525 Chain Wanted

Anyone got a spare out there or know where I can get one?

Cheers chaps.

skidlids 21-Feb-2013 22:32

Not often you get a 525 chain mentioned in the DD section, you running one on Badger or is it for something else

Campo 22-Feb-2013 00:05

I need a new chain too for my ss can anyone recommend one? What do u tend to use?

skidlids 22-Feb-2013 00:14

I have a Regina 520 chain on my DD bike at the moment

badgerpilot 22-Feb-2013 00:17

Yeh it's for Badger Kev, 525 stamped on my front sprocket.

Sounds dumb but what the difference to a 520?

Campo 22-Feb-2013 00:25

Thanks skids really helpful as usual. thinking about it I'm sure through the rust on my chain it says Regina.

skidlids 22-Feb-2013 01:02

the difference is 1/16th of an inch
a 520 chain is 5/8" by 2/8"
a 525 chain is 5/8" by 2.5/8" (5/16")

another common size is a 530 chain
a 530 chain is 5/8" by 3/8"

So the chain pitch is the same for all 3 but the sprocket width is different
520s are often chosen for racing as the narrower chain and sprockets are lighter, the 520 is standard fitment for the DD bikes where as 525 chain and sprockets are usually found on the 748/916/996 etc

Not sure if any bikes these days use the 630 chain that my old Kwak Z1000 used and my Yam R6 cam with a 532 chain as standard which shares the same dimensions as a 530 chain but with bigger diameter rollers.

badgerpilot 22-Feb-2013 01:23

As ever, thank you sir!

My Phil Read Replica, (750 F2 Honda) has a 630 chain as std. Bit over the top me thinks.

Always ran 520, normally bought a motox one as cheaper, just extra libe needed, never worried about split link either. About £30

Campo 22-Feb-2013 20:31

Yeah I saw the moto x ones are a lot cheaper I just assumed they weren't any good for 600cc bikes . By the way what is a libe?

You ever seen the strain put on a chain by a big Motocrosser when landing off a table top with the throttle open

Libe must be the Italian version of Lube specially for Ducati owners :)

Cheer Neil, I was afraid this thread may have gotten too serious.

DID 520 chain

I have "in stock" a brand new boxed high quality DID 520 VX2 chain. These are 100 links long and will fit 600SS or 600M.

Retail is £60 (it is marked up as such), anyone's for £40 plus postage. I can bring it to the Snetterton winter rally.

This is surplus for me as the 620 I now have has a ST4 swinging-arm which is longer.

Ian it might not be long enough for the Later 1999-2001 M600 as they ran the bigger sprockets and a 102 Link chain
