3-2-1 Class Divide?

So then, seeing as nobody can agree on this.

Which way do you think the Desmo Due series should go in 2006?

1 championship for all machines (current series)

2 championships - 583 class and a 675/620 class

3 championships - 583 class, 675 class and a 620 class

So the first 675 may finish 7th overall, but will actually score maximum points in their championship for a win.

AK 08-Jun-2005 20:49

Option 2 or 3

Ak is looking at 2 options at the moment:

does he stay BB for the rest of the season, and then go back to 583 next year - for him to have a go in his 50th year?

or, does he keep on trying to develop the bb as it is, spending more time & money on it?

another option is to just say ?? hp max limit - but that could stop new entries coming in - after all it was set up to be a budget series (Skids - we are now over our budget)

One thing Alan doesnt want tho, is to be told only 2 classes next year, not any mods at all - if he has been allowed to spent dosh on R & D work this season.

This needs to be addressed sooner rather than later, as I am sure we are not the only ones looking to do a bit more:puzzled:

AK asks if there could be a meeting by/at Donnington (pref at Snottyton), to confirm the info for next season, regarding machines & hp etc.

Chris - what do you & the MT think?

Sorry Ian - this ought to be addressed sooner than later methinks

Just my half p worth - and I dont even race:sniff:

dickieducati 08-Jun-2005 22:11

i voted for 1 championship. freedom to choose your weapon of choice.

domski 08-Jun-2005 22:18

I don't think you're wrong Dickie.

It really has to be 1 or 3... just can't see 2 ever working.

Folks

As I have already told a number of people on the phone and in person, the rules for this year are published and you have to live with them.

The race committee plan to sit down in advance of the Brands event and think about any modifications that might be made to the rules for 2006. Then offering time for discussion at that meeing with the current riders, before the last round at Cadwell.

Personally I tend towards the keep the rules tight so that there is limited modification allowed, this will keep costs down and place the importance on rider ability.

Right - the decision has been made.

Can we all move on from this now and concentrate on riding?

butch890 10-Jun-2005 19:52

Spot on Tony!!!

psychlist 10-Jun-2005 22:41

Hang on a minute!!!!!!!!!!!

If you (and I mean TP and CB speficially) read the first post properly you'd see that the question was raised about what we'd LIKE to see happening in 2006!! Nobody is questioning the rules as they are for this year and I'll probably stick with it through next year anyway cos I enjoyed being on track at CC so much!

BUT if we are "stuck with" a single championship next year then those of us that bought (late model) 583's having been led to believe that a big bore kit (which, since buying my '99 583, I now understand isn't available for my bike) would make them competitive with a 620, will either have to be content with rumbling around at the back of the field or sell it (probably at a loss) to get a 620 or earlier 583 so we can BB it!? This may be a CHEAP way of getting DSC members onto the race track but who'd want to do it just to make up numbers?

TP 10-Jun-2005 22:51

I see your point Paul, but people ARE questioning the rules for this year and there is a lot of complaining going on. Whether it's hidden in thinly veiled posts or spoken outright off the message board. I'm not accusing anyone specifically before I get flamed or my u2u inbox starts rapidly filling up .... again ....

domski 10-Jun-2005 22:56

My point exactly! Thanks Paul.

Like Phoenix said in another thread, she wants to stick with the 583 (and why not!) "I'd just like to say that if they run a 583 class next year then i'd race next year. I'm unlikely to if it remains the same"

It's impractical to suggest everyone sell their 583's or 675's if they want to be more competitive. In any case, if they could have gone down the 620 route, they would have. Its not about being in the same boat as everyone else, or having the information that suggested you'd need to spend £1500+ on top of a 583 to make it compete with a 620.

The series is great with the diverse field, and it would take nothing to acknowledge this in 2006

It also means that nobody is excluded due to the size of their wallet. Every machine has a Championship to race for.

More points for everyone.

No-one being upset coz their 675 isn't as fast as a 620.

It's good for EVERYONE!!!

I don't think they are anymore.

I think it's settled down now and everyone knows the score.

I think it's fair to say that some people were a little dissapointed initially, but everyone is getting on with now - and doing very well.

I also think it's good to discuss possible improvements to the series now, rather than in September or whatever.

It hurts no-one, and nobody is disputing what a great series has been created.

:)

Tonio600 10-Jun-2005 23:46

In France we had the "Coupe Ducati".
Everybody rode the same bike (was the 620 Sport), and minimal modifications allowed.

Maybe the futur of the DD series could be 2 standings (583 and 620) because I don't think there may be enough riders to run 3 classes (with the BB). In this case, people would just have to sell their BB on ebay and to play with their 583 :D

Anyway, THE DD SERIES ARE GREAT. They're powered by passion, for people powered by passion.
It may change or not for next year, I will be in.

phoenix n max 10-Jun-2005 23:50

Have to agree with Tonio in that the series is great. I run in it 'because' i believed it was a class I could race my bike in.
I'm never gonna be the next Rossi - but it gave me a chance to do what I wanted to do and race my 583 Ducati on the track :)

Of course Lin, I wanted to say "the DD series IS great". :D

(anyway I don't understand why "series" is not a plural as there is an "S" at the end...)

Had a long chat with Chris & Ian yesterday about the rules.

Any chance I could shape some 600 fairings mod the exhaust and run my 999R in the series.

Do you think anyone would notice :D
