Ventura Luggage How do After months of moans by tarty bit (she carries all the luggage) I've brought a ventura system for my 2002 998 Bip. The problem is the bolts that fasten the L brackets to the rear cross member are hitting the inside of the seat unit on both sides, have tried button heads still hit, have emailed Ventura it's the first time they've heard of this. Has anybody else had this prob? |
Have you got a picture?? |
Have now removed all the spacing washers the seat just misses but i'm out on centers for the rack about 8mm |
here's another |
Its different to mine Will post pictures tomorrow Mike |
Great name!! Cant help but welcome aboard.... |
Cheers Mike could u give me part no if poss |
Just looked at mine and they have also rubbed inside the seat. My brackets are not bent though |
Is the cross member keyed, in that you could fit it either way round but it would give you different heights? Can't remember from when I fitted mine, but you might have the cross member upside down so it sits too high... |
Do you feature in Viz with that name? Ventura do 2 different fitting kits for the alloy monoposto rear end and the steel framed bip rear end which yours must be if your taking a passenger. Might be worth checking. JUST CHECKED VENTURA CATALOGUE D013/B FITS ALL 998 BIP/MONO ALLOY AND STEEL FRAMES. WHEREAS D006/B FITS ONLY 998R & 998S ALLOY SUBFRAMES. Also can't tell from the photo but check the u shaped bracket isn't fitted upside down, but don't think it is. On mine, which is alloy mono kit the bolts clear the inner side of the seat but the L brackets just touch the bottom side of the seat unit so i always wrap some gaffa tape around the bracket at the contact point. same on my mates bike as well as it is a very tight fit. If you slacken all of the the bolts off a bit where the L brackets fit, and where the U bracket fits to the rear subframe you can get a little bit of play to move the brackets into the right position. The crucial one is getting the U braclet located in the right place as this governs how the L brackets sit. We're only talking a few mill of play here but it does make a difference. Hope that makes sense. If you're anywhere near Manchester you can check out how mine is fitted. Good luck. [Edited on 8-6-2005 by BDG] |
Looks like this |

This second picture shows exactly the same mark where my seat unit also rubs on the L bracket. |
Having taken the pictures I have now discovered that my Ventura swet doesn't fit with my new arrow cans:barfy: The Arrow cans are E marked officer with removeable baffles, they are also slighly longer than Termi's. I will now find a fabricator before Donnington  B*****ks |
I don't think you can fit the central bracket the wrong way around, as it just won't fit. My side brackets also have straight drop brackets, the same as M1keyp's, but the seat unit does not rub (single seat unit on a steel subframe). |
Thanks chaps the cross member only fits one way it's not possible to fit it any other way but the threaded lugs point upwards? if they pointed down it would probably miss and it would cure the L brackets rubbing the outside but i have checked with Ventura in New Zealand and they assure me its correct. They've done the crossmember this way since they first did the 916 Think i'll try to get my supplier to send me the one for the alloy subframe but should we have to file holes, bend brackets on a bit of kit thats sposed to be the ********??? Once again chaps CHEERS for the info maybe one day i'll buy summit that actually fits the thing |
make bl**dy sure you tighten up the brackets the system sits on properly. I know it's obvious but on a trip to the alps two weeks ago a mates luggage flew into his head (from behind) and then bounced off a 200 ft drop. Luckily we got to it but gave him a shock and covered his clothes in whatever the hell it was that burst in his luggage!!!!! |
I had this problem with my 998 bip. Exactly the same thing. I changed the bolts for countersunk ones and countersunk the bracket accordingly. No problems after that. Kev |
I have the alloy frame kit and have the same trouble, managed to get the L brackets away from the outside, but the bolt heads do still run the inner side, Couter sunk bolt heads sound the best solution. |
Just one other thing. The cross member mounts to the rubber bung type nuts (don't know what are really called) can pull through causing the pack rack to scratch the seat unit (trust me I know) :( The way around the problem, large washer and nyloc nuts along with a low profile cap head nut mounted from underneath. :sing: |
try some washers between the latch plate that bolts to the seat unit, this lifts the seat unit slightly and gives a little more clearance. |
