheque from insurance on the way and i want to spend it.:sing: |
Anyway, if it's so cheap why not just get it serviced straight away? Jobs a good 'un! If it's been abused previously you should be able to tell by looking at it anyway :) |
Ian, What do you want to know? The Bostrom should come with a stand (blue), cover and a metal plaque in a blue box as part of the package, which I guess will be missing. Obvious differences are blue frame, blue wheels, Ohlins front and rear and damper, and plaque on the yokes with Bostrom 998S x/155 Price wise, well I'd say a good one from a dealers with service history will be anywhere between 10-12K for a 2002 plate dependent on mileage, so 8.5K doesn't sound bad I guess first thing I'd do would be to get it fully serviced and checked over by someone good though. As for a bike still the best bike I've owned once set up, although I expect the 999R to take that mantle shortly as the miles pour on. What else do you want to know? |
its all about history and worry with it being a repo i know its a cracking bike which deserves to have a good home.. got plaque on headstock all standard body work correct wheels and frame so all looks well from that point.. may have to get up early tom to go and have a look before going to iom. |
Where is it Ian? If it's between you and me and you need a second opinion I'll be more than willing to pop along if needed. My only concern would be resale down the line I guess because of it's history take that into consideration and base a decision on that |
bike is in mp motorcycles bradford . just got reg number si i`m about to e mail ducati uk to see if its got official history.. |
The stand is only the box standard stand just painted the same blue as the frame, so you could get a standard one off Ebay and get it painted I guess. The cover is unique to the Bostrom red/white/blue with 155 and his signature on also, but I would imagine you could order that from Ducati, you can order the graphics kit so I guess the cover should be available also. As for the plaque and box, well I don't know about that one, each one is unique and engraved with Engine/frame number and corresponding number on the yokes. Also should have blue grips, forgot that one |
E MAIL GONE TO DUCATI UK WAITING FOR A REPLY LIKE A KID ON XMAS EVE.:sing: :bouncy: |
DONT SUPPOSE ANYONE HAPPENS TO BE IN BRADFORD TODAY WITH AN HOUR TO SPARE..???????????????????/ COUPLE OF VIRTUAL DRINKS IN IT AND A ENORMOUS THANKS FROM ME |
If you can, get the last owners name and address from the V5 and see if you can get their number to give them a ring. I've often done this to get previous history or ask questions about used bikes I've bought, and most owners are more than happy to talk about them - plus, not owning the bike anymore or having a vested interest, they are normally more honest about any damage or work thats been done on it. It could well be they had it on finance and lost their job or something, rather than them being some dodgy geezer. Give em a call and see if they still have the accessories, and if they want to sell them to you - if they are skint they may jump at the chance - also ask if you can buy all the paperwork and history from them they've got. I'd imagine if it was a repo, the bailiffs would just take the bike as is with the V5 and wouldnt know about the other parts, and I doubt the owner was in much of a mood for being helpful and digging out all the other paperwork for them at the time ! For 8.5K sounds pretty good unless its been really abused, spend even another £1K get a complete service and any odds and sods that need doing and you've still got a cheap bike. |
Would be interested to hear how you got on with bike, still reckon mine's the best balanced Ducati I've ever had......BTW, JPM, what's that you were saying about a red white and blue cover? Don't ever remember mine having one and bought it brand new.....? |

Yep, you get a cover red/white/blue with Ben's signature embossed and 155 in large letters also, comes in a seperate bag |

I paid MP a visit a while ago. Some very serious machinery for sale. The premises lack a certain je ne sais qui. Ray. |
Pictures of my seat unit from all angles..........is anyone else reading this thinking what I'm thinking? |

Well I've got a lovely seat unit (!) but don't want it photographed from ALL angles..... |
If you havent brought it I know of another with ALL the extras that is for sale for £8000 !!! Bloody good price. Its not mine and I am not making anything from it |
I thought the bostrom was one of the most ugly, non representative paint jobs ever produced. It wasnt any where like the l and m job he really had. I remember they were the last to go out of the shops, whereas the bayliss rep was snapped up. As for blue frame and wheels.............. :o |
dear oh dear oh dear i`ve decided not to pursue the bostrom after ducati said it had no history or the reg number. now i`ve done a darth vader stepped over to the dark side and gone and bought a zx10r in black, what a bike brill ride with lots of feedback. |

Andy, I think you're missing the point of the Bostrom as it was based on his lid, I'm guessing they couldn't do a race rep as it was tobacco sponsorship at the end of the day? Might not be to everyone's taste, but you could buy any red duke and infostrada it in 10 minutes, oh look a Bayliss Rep! Whereas the Bostrom, blue frame, wheels, grips, seat pad, let alone the graphics! Don't forget there were more Bayliss Reps than Bostroms to boot, so from a rariety point of view I know which one I went for! lol!!! |
You're right on the paintwork JP. Andy - the Bostrom and the Bayliss were sold in different ways. The Bayliss was only offered on the internet initially with 300 units but production tooled up for 500. The Bostrom was produced in 3 lots of 155 (his race number) - one set with the 123bhp engine but more carbon-fibre went to USA, the remaining two sets with full power engines but less carbon went to Europe and the rest of the world - so the total number of both bikes is very similar at about 470. The reason the USA got the standard Testastretta (in both bikes) was because the S engine couldn't meet their emmission tests. |
I vote that Ian Johnson be castrated and thrown out of the club for going over to the dark side!!! |
... you mean done a Rattler? He'll be back ... |
i`ll be back !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!! |
