HAYFEVER !

Does any one else in the club suffer from hayfever ? If so how do you deal with it through the summer when you want to go for a ride ? Some days my eyes itch so much I cant go out on the bike.

Just wondering because I've woke this morning with a waterfall for a nose. Im already taking the piriton tablets to try and control it.

thats because you rode home in the dark with a black visor so had to leave it open :)

I used to take Triludan with good effect, but some silly fokker took it with the wrong medication and died, so the government decided I need protecting and banned it.

Now I can't find anything that works all round, so I have to take seperate eye drops... Opticrom works very well and one bottle last all season.

 Being a country boy, oooh ar,most yolkles round here swear by a spoonful of local (to you) honey everyday,or a small amount of vaseline rubbed into the nostrils! If anyone tries the latter, let me know if it works!

I suffer quite badly too so my regime is to first thing in morning, or just before a ride is do dunk head in really, really cold water. Then I take a tablet called Telfast 180. This stops the nose running and the constant sneezing. For my eyes I simply use Optrex drops. I also try to carry a nazel spray like rhinocourt. While riding I am one of those who like the visor open - not a good idea, so I wear wrap around Skiing sunglasses as they fit quite snuggly. I still get itchy and watery eyes but it's not as bad as when I don't do the above. Keep your visor down and wear sunglasses too is the best, if you can resist opening you visor! Hope that helps!

Check out a natural product called Yamoa, look it up on the web.
I was sceptical when I read about it in the paper but was desperate enough to give it a go.
It has knocked back my symptons massively. So far this year I have not had to use any other medication.

jobr 11-Jun-2005 13:58

Ask the doctor for Clarityn as good as Triludan used to be.
Optrex for the eyes.

I get bad asthma and hayfever and the above helps. Prititon and things like that don't seem to do much good.

PB 11-Jun-2005 14:54

Agree with jobr:

Clarityn & Optrex

I have also been told that it is best to eat a little local honey every day: But to be effective one needs to build up resistance over a number of months: Therefore start eating the honey in the winter, or all year round. I always forget until my hayfever starts....

Ps I'll look up Yamoa, sounds interesting...

For Yamoa, try:

I suffer from (severe) hayfever and all year round asthma...(nebulizer the works...sigh!)
Hayfever cure is a clever little nasal spray called Flixonase...I think it can only be prescribed in the dosage I have but can be bought over the counter in a smaller dosage.
Works only when taken EVERY day through the hayfever season but I wouldn't be without it. I actually panic if I run too low and have to go a day whilst waiting for the prescription, because I know that the effects of the hayfever bring with it severe asthma attacks:(

I have tried Triludan, piriton, piroton forte, benalyn allergy, optrex, the honey thing and various other stuff. Ive been taking this for about 4 years and is the only thing that has ever really worked.

Seasonal asthma for me for the last four years.
First attack I had I was in the bathroom thinking this is it, death through lack of breath.
Drove me self to hospital and told them I was dying they told me to blow in to the tube thing and said you should be dead already. They stuck me on the neb which was nice. They gave me one of the tubes and said if it gets to hear on the scale, come strait in. I get on the discs at the beginning of May and touchwood no more attacks.
Some days, especially the stormy humid type days that we seem to get so much of, are the worst. Just no air not nice.

:o

yea ive got mild asthma, nothing like the nebulizer stuff tho, 1 of the worst feelings in the world having no breath, something that everyone takes for granted i think. Such a simple thing.

I thought I had a chest infection or something, couldn’t believe it when they told me it was asthma.
Glad it’s all sorted out now.

Its fast way to give up smoking Ill gives it that.

I was going out in to the garden tacking deep breaths trying to get some air in me lungs, just making it worse, Scary stuff.

Try the herbal remedy Luffa Complex. I used to suffer terribly with hayfever and read an article in the Daily Mail about Luffa Complex. I tried it about 5 years ago during the season and have not suffered since.
